Interprofessional Education Activities And New Practitioner Competence: Implications For Practice In Nutrition And Dietetics Education, Stephanie N. Petrosky Jan 2022

Interprofessional Education Activities And New Practitioner Competence: Implications For Practice In Nutrition And Dietetics Education, Stephanie N. Petrosky

UNF Graduate Theses and Dissertations

Interprofessional education (IPE) and interprofessional collaborative practice (IPCP) are associated with improved perception, values, attitudes towards collaborative practice, and therefore benefits patients, practitioners, and health care systems. Notable organizations have long promoted standardized guidelines for best practices in interdisciplinary team-based learning to improve patient safety and health outcomes. The state of IPE in nutrition and dietetics practice was recently addressed by the Nutrition and Dietetic Educators and Preceptors (NDEP) practice group of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics. The authors generated a call to action to engage in IPCP while pushing the boundaries of leadership in teaching, research, and practice. …

Health Care Capacity Surge Strategies, Jennifer L. Wenhold Dec 2021

Health Care Capacity Surge Strategies, Jennifer L. Wenhold

Florida Public Health Review

While streamlining emergency powers might offer some advantages, recent events demonstrate how Florida’s Department of Health worked collaboratively to address the Novel Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic. As Florida began experiencing a need for increased health care capacity, Division of Medical Quality Assurance (MQA) officials reviewed health care practitioners’ licensing and regulatory framework to identify mitigation strategies to boost staffing of front-line responders where needed. Florida officials responded quickly to the spread of COVID-19 and adopted health care workforce strategies that were grouped into three categories: (1) those involving licensed practitioners, (2) those involving soon-to-be licensed practitioners, and (3) those …

The Nutrition Care Process In Diabetes Medical Nutrition Therapy, Casey R. Colin Jan 2021

The Nutrition Care Process In Diabetes Medical Nutrition Therapy, Casey R. Colin

UNF Graduate Theses and Dissertations

The purpose of this study was to examine documentation quality and outcomes in a sample (n = 564 patient cases) of Diabetes Registry data from ANDHII, and to determine the validity and reliability of a revised NCP quality audit tool. RDNs have struggled to objectively demonstrate the value of MNT, which has limited MNT reimbursement and RDN recognition amongst allied healthcare providers. Development of a standardized process (the NCP), standardized language (the NCPT), and ANDHII have provided a means through which RDNs can improve MNT documentation and capture outcomes data, but gaps in adequate utilization exist. The most common …

Telehealth: Advances In Alternative Payment Models, Mei Zhao, Hanadi Hamadi, D Rob Haley, Jing Xu, Cynthia White-Williams, Sinyoung Park Jan 2020

Telehealth: Advances In Alternative Payment Models, Mei Zhao, Hanadi Hamadi, D Rob Haley, Jing Xu, Cynthia White-Williams, Sinyoung Park

Department of Health Administration Faculty Publications

Introduction

Previous studies indicated that telehealth services may improve hospital performance. However, the extent to which these telehealth provisions would improve hospital total performance score under the hospital value-based purchasing (HVBP) programme is not clear. The aim of this study is to examine the association between telehealth provision and hospital performance.

Methods

We performed a retrospective analysis of the association between the provision of telehealth services and 2699 hospital’s total performance score (TPS) on the 2018 HVBP programme and its four domains. Multivariate regression models were used to analyse TPS and hospital performance on each domain. Telehealth services offered by …

Do Physician-Based Or Hospital-Based Provider Service Networks Better Control Medicaid Expenditures?, Sinyoung Park, Jeffrey S. Harman, Allison G. Hall, R Paul Duncan Jan 2016

Do Physician-Based Or Hospital-Based Provider Service Networks Better Control Medicaid Expenditures?, Sinyoung Park, Jeffrey S. Harman, Allison G. Hall, R Paul Duncan

Department of Health Administration Faculty Publications

In a recent demonstration project, Florida Medicaid enrollees were required to pick a managed care plan that was either a Health Maintenance Organization (HMO) or a Provider Service Network (PSN). PSNs are a form of managed care very similar to Accountable Care Organizations (ACOs) that provides health care services directly through a provider or network of organizations to a defined population without a “middle man” such as a third party insurance company and health plan. There are two types of PSNs: Physician-based PSNs and Healthcare system-based PSNs. Physician-based PSNs are created and controlled by physicians groups. Healthcare system-based PSNs are …

Culture Change And Quality Of Life In Elderly Persons Living In Long Term Care, Carol S. Jones Jan 2010

Culture Change And Quality Of Life In Elderly Persons Living In Long Term Care, Carol S. Jones

UNF Graduate Theses and Dissertations

Quality of life in long term care (LTC) is a concern for many stakeholders. The elders who are living in LTC facilities, their families, the staff, and government and policy makers are all interested in providing quality care and quality of life to those persons living within the facility. Culture change is one way for LTC facilities to begin to give decision making to the residents, and to increase quality of life of these elders. There are different culture change models that embrace the concept of person-centered care. No matter which model is chosen, the essence of the change is …

Perceptions About The Impact Of Global Medical Travel On Poorer Populations In India, Blair Gifford, Sinyoung Park, Sharmila Anand Jan 2009

Perceptions About The Impact Of Global Medical Travel On Poorer Populations In India, Blair Gifford, Sinyoung Park, Sharmila Anand

Department of Health Administration Faculty Publications

There is anecdotal evidence that the increasing focus on global medical travel health services for foreigners in India is likely to exacerbate the different levels of access to health services between India’s wealthy and poor populations. However, surveyed physicians (n=177) at three hospitals in New Delhi indicated positive attitudes to global medical travel, especially in regards to global medical travel’s effects on poorer populations. Overall, these results appear to be the result of respondents’ support of the economic development, new medical technologies, and increased medical training that comes from the health infrastructure investments needed to attract foreign patients.

The Effect Of Moral Distress On Nursing Retention In The Acute Care Setting, Cynthia L. Cummings

Credit Scoring In A Hospital Setting, Robert M. Frohlich Jr. Jan 1997

Credit Scoring In A Hospital Setting, Robert M. Frohlich Jr.

UNF Graduate Theses and Dissertations

This is a study of the relationship between consumer credit scoring and the resolution of a patient's account for hospital services. Accounts studied were classified as Good accounts or Bad accounts based upon their final resolution. Bad accounts were those written-off to bad debt with Good accounts being all others.

The probability of predicting a patient's account being either Good or Bad was based upon a consumer credit scoring process. The null hypothesis of this study was that the consumer credit scoring process would not provide any indication about the outcome or resolution of the account. Analysis of the credit …

Chief Executive Officer Turnover In U.S. Hospitals, Whittington Lee Bowers Jan 1995

Chief Executive Officer Turnover In U.S. Hospitals, Whittington Lee Bowers

UNF Graduate Theses and Dissertations

The annual rates of hospital Chief Executive Officer (CEO) turnover are important to track and evaluate for several reasons. Like other industries, the extent of hospital CEO turnover on an aggregate level is an indicator of the current instability and pace of change within the hospital industry. Sudden large changes in leadership trends can indicate broad changes in the industry, and small changes can indicate a general satisfaction with the status-quo. Since hospitals still dominate and have considerable influence over other sectors of the health care industry, the extent of hospital leadership changes, and the causes of those changes, are …
