Health Insurance Coverage And Factors That Affect Access To Healthcare, Bryce A. Jerin
Health Insurance Coverage And Factors That Affect Access To Healthcare, Bryce A. Jerin
Senior Theses
The modern landscape of the U.S. healthcare economy is a culmination of many decades of debate and growth. The system of health insurance coverage in the United States allows millions of Americans to participate in the delivery and access to care, while keeping millions out. Health insurance coverage, the availability of pharmaceuticals, and hospital billing practices are factors that affect the level of access to care. Healthcare has developed into a complex system with various stakeholders who act on their own incentives. Encouraging rational pricing for health care services is an important step toward ensuring access to care for everyone …
An Overview Of Supply-Chain Logistics In International Humanitarian Aid: Finding Challenges And Solutions, Arjun Ganga
An Overview Of Supply-Chain Logistics In International Humanitarian Aid: Finding Challenges And Solutions, Arjun Ganga
Independent Study Project (ISP) Collection
Humanitarian supply chain logistics concern the flow of goods and services in public health delivery. Such supply chains operate in both general development contexts and in acute crisis situations. In this paper, I give an overview of supply chains and then explore some of the challenges and potential solutions in delivering goods and services effectively and efficiently. Specifically, I analyze procurement, maintaining quality goods, incentivizing countries to act, collaboration, verification, possible losses in the supply chain, and ensuring appropriate use of product. I conclude that although humanitarian supply chains pose unique challenges, there is surprising efficiency in the system. This …

Can The Kanban Technique Reduce Medical Errors?, Juhi Hegde
Dissertations and Theses
This study discusses common medical errors and the extent of harm caused in the United States and explores the application of the Kanban technique of Lean Management in the healthcare industry to reduce medical errors. It also describes various scenarios of how the visual scheduling/ signaling system has been incorporated for continuous process improvement in the clinical and non-clinical sectors of the industry based on several review articles. Furthermore, a survey study was performed in order to assess whether ‘Kanban Visual Management System’ utilization in healthcare has the ability to reduce medical errors. A convenience sample of healthcare providers was …
Analysis Of Delays In Processing Times In An Ophthalmology Clinic, Kai Yung Natalie Lui
Analysis Of Delays In Processing Times In An Ophthalmology Clinic, Kai Yung Natalie Lui
Dissertations and Theses
Efficiency is an important component of any medical practice. It facilitates quality care, reduction in wait time, patient and staff satisfaction, and decreased cost. The purpose of this study was to identify bottlenecks in the current processing system in the Eye Center at Hershey Penn State Medical Center. Data was obtained about patients arriving at the clinic for ancillary tests such as visual field testing and retinal imaging. Analysis of this data revealed a statistically significant longer average length of visit for patients who received testing in comparison to those who did not. However, due to the small sample size …
Impact Of Wait Times, Perception Of Care And Environment On Patient Satisfaction At Infusion Centers And Dialysis Centers, Ke Li Yew
Dissertations and Theses
Waiting time is a significant component of patient satisfaction. Patient satisfaction is an increasingly important parameter in assessing the quality of care. Understanding the most important factors impacting overall satisfaction can help health care administrators and providers improve patient care. Numerous studies showed that there is a strong and negative relationship between wait times and patient satisfaction at ambulatory clinics, orthopedic clinics, endocrinology clinics or emergency rooms. However, patient satisfaction at infusion centers and dialysis centers has not been widely studied. This study aimed to investigate relationships between perceived waiting times, perception of care and environment and patient satisfaction at …
The Current State Of Migrant Health In Morocco: Pre-And Peri-Covid-19 Pandemic, Layla Babahaji
The Current State Of Migrant Health In Morocco: Pre-And Peri-Covid-19 Pandemic, Layla Babahaji
Independent Study Project (ISP) Collection
In the early 21st century, Morocco transitioned from being a predominantly transit migration country into both a transit and destination country for migrants. In 2013, the Moroccan government took significant steps to adapt the healthcare system in better integrating migrants in its policies. The government implemented the National Strategy on Immigration and Asylum that improved access to public health care for migrants. Recently, in March of 2020, Morocco declared a state of medical emergency due to the current COVID-19 pandemic that continues today. This paper addresses the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic on the current state of migrant health in …

Sustainability Of Rural Hospitals In The United States, Stephanie Cole, Kathleen Lanhan, Alberto Coustasse
Management Faculty Research
Introduction: Rural hospitals experienced both challenges and opportunities in providing healthcare to the community. As these facilities were one of the largest employers in the area, their impact was significant. The purpose of this study was to determine the sustainability of rural hospitals in the U.S. by examining variables that affect these institutions such as accessibility, availability of services, quality outcomes, and effective administrative practices.
Methodology: This qualitative study utilized a literature review and open-ended survey of an expert in Hospital Administration within or collaborating with rural areas. Five databases were used to collect 48 total sources. These sources were …

Understanding The Dimensions Of Medical Crowdfunding: A Visual Analytics Approach, Jie Ren, Viju Raghupathi, Wullianallur Raghupathi
Understanding The Dimensions Of Medical Crowdfunding: A Visual Analytics Approach, Jie Ren, Viju Raghupathi, Wullianallur Raghupathi
Publications and Research
Background: Medical crowdfunding has emerged as a growing field for fundraising opportunities. Some environmental trends have driven the emergence of campaigns to raise funds for medical care. These trends include lack of medical insurance, economic backlash following the 2008 financial collapse, and shortcomings of health care regulations.
Objective: Research regarding crowdfunding campaign use, reasons, and effects on the provision of medical care and individual relationships in health systems is limited. This study aimed to explore the nature and dimensions of the phenomenon of medical crowdfunding using a visual analytics approach and data crawled from the GoFundMe crowdfunding platform in 2019. …

Scheduling Like A Pro, Joseph Gibney
Emergency Medicine
Scheduling is difficult, but believe it or not, it can also be rewarding. This is one chief’s take on three years of scheduling and the highs, lows, do’s, don’ts, and novel ways to help your fellow residents live their best residency life.
- Show that resident wellness is impacted by scheduling
- Demonstrate our scheduling process, some errors we made over time, and how we learned from them
- Discuss some novel scheduling tactics, how other residencies may apply what we’ve learned, and how to adapt it to fit their needs

The Effect Of Heart Score Risk Stratification Tool On Length Of Stay, Kelly Huffman
The Effect Of Heart Score Risk Stratification Tool On Length Of Stay, Kelly Huffman
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
Abstract
With increasing national health care expenditures, different methods of reducing health care costs, along with supportive evidence-based research, are essential. This research will lead to changes in clinical practice standards including the utilization of tools by emergency room and hospitalist providers to reduce costs by decreasing the length of stay for acute chest pain admissions. The researcher utilized a retrospective review of charts for participants admitted into the acute care setting with the primary diagnosis of acute chest pain, with a focus on determining whether an initial calculation of a HEART Score risk stratification variable was completed and if …
