Electronic health record (EHR) has replaced conventional medical records in Indonesia. Until now, its utilization is still not optimal, and there are still frequent problems with incomplete filling of the EHR form due to individual factors. To examine the association between knowledge and workload with healthcare professionals' (HCPs) compliance in filling out HER, considering the mediating role of attitude. We performed a cross-sectional study on 80 HCPs who worked at the Intensive Care Unit of the National Cardiovascular Centre Harapan Kita. We observe the level of knowledge and workload as independent variables, attitudes as mediating variables, and compliance as the …

Surgical patients can be discharged to a variety of facilities which vary widely in intensity of care. Postoperative readmissions have been found to be more strongly associated with post-discharge events than pre-discharge complications, indicating the importance of discharge destination. We sought to evaluate the association between discharge destination and 30-day outcomes. A retrospective cohort study was conducted using the American College of Surgeons National Surgical Quality Improvement Program (ACS-NSQIP) database. Patients were dichotomized based on discharge destination: home versus non-home. The main outcome of interest was 30-day unplanned readmission. The secondary outcomes included post-discharge pulmonary, infectious, thromboembolic, and bleeding complications, …

Gericared: Feasibility Of A Pilot Program Of A Geriatric Personal Care Attendant Addressing Mentation, Mobility And Matters Most In An Emergency Department Observation Unit, Ilianna Santangelo, Anne Marie Thompson, Aileen Tubridy, Kendra Cull, Bridget Conly, Benjamin A. White, Maura Kennedy

Journal of Geriatric Emergency Medicine

The aging of the population has a significant impact on the health care system, as older adults have higher rates of emergency department (ED) visits and hospitalization, different care needs, and are at higher risk of iatrogenic harm in the hospital setting. In addition, there has recently been a rapid growth in ED observation units (EDOUs), to which older adults are frequently admitted. Recognizing the specific needs of older adults, our EDOU implemented an ‘Up by 10’ program which incorporates key components of delirium prevention programs. We took an iterative approach to the implementation of this program, resulting in a …

Using Noninvasive Calibrated Cuff Plethysmography To Observe The Effects Of Cold-Water Immersion On Arterial Compliance, Rita M. Grigorian

Master's Theses

As the prevalence of cardiovascular diseases continues to exponentially grow in populations across the globe, the necessity of determining underlying factors, effective methods of diagnoses, and universally available preventive measures also grows. Early detection of endothelial dysfunction, a proven precursor of cardiovascular diseases, can be extremely impactful in encouraging preventative measures and early intervention before medical conditions become chronic. In recent years, ice plunging, a form of cryotherapy involving full body immersion in cold water, has gained popularity within circles of fitness and health practitioners, gaining the interest of people of all backgrounds. Certain parallels observed between the human physiological …

Validation Of Macro Button Toolbar System For Radiology Report Composition, Brennan L. Chow

College of Engineering Summer Undergraduate Research Program

The macro button toolbar system was developed to enhance radiologist report composition and improve group productivity in response to a rise in imaging volume and an impending radiologist workforce shortage. This research aims to validate the proposed benefits of the macro button toolbar system using an analysis of a time study and the radiology group’s historical wRVU productivity data. The study found that radiologists using this system achieved significantly higher productivity compared to national averages, with high toolbar users experiencing a 29% increase in wRVU productivity and a 52.6% reduction in report completion time for X-ray exams. The reduced report …

Faculty, Staff and Student Publications

Provider recommendation of human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccination among adolescents has steadily improved over the years, however, limited research has been conducted to examine if the COVID-19 pandemic disrupted this positive trend in parent-reported provider recommendation among minority adolescents. Therefore, we conducted the present study to determine if there is an association between the pandemic and parent-reported provider recommendation of HPV vaccine among non-Hispanic black and Hispanic adolescents. We also examined whether any changes in parent-reported provider recommendation in the years 2019, 2020, and 2021 differed by race or ethnicity. Using a cross-sectional design to examine data from the National Immunization …

Prescribing Protocol For Postoperative Opioids In An Orthopedic Spine Practice, Kelly M. Manda

All Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) Scholarly Projects

Problem: The opioid epidemic is magnified by excessive post-surgery prescriptions. Over six months at an orthopedic spine practice, 50% of patients received two or more opioid refills beyond their first. This highlighted the absence of a clear prescribing policy and emphasized the need for a structured protocol and to promote patient safety.

Aim of the Project: The primary aim was to implement a prescribing protocol to lower opioid refills provided to post-surgical patients in this surgical practice. The desired result was to reduce the number of opioid refills provided to patients after surgery.

Review of the Evidence: Evidence highlighted …

Optimizing Medication Prior Authorization, Miranda Delatore

All Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) Scholarly Projects

Problem: Prior authorizations (PAs) play a pivotal role in ensuring patients’ access to prescription medications. However, this process often leads to delays in patient care and places increased burden on healthcare professionals.

Aim of the Project: The aim of this project was to expedite the processing of medication PAs for adult patients with a target of reducing the processing time to less than 36 hours. This not only facilitates prompt medication initiation for patients but also reduces costs and time expended by the healthcare organization.

Review of the Evidence: A comprehensive review of the literature indicates that suboptimal PA …

Quality Improvement Initiative To Improve Time And Adherence To Revaccination After Hematopoietic Cell Transplantation: Implementation Of A Revaccination Clinic Within The Transplantation Program, Caitlin Elgarten, Anne Wohlschlaeger, Ellen Levy, Katharine Tadley, Lei Wang, Megan Atkinson, Houston Roberson, Timothy Olson, Nancy Bunin, Jennifer Heimall, Brian Fisher, Stephan Grupp, Jason Freedman

Faculty, Staff and Students Publications

Background:

Revaccination after hematopoietic cell transplantation (HCT) is critical to prevent morbidity and mortality from vaccine preventable illnesses. While earlier re-vaccination after HCT is desirable, they may be ineffective if deployed before partial reconstitution of adaptive immunity. Increasingly, personalized approaches to re-vaccination after HCT have replaced time-based protocols in order to minimize unvaccinated time and enhance vaccine effectiveness. Furthermore, for revaccination to be maximally beneficial, compliance with, and timely delivery of the complete revaccination schedule is imperative, but rare, and there is little data on strategies to optimize vaccine delivery.

Objectives:

The global aim of our quality improvement initiative was …
