The use of Hypomethylating agents combined with Venetoclax (VH) for the treatment of Acute Myeloid Leukemia (AML) has greatly improved outcomes in recent years. However not all patients benefit from the VH regimen and a way to rationally select between VH and Conventional Chemotherapy (CC) for individual AML patients is needed. Here, we developed a proteomic-based triaging strategy using Reverse-phase Protein Arrays (RPPA) to optimize therapy selection. OBJECTIVE: Patients treated for oropharyngeal cancer (OPC) have historically demonstrated high feeding tube rates for decreased oral intake and malnutrition. We re-examined feeding tube practices in these patients.

STUDY DESIGN: Retrospective analysis of prospective cohort from 2015 to 2021.

A woman with recent personalized external aortic root support implant presented in cardiogenic shock with bilateral coronary ostial occlusion and aortic inflammation requiring emergency coronary angioplasty. Subsequent computed tomography with positron emission tomography scanning demonstrated aortitis with extensive inflammation adjacent to the personalized external aortic root support mesh, the first report of this important complication.

Hematopoietic stem and progenitor cells (HSPCs) maintain blood-forming and immune activity, yet intrinsic regulators of HSPCs remain elusive. STAT3 function in HSPCs has been difficult to dissect as Stat3-deficiency in the hematopoietic compartment induces systemic inflammation, which can impact HSPC activity. Here, we developed mixed bone marrow (BM) chimeric mice with inducible Stat3 deletion in 20% of the hematopoietic compartment to avoid systemic inflammation. Stat3-deficient HSPCs were significantly impaired in reconstitution ability following primary or secondary bone marrow transplantation, indicating hematopoietic stem cell (HSC) defects. This case report presents a 62-year-old male who had previously undergone curative colectomy and neoadjuvant chemotherapy in 2005 for colorectal cancer. He presented with jaundice, which was initially attributed to choledocholithiasis. After cholecystectomy and repeat ERCPs, hyperbilirubinemia persisted. There was persistent dilation of the right posterior duct on imaging, concerning for biliary stricture, possibly due to cholangiocarcinoma or intraductal papillary neoplasm. During a right posterior hepatectomy, a peripheral liver lesion was found in association with the dilated bile duct. On frozen evaluation, the lesion was found to be invasive adenocarcinoma. Pulmonary hamartomas (PH) are rare but are the most common benign tumors found in the lungs. They are slow-growing and are usually found incidentally on chest imaging during the sixth decade of life. Approximately 10% of pulmonary hamartomas are endobronchial. Rarely, pulmonary hamartomas can cause a spectrum of pulmonary symptoms depending on their size and location. We present a case of endobronchial hamartoma causing airway obstruction and recurrent post-obstructive pneumonia.

BACKGROUND: Sinusoidal obstruction syndrome is a potentially fatal complication following hematopoietic cell transplantation, high-intensity chemotherapies and increasingly seen with calicheamicin based leukemia therapies. Paediatric specific European Society for Blood and Marrow Transplantation (pEBMT) diagnostic criteria have demonstrated benefit in single center studies compared to historic criteria. Yet, the extent to which they have been universally implemented remains unclear.

BACKGROUND: Reduced insulin-like growth factor-1 (IGF-1) levels may contribute to impaired organ development in preterm infants. Using preterm pigs as a model, we hypothesized that IGF-1 supplementation improves health and gut development during the first three weeks of life.

METHODS: First, clinical and organ endpoints were compared between artificially-reared, cesarean-delivered preterm pigs and vaginally-delivered, sow-reared term pigs at 5, 9 and 19 days. Next, preterm pigs were treated with recombinant human IGF-1 for 19 days (2.25 mg/kg/day, systemically).

Introduction. Cancer-associated thrombosis is a significant prognostic marker in pancreatic neoplasia, with a venous thromboembolism incidence of 17-34%. This study focuses on cancer-associated thrombosis risk factors, screening scores, and treatment options. Materials and Methods. Comprehensive database searches were conducted across Web of Science, PubMed, Reaxys, ScienceDirect, and Scopus. Results. Of the 37 articles reviewed, findings include splanchnic vein thrombosis correlating with pancreatic complications and survival rates. Gender differences in cancer-associated thrombosis risk were inconclusive, while African Americans showed a higher incidence of pulmonary embolism. Actinic granuloma (AG) is a rare skin eruption thought to result from a sun-induced inflammatory response attracting giant cells, which are large, multinucleated, and inflammatory, to form granulomas and degrade surrounding elastic material. Clinically, lesions begin on sun-exposed skin as pink papules and nodules that coalesce into demarcated annular plaques with a hypopigmented center. The pathophysiology of keloid formation is poorly understood, and current treatments, including intralesional corticosteroids, cryotherapy, and surgery, are often associated with high resistance to treatment and recurrence. The multifactorial pathogenesis of keloid formation suggests that aberrant inflammatory cytokine signaling associated with keratinocyte dysregulation may contribute to keloid-associated pruritus.

Inguinal hernias are very common. Their pathology and treatment are typically strait forward. Metastatic cancer can sometimes present as an inguinal hernia, but this presentation is often local metastasis.

Herein we describe the case of a 68-year-old man who presented with a 2-month history of an inguinal hernia. Intraoperatively, the hernia sac was found to contain a mass attached to the spermatic cord, which was later determined to be a metastatic lesion from a locally advanced proximal transverse colon adenocarcinoma.

Lesions are clinically characterized as well-demarcated, erythematous papules (raised, <1 cm) or plaques (raised, >1 cm), with an atrophic center, and raised scaly border. Porokeratosis is an important diagnosis to identify because it may undergo malignant transformation and mimics many commonly encountered diagnoses. These commonly mimicked diagnoses include squamous cell carcinoma, tinea corporis, nummular dermatitis, and psoriasis vulgaris, to name a few. The clinical images in this review focus on identifying porokeratosis along the full spectrum of skin tones.

Atopic dermatitis is a chronic inflammatory skin disorder classically affecting flexural areas of the body. It is present in children and adults, including those with darker skin pigmentation. Chronic lesions are hyperpigmented plaques that are dry, cracked, and/or scaly often with lichenification. Differential diagnoses include psoriasis, seborrheic dermatitis, ichthyosis, and pityriasis rosea. This article will showcase clinical images with varying presentations of chronic atopic dermatitis in a range of age groups and skin colors according to the Fitzpatrick scale.

The underlying skin pigmentation of the individual may affect how this disease presents.
