Pseudomonas putida is a rod-shaped, flagellated, non-lactose fermenting, gram negative bacterium, usually found in water and soil habitats. P. putida generally causes nosocomial infections in immunocompromised patients. Increased infection rates are seen in those patients with medical devices inserted, due to this organism’s innate ability to attach to moist and inanimate objects. In this case report we present a 63-year-old male patient with a past medical history of type II diabetes mellitus, chronic kidney disease stage 5, and hypertension who presented with P. putida cellulitis and bacteremia. Creutzfeldt-Jakob Disease (CJD) is an exceedingly rare condition with an incidence of one case per million people worldwide. It is diagnosed with symptoms of rapid neurological decline, positive CSF biomarkers, and diagnostic findings on MRI and EEG. There is no known effective therapy for CJD and prompt diagnosis is required to prepare for the expected disease prognosis and goals of care discussions.

Arginine-rich dipeptide repeat proteins (R-DPRs) are highly toxic proteins found in patients with C9orf72-linked amyotrophic lateral sclerosis and frontotemporal dementia (C9-ALS/FTD). R-DPRs can cause toxicity by disrupting the natural phase behavior of RNA-binding proteins (RBPs). Mitigating this abnormal phase behavior is, therefore, crucial to reduce R-DPR-induced toxicity. Here, we use FUS as a model RBP to investigate the mechanism of R-DPR-induced aberrant RBP phase transition. We find that this phase transition can be mitigated by Kapβ2. Pediatric low-grade gliomas (pLGGs) exhibit heterogeneous prognoses and variable responses to treatment, leading to tumor progression and adverse outcomes in cases where complete resection is unachievable. Early prediction of treatment responsiveness and suitability for immunotherapy has the potential to improve clinical management and outcomes. Here, we present a radiogenomic analysis of pLGGs, integrating MRI and RNA sequencing data. We identify three immunologically distinct clusters, with one group characterized by increased immune activity and poorer prognosis, indicating potential benefit from immunotherapies. We develop a radiomic signature that predicts these immune profiles with over 80% accuracy. Furthermore, our clinicoradiomic model predicts progression-free …

Introduction: Placenta accreta spectrum disorders (PASD) are associated with severe maternal morbidity, including hemorrhage requiring massive transfusion, intensive care unit (ICU) admission, coagulopathy, organ ischemia or failure, and death. The adherent placenta results in continuous mixed arterial and venous bleeding, preventing the uterus from adequately contracting. This can result in a blood loss rate of 600 mL or more per minute, posing a risk of exsanguination in less than five minutes. The arteriovenous malformation (AVM) is a vascular malformation characterized by fistulas between arteries and veins forming a nidus, without interposition of capillary vessels and of which early draining vein is identified at the digital angiography. Potential reports of its existence date from the second century AD. Spetzler and Martin (S-M) proposed a classification considering three features and Lawton then added new predictors. A maximum of 10 score can be achieved by applying the modified S-M grade system. Recent advances in immunology have broken barriers in reproductive medicine through immune-modulating therapies that support fertility and pregnancy. Treatments such as intravenous immunoglobulin (IVIG) and intralipid infusions are increasingly offered to patients with Recurrent Implantation Failure (RIF) or Recurrent Pregnancy Loss (RPL), conditions that result in miscarriages and failed IVF treatments (Pillarysetti et al., 2023). Maternal-fetal immunology reveals a delicate interplay between immune tolerance and defense: the maternal system must accept a genetically foreign fetus while preserving immunological protection. BACKGROUND: Cigarette smoking is an important etiology for cardiac diseases and electronic cigarettes are increasing in popularity. In the current study, we assessed physiological and transcriptional changes in human induced pluripotent stem cell derived cardiomyocytes (iPS-CMs) after exposure to electronic cigarette extract (ECE) and conventional cigarette extract (CSE).

METHODS: iPS-CMS were plated on multi-electrode array plates (MEA), electrical and contractile properties were determined by Maestro Edge and computer assisted video analysis (MuscleMotion). Transcriptional profiles were accessed by direct digital mRNA detection of heart failure targeted genes.

Synthesized knowledge of motor learning strategies could be used to facilitate the motor development of children with neurodevelopmental disorders (NDDs). To map the current research, we followed the established framework and protocol for scoping reviews. Among the 25 papers, the most studied strategies include dual-task and observational learning. The studies predominantly involved children with cerebral palsy, but research is growing among children with intellectual disability, autism and developmental coordination disorder. This is the case of a 29 year old female who initially presented with generalized joint aches noted to have neurosyphilis. Because of her delayed treatment, this case presents interesting findings that we classically no longer see in syphilis cases due to early detection and treatment. The case looks at the early symptoms as well as late symptoms if syphilis is left untreated. The patient was ultimately treated with IV penicillin with improvement of her symptoms.

Currently, 2.6% of Americans suffer from heart failure. Common causes include coronary artery disease, chronic hypertension, arrhythmia, and myocardial infarction, often managed in clinical and hospital settings. A rare cause, however, is infiltrative cardiomyopathy, affecting just 0.04% of the U.S. population. This condition, often caused by amyloid buildup or sarcoidosis, is challenging to diagnose and typically requires a heart transplant due to its rapid progression.
