The Impact Of Aging On Fibroblast Gene Expression In Post-Extraction Wound Healing: A Single-Cell Rna Sequencing Study, Paula Christina Cohen Schlemmer

Wound healing is slower in aged patients. Immediately after tooth extraction, fibroblasts are activated to rebuild the ECM, which is later remodeled through the expression of MMPs. Gene expression may be altered in fibroblasts of aged patients leading to deficiencies in ECM deposition and the recruitment and proliferation of immune cells, resulting in a slow-healing fibrotic wound.

Using scRNA-seq, soft tissue was profiled from two healthy patients: one young and one aged at the time of tooth extraction. Two weeks post-extraction, a second soft tissue sample was harvested. Differentially expressed genes were used to identify enriched pathways for each …

The objective approach is fundamentally different from the standard subjective visual assessment that professionals in the dental field using the Basic Erosive Wear Evaluation (BEWE) method.

AIM: To develop and validate an automated electronic health record (EHR)-based algorithm to suggest a periodontal diagnosis based on the 2017 World Workshop on the Classification of Periodontal Diseases and Conditions.

MATERIALS AND METHODS: Using material published from the 2017 World Workshop, a tool was iteratively developed to suggest a periodontal diagnosis based on clinical data within the EHR. Proliferative verrucous leukoplakia (PVL) is an uncommon type of oral leukoplakia characterized by white patches featuring verrucoid areas. It is a condition of idiopathic origin, displaying a strong tendency to transform into squamous cell carcinoma, verrucous carcinoma, or the newly described particulate carcinoma. PVL is more commonly found in elderly women who have had leukoplakic lesions for many years. Human mandibular premolars represent a morphologically transitional tooth class, possessing a relatively caniniform third premolar (P3) and a more molariform fourth premolar (P4). Marked variation in cusp height and lingual cusp number are characteristics unique to these postcanine teeth. The aim of this study is to determine if human premolar variation aligns with predictions outlined by the patterning cascade model (PCM). Fourth generation ENDS manufacturers attract the adolescent demographic with a smooth vaping experience with enticing flavors such as “Piña Colada” or “Peppermint Blast.” Components of e-liquids in cartridges of ENDS combine protonated nicotine, also referred as nicotine salts, with flavors in a propylene glycol or vegetable glycerin solvent.
