Summary of Project: The Give Kids a Smile (GKAS) program is a national event through the American Dental Association. Its goal is to provide underserved children with free, quality oral health care and preventative education. At UOP, the GKAS event was sponsored by the Pediatric Department, with whom we worked closely to orchestrate the finer details of the event. We hypothesized that imaging mass cytometry (IMC) would reveal distinct TIME characteristics associated with histopathological grades. A 40-plex IMC, covering markers for tumor structure, multiple immune cells, and their signaling activity, was used to investigate the TIMEs of formalin-fixed, paraffin-embedded (FFPE) incisional oral tongue biopsies. The study aimed to determine the accuracy of diagnosing periodontal conditions using the developed web-based PocketPerio application and evaluate the user’s perspective on the use of PocketPerio. First, 22 third-year dental students (DS3) diagnosed ten cases without PocketPerio (control) and with PocketPerio (test) during a mock examination. Then, 105 DS3, 13 fourth-year dental students (DS4), and 32 senior second-year International Standing Program students (ISP2) used PocketPerio chairside. Statistical analysis was performed using a non-parametric paired two-tailed test of significance with the Wilcoxon matched-pairs signed rank test. The purpose of this systematic review is to evaluate auriculotemporal nerve blocks for temporomandibular joint (TMJ) disorder management. 583 articles reviewed from five databases, selected four studies for pooled analysis on visual analog scale (VAS) and maximum mouth opening (MMO) outcomes. Pooled analysis showed significant improvement in VAS (-2.27, p < 0.001) and MMO (0.94, p = 0.03) post-auriculotemporal nerve blocks for TMJ disorder. Auriculotemporal nerve blocks demonstrate potential effectiveness in TMJ disorder treatment, warranting further research on long-term effects and side effects.
