วัตถุประสงค์ เพื่อสังเคราะห์และศึกษาลักษณะของโครงค้ํายันคอลลาเจนที่สกัดจากหนังสุกรผสมไฮดรอกซีอะพาไทต์สําหรับการนําไปใช้เป็นโครงค้ํายันในการชักนําให้เกิดการซ่อมแซมกระดูก วัสดุและวิธีการ คอลลาเจนที่ใช้ในการเตรียมโครงค้ํายันในการศึกษานี้ สกัดได้จากการละลายหนังสุกรในกรด ร่วมกับเอนไซม์ และตกตะกอนด้วยเกลือ นําคอลลาเจนที่สกัดได้มาทําเป็นสารละลายที่มีความเข้มข้น ร้อยละ 1.5 ร้อยละ 2 และร้อยละ 2.5 โดยน้ําหนักตามลําดับ แล้วผสมเข้ากับผลึกไฮดรอกซีอะพาไทต์ ในอัตราส่วนไฮดรอกซี อะพาไทต์ต่อสารละลายคอลลาเจน 1:10 (น้ําหนักต่อปริมาตร) สารผสมของคอลลาเจนและไฮดรอกซีอะพาไทต์ ถูกทําให้เป็นโครงค้ํายันที่มีลักษณะคล้ายฟองน้ําด้วยการแช่แข็งและอบแห้งเยือกแข็งเป็นเวลา 24 ชั่วโมง โดยใช้ อุณหภูมิในการแช่แข็งแตกต่างกัน 2 กลุ่ม คือ กลุ่มที่ทําให้อุณหภูมิแช่แข็งต่ําลงอย่างช้า ๆ และกลุ่มที่ทําให้ อุณหภูมิแช่แข็งต่ําลงอย่างรวดเร็ว จากนั้นทําให้โครงค้ํายันคอลลาเจนคงตัวด้วยการทําปฏิกิริยาเชื่อมขวางศึกษาลักษณะโครงสร้างโดยละเอียดของโครงค้ํายันคอลลาเจนที่สังเคราะห์ภายใต้สภาวะแตกต่างกันด้วยกล้องจุลทรรศน์อิเล็กตรอนชนิดส่องกราด และศึกษาขนาดของรูพรุนด้วยกล้องจุลทรรศน์ชนิดแสงขาว วิเคราะห์ ความแตกต่างของขนาดรูพรุนด้วยวิธีการทางสถิติ ผลการศึกษา โครงค้ํายันคอลลาเจนที่สังเคราะห์ขึ้นด้วยวิธีการดังกล่าว มีลักษณะคล้ายฟองน้ํา กดนิ่ม สีขาว ไม่มีกลิ่นและละลายน้ําได้อย่างรวดเร็ว และเมื่อผ่านการทําปฏิกิริยาเชื่อมขวางแล้ว โครงค้ํายันมีความคงตัว มากขึ้น จากการศึกษาด้วยกล้องจุลทรรศน์อิเล็กตรอนชนิดส่องกราดพบว่าโครงค้ํายันมีลักษณะเป็นรูพรุน ประกอบด้วยแผ่นที่เกิดจากการอัดแน่นของเส้นใยคอลลาเจนจํานวนมากสานกันไปมา โดยมีผลึกของไฮดรอกซีอะพาไทต์ติดอยู่ที่ผนังของรูพรุนเหล่านี้ จากการศึกษาเปรียบเทียบลักษณะของโครงค้ํายันที่เตรียมภายใต้สภาวะแตกต่างกัน (P>0.05) ในขณะที่โครงค้ํายันที่ผลิตจากคอลลาเจนที่มีความเข้มข้นเดียวกัน แต่เตรียมภายใต้สภาวะ แช่แข็งต่างกัน มีขนาดของรูพรุนแตกต่างกันอย่างมีนัยสําคัญทางสถิติ (p < 0.05) กล่าวคือ โครงค้ํายันที่ใช้ อุณหภูมิแช่แข็งต่ําลงอย่างช้า ๆ ขนาดเฉลี่ยของรูพรุนใหญ่กว่าโครงค้ํายันที่ใช้อุณหภูมิแช่แข็งต่ําลงอย่างรวดเร็ว สรุป คอลลาเจนที่สกัดได้จากหนังสุกร เมื่อนําไปผสมกับไฮดรอกซีอะพาไทต์ สามารถนําไปผลิตเป็นโครงค้ํายันที่ คงตัวได้ด้วยวิธีอบแห้งเยือกแข็งร่วมกับการทําปฏิกิริยาเชื่อมขวาง โดยลักษณะและขนาดของรูพรุนโครงค้ํายันคอลลาเจนผสมไฮดรอกซีอะพาไทต์ มีความสัมพันธ์กับความเร็วในการลดต่ําลงของอุณหภูมิในการแช่แข็ง แต่ไม่สัมพันธ์กับความเข้มข้นของสารละลายคอลลาเจนที่ใช้ในการสังเคราะห์ (ว ทันต จุฬาฯ 2555;35:1-14)

Objectives: To determine the amount of initial fluoride release from four orthodontic bonding systems over a period of four weeks, and then to subject these materials to an external source of fluoride for recharge in order to measure the amount of fluoride re-release over another four-week interval. Orthodontic tooth movement is a biological response to a mechanical force. One of the challenges in orthodontics is obtaining desired tooth movement during treatment. Accelerating tooth movement and decreasing demands on anchorage can reduce treatment times and overall satisfaction for patient and doctor. Low-level laser therapy (LLLT) is emerging as a technology that may decrease orthodontic treatment time. Purpose: The purpose of this study was to determine if vital tooth whitening affects oral health-related quality of life (OHRQOL) in adults age 50 years and older, and if tooth whitening causes increased participation in social activities.

Methods: Using a 2 group, single blind, randomized, pre-test, multiple post-test design, 62 participants were enrolled. The experimental group used a whitening product twice daily for 3 weeks. The control group used no whitening products. The Oral Health Impact Profile (OHIP) served as the pre- and post-test measure. The OHIP measures OHRQOL on 7 subscales: functional factors, psychological disabilities, psychological discomforts, physical disabilities, …

Introduction: It has been established that gingival inflammation is exacerbated during puberty, in women taking oral contraceptives, and during pregnancy. Increased levels of sex hormones are implicated in the changes in periodontal conditions. It has also been established that treatn1ent with fixed orthodontic appliances presents a favorable situation for plaque accumulation, making oral hygiene more difficult to maintain. Purpose: The purpose of this study was to determine policies and practices regarding magnification loupes among faculty and students in accredited dental hygiene programs as measured by a 31 item, self-designed questionnaire. In addition, the study compared policies among dental hygiene programs in 2 year versus 4 year programs in terms of requirements for the use of magnification loupes.

Methods: After institutional review board approval, a 31 item self-designed questionnaire was emailed via Survey Monkey to 303 entry-level dental hygiene programs. An overall response rate of 75% was obtained. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics and chi-square test of independence. …

Introduction: Mitogen Activating Protein (MAPK) kinase phosphatase-1 (MKP-1) has been shown to be a key negative regulator of the MAP kinase pathways of the innate immune system. The impact of MKP-1 in an endodontic model has yet to be studied. Thus, the purpose of this study was to determine the role of MKP-1 in a bacterial-driven model of pathological endodontic bone loss. Introduction: A common adverse effect using thermoplasticized obturators is overextension. A canal preparation allowing for predictable obturation length would be of clinical value. This study compared straight canals instrumented to a size 40 file using a 0.04 standardized taper preparation (STP) and a varied taper preparation (VTP) by evaluating the extension of two thermoplastic obturation systems: RealSeall ™ (RS-l) and Thermafil® Plus (TP). The increasing prevalence of autism spectrum disorder (ASD) suggests that dental practices will be seeing patients with this diagnosis more frequently. Although patients with ASD have similar dental needs to other patients, the symptoms of the disorder may influence the ability of dental practitioners to provide necessary care. Dental professionals may be unaware of the difficulties with sensory processing common to patients with ASD. However, awareness of sensory processing issues and knowledge of strategies to improve the sensory experience for individuals with ASD may improve dental visits for these patients and allow for enhanced dental care provision.
