A Survey Of Floss Frequency, Habit, And Technique In A Hospital Dental Clinic And Private, Stuart Segelnick Dds, Ms

The purpose of the study was to determine floss frequency, habits and techniques of patients entering a private periodontal office (office site) vs. a hospital dental clinic (hospital site). It was found that the flossing frequency in a hospital dental clinic is far less than in a private practice, and patients who do floss may not be using the proper flossing technique. Patients need more instruction and care with regard to their interproximal oral hygiene.

Strategies used to enhance liposome-mediated drug delivery in vivo include the enhancement of stability and circulation time in the bloodstream, targeting to specific tissues or cells, and facilitation of intracytoplasmic delivery. pH-sensitive liposomes have been developed to mediate the introduction of highly hydrophilic molecules or macromolecules into the cytoplasm. These liposomes destabilize under acidic conditions found in the endocytotic pathway, and usually contain phosphatidylethanolamine (PE) and titratable stabilizing amphiphiles. Formulations without PE have also been developed. Encapsulated compounds are thought to be transported into the cytoplasm through destabilization of or fusion with the endosome membrane. The purpose of this study was to determine if differences existed in range of wrist movements and scaling time efficiency in dental hygienists that use a rotating ultrasonic insert as compared to those who use a standard universal insert. A convenience sample of 30 consenting experienced dental hygienists from the Norfolk area who met inclusion criteria was invited to be subjects. Using a crossover research design, each experimental subject used the rotating ultrasonic scaling insert to remove 2 cc artificial calculus from a typodont in a controlled, simulated clinical situation for up to 15 minutes. Carcinoma of the cervix is causally related to infection with the human papillomavirus (HPV), and T cells play a pivotal role in the immune response of the host to rid itself of HPV infection. Therefore, we assessed the T-cell function of women with HPV-related cervical neoplasia against a superantigen, Staphylococcus enterotoxin B (SEB). Each woman provided a cervical brush specimen for HPV DNA testing and Papanicolaou (Pap) smears for the staging of cervical lesions. Detection Of Bacteria To Dental Tissue By Low-Light Imaging, G-Hong Robert Hsu

Bacteria have been shown to play an important role in the development of pulp and periradicular disease. The source of the infective bacteria is most often the oral cavity. Previous studies have detected bacteria in teeth that are structurally intact that seemingly have no communication intraorally. Anachoresis has been proposed as a mechanism for localizing circulating bacteria to such teeth. In several previous bacteriologic anachoresis studies, bacteria have been found to localize in inflamed dental tissues. The criticism most commonly associated with these investigations has been the potential contribution of contaminant bacteria resulting in false positive findings.

Objective: To determine if the prevalence of respiratory disease among dental students and dental residents varies with their exposure to the clinical dental environment.

Methods: A detailed questionnaire was administered to 817 students at 3 dental schools. The questionnaire sought information concerning demographic characteristics, school year, exposure to the dental environment and dental procedures, and history of respiratory disease. The data obtained were subjected to bivariate and multiple logistic regression analysis.

Results: Respondents reported experiencing the following respiratory conditions during the previous year: asthma (26 cases), bronchitis (11 cases), chronic lung disease (6 cases), pneumonia (5 cases) …

Tooth Morphology is a computer-assisted learning program designed to teach the anatomy of the adult dentition. The purpose of this study was to test whether Tooth Morphology could teach dental anatomy to first-year dental students as well as the traditional lecture. A randomized controlled trial was performed with forty-five first-year dental students. การศึกษาอัตราความชุกของฟันที่ได้รับอันตรายจากแรงกระแทกในเด็กนักเรียนชาย, จินตนา ทุมโฆสิต

วัตถุประสงค์ เพื่อศึกษาอัตราความชุกของฟันที่ได้รับอันตรายจากแรงกระแทก สาเหตุและผลกระทบต่อฟันที่ได้รับ อันตราย รวมทั้งฟันซี่ที่ได้รับอันตรายบ่อยที่สุด วัสดุและวิธีการโดยการสํารวจทางระบาดวิทยาด้วยการสุ่มตัวอย่างแบบเฉพาะเจาะจงจากนักเรียนชายในช่วงอายุ 17-18 ปี ในครอบครัวที่มีฐานะทางเศรษฐกิจและสังคมระดับปานกลางจนถึงดี ในกรุงเทพมหานคร จํานวน 2,934 คน โดยทันตแพทย์ตรวจสภาพของฟันแท้ที่มีการแตกปั่น หัก ที่ได้รับการบูรณะแล้ว หรือยังไม่ได้รับการบูรณะ รวมทั้งฟันที่เปลี่ยนสี โยก และสูญหาย ร่วมกับการซักประวัติโดยผู้ช่วยทันตแพทย์ที่ได้รับการฝึกหัดมาแล้ว ผลการศึกษา พบว่ามีความชุกของฟันที่ได้รับอันตรายจากแรงกระแทกร้อยละ 9.3 (277 คน, 354 ) โดยสาเหตุ สําคัญคือการหกล้ม (ร้อยละ 53.1) อุบัติเหตุทุกชนิดมักเกิดกับฟันตัดซี่กลางหน้าบนทั้งซ้ายและขวา (ร้อยละ 47.6) และ (ร้อยละ 43.3) ความรุนแรงที่ฟันได้รับแรงกระแทกส่วนใหญ่จะเกิดกับชั้นเคลือบฟัน (ร้อยละ 45.8) สรุป จากผลการศึกษาแสดงให้ทราบอัตราความชุกของฟันที่ได้รับอันตรายจากแรงกระแทก ซึ่งข้อมูลดังกล่าวมี ประโยชน์ในการกระตุ้นให้สังคมเกิดความตื่นตัวในการหามาตรการป้องกันอันตรายต่อไป

การคึกษาครั้งนี้เพื่อหาความกว้างเฉลี่ยในแนวใกล้แก้มถึงใกล้ลิ้นของสันกระดูกขากรรไกรว่างในขากรรไกรบนและล่างและหาความสัมพันธ์ของความกว้างเฉลี่ยกับอายุหรือเพศในประชากรไทยกลุ่มหนึ่ง ทําการศึกษาโดยใช้ชิ้นหล่อวินิจฉัยของผู้ป่วยในภาควิชาทันตกรรมประดิษฐ์คณะทันตแพทยศาสตร์จุฬาลงกรณ์มหาวิทยาลัยระหว่างปี พ.ศ. 2536-40 จํานวน 113 คู่ เป็นชาย 45 คน หญิง 68 คน มีอายุเฉลี่ย 42.98 ปี มาวัดโดยใช้ Boyley sliding caliper จากระดับจุดสูงสุดของสั่นเหงือกลงมาทางปลายรากฟันเป็นระยะ 3, 5 และ 7 มิลลิเมตร ตามลําดับ ในแต่ละตําแหน่งทําการวัด 2 ครั้งโดยผู้ทําการศึกษาคนละครั้งซึ่งแต่ละครั้งวัด 3 จุด คือจุดที่คาดว่า เป็นกึ่งกลางของฟันที่หายไปกับระยะหน้าและหลังต่อจุดนี้ 2 มิลลิเมตรหาค่าเฉลี่ยความกว้างแล้วหักออกด้วยความ หนาเฉลี่ยของเนื้อเยื่ออ่อนที่ปกคลุมในแต่ละบริเวณซึ่งดัดแปลงมาจากรายงานที่มีการศึกษาก่อนหน้านี้ พบว่าความ กว้างเฉลี่ยของสันกระดูกขากรรไกรว่างที่ระดับ 3, 5 และ 7 มิลลิเมตรในแต่ละบริเวณมีค่าดังนี้ ฟันหน้าบนมีค่า 5.05± 1.35, 5.02 ±1.45 และ 6.76±1.51 มิลลิเมตร ฟันหลังบนขวามีค่า 7.30 ± 2.27, 8.80 ± 2.40 และ 10.03 ± 2.42 มิลลิเมตร ฟันหลังบนซ้ายมีค่า 6.98 ±1.93, 8.10 ±2.24 และ 8.68 ±2.48 มิลลิเมตร ฟันหน้าล่างมีค่า 4.54 ±1.46, 5.70±0.70 และ 5.97 ±0.19 มิลลิเมตร พื้นหลังล่างขวามีค่า 7.10 ±1.87, 8.01±1.78 และ 8.76 ±1.61 มิลลิเมตรและฟันหลังล่างซ้ายมีค่า 6.45 ±1.66, 7.32±1.68 และ 8.18±1.77 มิลลิเมตร ตามลําดับ เมื่อนาข้อมูลมาวิเคราะห์ทางสถิติโดยใช้ two-way ANOVA พบว่าไม่มีความแตกต่างอย่างมี …

วัตถุประสงค์ การวิจัยนี้มีวัตถุประสงค์เพื่อศึกษาทัศนคติของประชาชนกลุ่มหนึ่งในกรุงเทพมหานครที่มีต่อทันตแพทย์ และประเมินปัจจัยต่าง ๆ ที่มีผลกระทบต่อภาพลักษณ์ของทันตแพทย์ วัสดุและวิธีการ ทําการเก็บข้อมูลโดยส่งแบบสอบถามให้แก่กลุ่มตัวอย่างซึ่งเป็นผู้ปกครองของนักเรียนชั้นประถม- ศึกษาปีที่ 1 - 4 โรงเรียนวัดพลับพลาชัยจํานวน 849 คน ภาพลักษณ์ทันตแพทย์ถูกวัดจากข้อความ 25 รายการ จําแนกออกเป็นมิติย่อย 4 ด้าน คือ ด้านการติดต่อสื่อสารระหว่างทันตแพทย์และผู้ป่วย ด้านบุคลิกภาพของทันตแพทย์ ด้านทักษะความชํานาญของทันตแพทย์ และด้านระบบการบริการ / ค่าใช้จ่ายในการรักษา ทําการวิเคราะห์หาความ สัมพันธ์ระหว่างภาพลักษณ์ทันตแพทย์กับปัจจัยต่าง ๆ ด้วยการทดสอบสมมุติฐานแบบนั้นพาราเมตริก ผลการศึกษา กลุ่มตัวอย่างผู้ปกครองของนักเรียนชั้นประถมศึกษา มีทัศนคติในเชิงบวกต่อทันตแพทย์ และให้ น้ําหนักความสําคัญแก่มิติทางด้านทักษะความชํานาญ ด้านบุคลิกลักษณะของทันตแพทย์ และด้านการติดต่อสื่อสาร ระหว่างทันตแพทย์และผู้ป่วยอยู่ในระดับพอประมาณใกล้เคียงกัน การศึกษานี้พบว่ามีปัจจัยหลายประการที่มีความ สัมพันธ์กับภาพลักษณ์ทันตแพทย์โดยรวมหรือในมิติย่อย ได้แก่ เพศ อายุ ระดับการศึกษาของผู้ตอบแบบสอบถาม ตลอดรวมถึงระยะเวลานับตั้งแต่การไปพบทันตแพทย์ครั้งสุดท้าย นอกจากนี้ ยังพบว่ากลุ่มตัวอย่างที่ใช้บริการ ทันตกรรมในสถานพยาบาลเอกชนมีทัศนคติต่อทันตแพทย์ค่อนในทางบวกมากกว่ากลุ่มที่ใช้บริการในสถานพยาบาลของรัฐ (p = 0.014) สรุป ประชาชนเขตเมืองในปัจจุบันมีทัศนคติในทางที่ดีต่อทันตแพทย์ ทัศนคตินี้ถูกกําหนดโดยปัจจัยทางเศรษฐกิจและสังคมเป็นหลัก และมีความเกี่ยวข้องกับพฤติกรรมการใช้บริการทันตกรรมของประชาชน

ความชุกของฟันเดนส์ อีแวจิเนทัสในเด็กไทยกลุ่มหนึ่ง ในกรุงเทพมหานคร, ศิวพร สุขอร่าม

วัตถุประสงค์ เพื่อรายงานความชุกของฟันเดนส์ อีแวจิเนทัสในฟันกรามน้อย อายุที่สามารถตรวจพบได้ตั้งแต่แรก เริ่ม ความสัมพันธ์ระหว่างอายุกับการสึกของปุ่มนูนและระหว่างความชุกของฟันที่มีเตนส์ แวจิเนสในฟันกรามน้อยกับเพศ วัสดุและวิธีการเก็บข้อมูลจากเด็กนักเรียนชั้นมัธยมศึกษาปีที่ 1-3 ของโรงเรียนราชวินิตบางแคปานขํา เขตบางแค กรุงเทพมหานคร รวมทั้งสิ้น 1,141 คน โดยการตรวจฟันกรามน้อยและบันทึกข้อมูลสถานะของฟันกรามน้อย นําข้อมูลที่ได้มาวิเคราะห์ทางสถิติ โดยใช้โปรแกรมสําเร็จรูป SPSS for windows ที่ระดับนัยสําคัญ 0.05 ผลการศึกษา ความชุกของฟันเดนส์ แวจีเนทัสในฟันกรามน้อยในเด็กมัธยมศึกษาตอนต้นจํานวน 1,141 คน พบเด็กนักเรียนที่มีฟันเดนส์ แวจิเนส จํานวน 21 คน เท่ากับ ร้อยละ 1.8 พบในฟันกรามน้อยล่างมากกว่าฟัน กรามน้อยบน ฟันล่างพบในฟันกรามน้อยที่ 2 มากกว่าฟันกรามน้อยที่ 1 ส่วนฟันบนพบในฟันกรามน้อยที่ 1 มากกว่าฟันกรามน้อย 2 พบตําแหน่งของปุ่มนูนที่ร่องกลางฟันมากกว่าบนสันด้านลิ้น ปุ่มนูนส่วนใหญ่มีการสึก ไม่เผยพึ่งถึงเนื้อเยื่อฟัน เพศชายกับเพศหญิงไม่มีความแตกต่างอย่างมีนัยสําคัญ พบในชั้นมัธยมศึกษาปีที่ 1 มาก ที่สุดโดยที่ในช่วงอายุ 11-12 ปี มากกว่าช่วง 13-17 ปี อย่างมีนัยสําคัญ (P = 0.004) สรุป ช่วงเวลาที่เหมาะสมในการจัดการดูแลฟันเดนส์ อีแวจิเนทัสในฟันกรามน้อยควรเป็นอายุ 12 ปี เพื่อเป็นการป้องกันพยาธิสภาพที่จะเกิดขึ้นตามมาจากการที่ปุ่มนูนของฟันที่มีความผิดปกตินี้สึกหรือหักอันอาจนํามาซึ่งรอยโรครอบปลายรากฟัน ทันตแพทย์จึงควรเข้าไปตรวจ ติดตามดูแลตั้งแต่ยังไม่ปรากฏอาการและทําการป้องกันใน ช่วงอายุที่ฟันกรามน้อยเพิ่งเริ่มขึ้น
