Proposed regulations for alcohol advertising prevent beverage companies from targeting people under the legal drinking age. However, similar regulations for alcohol alternative beverages are less explored, which could allow alcohol alternative products to create awareness for alcoholic beverages among youth. Alcohol alternatives beverages, including no-alcohol and low-alcohol products, are increasing in popularity and can function as compliments to alcoholic products to decrease the total alcohol volume consumed or as substitutes for alcoholic products. BACKGROUND: Oxytocin (OXT) has been used as a post-treatment for post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). Previous research suggests that pre-treatment of intranasal OXT attenuates signs of fear in rats; however, the impact of intraperitoneal (i.p) OXT pre-treatment on signs of fear in rats is unknown. Myotonic dystrophy type 1 (DM1) is a multisystemic disorder caused by the expression of expanded CUG (CUG^exp) repeat RNA from the myotonic dystrophy protein kinase (DMPK) gene. This CUG^exp repeat RNA’s gain-of-function mechanism leads to the sequestration of muscleblind-like (MBNL) proteins, resulting in widespread alternative splicing dysregulation across tissues. Despite significant research, there are currently no approved therapeutics targeting the underlying causes of DM1. Emerging evidence finds similar cardiovascular risks resulting from electronic cigarettes (E-cig) as that seen from smoking. Logically, the time or length of exposure to E-cigs will likely influence the development of vascular dysfunction, however, the length of exposure that causes permanent damage is unknown. Despite the high mortality rate involved with invasive cerebral mycoses, there is a relative lack of research available around antifungals capable of crossing the blood brain barrier.

In this study the metabolites of four plants (Crocus vernus, Miniature Narcissus (daffodil), Osmanthus delavayi and Taraxacum officinale (common dandelion)) and two bacteria (Lacticaseibacillus paracasei and Staphylococcus epidermidis) were extracted and assayed for antifungal activity against Candida albicans and Saccharomyces cerevisiae. Thin layer chromatography and bioautography were then employed to assess the activity of the constituent components of sources showing antifungal activity.

Purpose: To determine perspectives towards opioid use, knowledge on managing an opioid overdose, and awareness towards individuals who use opioids of Indiana physical therapy (PT) professionals. Methods: An online questionnaire was disseminated to PT professionals in Indiana from various practice settings. This questionnaire included two standardized measures, the Opioid Overdose Knowledge Scale (OOKS) and the Opioid Overdose Attitude Scale (OOAS). An additional 12 questions regarding the role of PT and other groups in the opioid crisis as well as opioid education were included. Background: Leukocytosis relates to infections, malignancies, stress response, and multiple intoxicants. Like other intoxicants, cannabis smoking can result in a persistent leukocytosis. Here we report a case of cannabis-induced leukocytosis.

Case Presentation: A 20-year-old Hispanic female with a history of anxiety disorder presented with 3-days of nausea, vomiting, and colicky abdominal pain. She endorsed heavy marijuana smoking as self-medication and compulsive hot showers for symptom relief. She was admitted for oral intake intolerance, concerning for cannabis hyperemesis syndrome. BACKGROUND: The etiology of autism spectrum (ASD) and Attention Deficit/Hyperactivity (ADHD) disorders are multifactorial. Epidemiological studies have shown associations with environmental pollutants, such as plasticizers. This study focused on two of these compounds, the Bisphenol-A (BPA) and Diethylhexyl Phthalate (DEHP). The major pathway for BPA and DEHP excretion is via glucuronidation. Glucuronidation makes insoluble substances more water-soluble allowing for their subsequent elimination in urine.

HYPOTHESIS: Detoxification of these two plasticizers is compromised in children with ASD and ADHD. Consequently, their tissues are more exposed to these two plasticizers.

Chronic smoking is a primary risk factor for breast cancer due to the presence of various toxins and carcinogens within tobacco products. Nicotine is the primary addictive component of tobacco products and has been shown to promote breast cancer cell proliferation and metastases. Nicotine activates nicotinic acetylcholine receptors (nAChRs) that are expressed in cancer cell lines. Here, we examine the role of the α7 nAChR in coupling to heterotrimeric G proteins within breast cancer MCF-7 cells. Evidence supports unequal burdens of chemical exposures from personal care products (PCPs) among some groups, namely femme-identifying and racial and ethnic minorities. In this study, we implemented an online questionnaire to assess PCP purchasing and usage behaviors and perceptions of use among a sample of US adults recruited at a Northeastern university. One in 8 women will develop breast cancer in their lifetime. Yet, the burden of disease is greater in Black women. Black women have a 40% higher mortality rate than White women, and a higher incidence of breast cancer at age 40 and younger. The dangers of marijuana use are well documented across most body systems. We report a 27-year-old male who ingested marijuana and then experienced an ST-elevation myocardial infarction, subsequent cerebrovascular accident, and death within the span of a week. Toxicology reports were positive for THC only, echocardiography revealed diffuse hypokinesis with an ejection fraction estimated at 15-20%, and troponins peaked at greater than 270,000 pg/mL. Due to decreased Glasgow Coma Score and hemodynamic instability, the patient was not taken for cardiac catheterization, but was subsequently sedated, intubated, and placed on pressor support in the ICU. Reversed phase high performance liquid chromatography combined with photodiode array (HPLC-PDA) detector method was developed for simultaneous determination of two binary antihypertensive combinations; either Nebivolol (NEB) with Hydrochlorothiazide (HCZ) or with Valsartan (VAL) in pharmaceutical formulation and spiked human plasma. The method was successfully applied to separate the three drugs on one chromatogram under the same chromatographic conditions that used for two binary combinations.
