Cardiovascular health in firefighters is not only important for immediate job performance but also for long-term health. The purpose of this capstone project was to develop and provide an informational and evidence-based resource for parents to utilize after discharge from the Shawn Jenkins Children’s Hospital (SJCH) Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU). An in-depth needs assessment showed a need for increased parental support and better resources to improve parent mental health outcomes due to feelings of unpreparedness following a NICU stay. This program targeted five key SEL skills: Self-Awareness, Self-Management, Social-Awareness, Relationship Skills, and Responsible Decision-Making. The study aimed to improve students' occupational performance and self-perceived skill sets while also expanding knowledge on the role of OT with a psychosocial emphasis. Metabolic syndrome is increasing in prevalence in the United States. To be diagnosed, three of the five diagnostic criteria must be met. There is a higher risk of metabolic syndrome due to lifestyle and social factors, with increased criteria occurring as an individual has unmet social determinants of health. This quantitative quasi-experimental/quasi-comparative study examined the association between education level, with sleep quality and depression as moderators, on a diagnosis of metabolic syndrome with all five criteria versus three criteria using a binary logistic regression while controlling for age, race, gender, income, employment, and marital status. The emergency department (ED) plays a critical role in addressing a wide range of healthcare needs and can be the first point of contact for individuals with opioid use disorder (OUD). Buprenorphine, a partial opioid agonist, is a medication that helps treat OUD. On January 12, 2023, federal changes removed a major barrier, allowing all clinicians to prescribe buprenorphine. Later in 2023, a Medications for Opioid Use Disorder (MOUD) program was implemented in a high-volume free-standing ED. We aimed to review the impact of these changes on buprenorphine administration.

Purpose: To assess survivor and parent perceptions of the long-term survivor visit and preferences regarding accessing health information, survivorship education, and support networks in rural and metropolitan regions of Texas.

Methods: Leveraging the multi-institutional Survivorship and Access to Care for Latinos to Understand Disparities (SALUD) cohort, we administered a 26-item bilingual survey to adult survivors of childhood cancer and parents of younger survivors. Characteristics and responses were compared between survivors vs. parents and Latinos vs. non-Latinos using a t test or Fisher exact test. Odds ratios for the outcomes of interest were calculated with 95% confidence intervals.

Little is known about how students in rehabilitation sciences accept and use generative artificial intelligence (GenAI) in their educational endeavors. We explored student perceptions, acceptance, and utilization of GenAI in school and their beliefs about its usefulness and ease of use. A cross-sectional online survey was conducted of adult students enrolled in rehabilitation sciences programs within a private urban academic university.
