Sports-Injury Recovery Through Psychological Interventions, Harley T. Hamilton
Intuition: The BYU Undergraduate Journal of Psychology
The biomechanics of an injury is the typical focus of athletic trainers and coaches. Surgery is often the result of sports injury and is routinely followed by a rehabilitation plan. This plan usually includes physical therapy and focuses on the return of mobility and function of the injured anatomical structure (Rodriguez et al., 2019). Athletic trainers are usually not properly trained on the psychological aspects of injury recovery (Bennett et al., 2016). Sometimes the involvement of a sports medicine professional (SMP) or sport psychology consultant (SPC) is necessary to help the athlete fully recover. Because there is a psychological change …

Because there is no effective treatment for late-stage prostate cancer (PCa) at this moment, identifying novel targets for therapy of advanced PCa is urgently needed. A new network-based systems biology approach, XDeath, is developed to detect crosstalk of signaling pathways associated with PCa progression. This unique integrated network merges gene causal regulation networks and protein-protein interactions to identify novel co-targets for PCa treatment. The results show that polo-like kinase 1 (Plk1) and DNA methyltransferase 3A (DNMT3a)-related signaling pathways are robustly enhanced during PCa progression and together they regulate autophagy as a common death mode. Mechanistically, it is shown that Plk1 …
Effect Of Serine-Dipeptide Bacterial Lipid Treatment On Gene Expression In Hepg2 Liver Cells, Shaharia Ferdus
Effect Of Serine-Dipeptide Bacterial Lipid Treatment On Gene Expression In Hepg2 Liver Cells, Shaharia Ferdus
Honors Scholar Theses
While greater abundances of Bacteroidetes are associated with better health outcomes, this phylum is a major producer of serine-dipeptide lipids, which are thought to promote inflammation via Tolllike receptor (TLR) stimulation. Lipid 654 (L-654) is one class of serine-dipeptide lipids that has been isolated from arterial plaques and is thought to contribute to atherogenesis. Recent evidence shows that not only does long-term L-654 exposure attenuate atherosclerosis, it also significantly reduces hepatic lipid levels and markers of inflammation in mice. To better understand the impact on the human liver, L-654 was administered to HepG2 hepatocytes at concentrations of 0.5 μg/mL or …

Hypergraph Models Of Biological Networks To Identify Genes Critical To Pathogenic Viral Response, Song Feng, Larissa B Thackray, Qing Tan, Michael S Diamond, Et Al
2020-Current year OA Pubs
BACKGROUND: Representing biological networks as graphs is a powerful approach to reveal underlying patterns, signatures, and critical components from high-throughput biomolecular data. However, graphs do not natively capture the multi-way relationships present among genes and proteins in biological systems. Hypergraphs are generalizations of graphs that naturally model multi-way relationships and have shown promise in modeling systems such as protein complexes and metabolic reactions. In this paper we seek to understand how hypergraphs can more faithfully identify, and potentially predict, important genes based on complex relationships inferred from genomic expression data sets.
RESULTS: We compiled a novel data set of transcriptional …
