Systematic Review Protocol Examining The Effect Of Prefeeding Oromotor Stimulation On Preterm Neonate’S Feeding Outcomes, Suvarshi Sasmal, Asha P. Shetty
Manipal Journal of Nursing and Health Sciences
Introduction: Feeding difficulty is a common problem among preterm babies as sucking-swallowing and breathing coordination matures by 32-34 weeks of postmenstrual age. There is a growing consensus among healthcare providers worldwide that oromotor stimulation influences feeding outcomes of preterm babies, but limited evidence influences its clinical applicability. Objectives: To critically appraise the available evidence on the effect of prefeeding oromotor stimulation (OMS) on preterm neonate’s feeding outcomes. Methods and analysis: This review will include only randomized controlled trials (RCTs). Electronic databases will be searched from January 2000 to December 2019. Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses guidelines (PRISMA) …

Journal of the Saudi Heart Association
Introduction and Objectives: Frailty has been studied extensively in elderly population as a predictor and prognostic marker for morbidity and mortality. Frailty is being increasingly recognised as a distinct pathophysiological condition which plays a major role in outcomes of various disease states including heart failure. Our aim was to study the prevalence of frailty in heart failure and see its prognostic significance in such patients. Methods: This was a prospective study conducted in an out-patient HF clinic. All consecutive patients with HF, > 25 years age, with LVEF < 40 % were included. All patients were asked a simple frailty questionnaire. Hand-dynamometer was used to assess handgrip strength in kilograms and were classified as frail, pre-frail or non-frail. The primary end point was cardiovascular mortality and hospitalization, and secondary end-point was composite of all cause mortality, hospitalization, device implantation and documented arrythmia. Results: 210 patients were studied for clinical outcomes.Mean age was 60.59+ 11.55 years with 15 % patients aged less than 50 years. Mean LVEF was 30.24+ 6.8%. Handgrip strength was poor in the frail vs non/pre-frail patients (p=0.001) with a strength >16.95 kg having sensitivity of 72% and specificity of 63% for the prediction …

The endothelial cells which form the inner cellular lining of the vasculature can act as non-professional phagocytes to ingest and remove emboli and aged/injured red blood cells (RBCs) from circulation. We previously demonstrated an erythrophagocytic phenotype of the brain endothelium for oxidatively stressed RBCs with subsequent migration of iron-rich RBCs and RBC degradation products across the brain endothelium in vivo and in vitro, in the absence of brain endothelium disruption. However, the mechanisms contributing to brain endothelial erythrophagocytosis are not well defined, and herein we elucidate the cellular mechanisms underlying brain endothelial erythrophagocytosis. Murine brain microvascular endothelial cells (bEnd.3 …

Background: Many states in the United States (US) have introduced barriers to impede voting among individuals from socio-economically disadvantaged groups. This may reduce representation thereby decreasing access to lifesaving goods, such as health insurance. Methods: We used cross-sectional data from 242,727 adults in the 50 states and District of Columbia participating in the US 2017 Behavioral Risk Factor Surveillance System (BRFSS). To quantify access to voting, the Cost of Voting Index (COVI), a global measure of barriers to voting within a state during a US election was used. Multilevel modeling was used to determine whether barriers to voting were associated …

We seek the development and evaluation of a fast, accurate, and consistent method for general-purpose segmentation, based on interactive machine learning (IML). To validate our method, we identified retrospective cohorts of 20 brain, 50 breast, and 50 lung cancer patients, as well as 20 spleen scans, with corresponding ground truth annotations. Utilizing very brief user training annotations and the adaptive geodesic distance transform, an ensemble of SVMs is trained, providing a patient-specific model applied to the whole image. Two experts segmented each cohort twice with our method and twice manually. The IML method was faster than manual annotation by 53.1% …

The University of Louisville Journal of Respiratory Infections
A patient with respiratory syncytial virus-induced Guillain–Barré Syndrome and acute disseminated encephalomyelitis is presented. This virus is the most common cause of upper respiratory infections, and it can become an etiology for extra-pulmonary pathology with serious complications. Such a case is rare, but the possibility of adverse comorbidities makes early diagnosis and treatment important.

Effects Of Dialectical Behavior Therapy On Body Modification In Borderline Personality Disorder, Tyler Godek
Yale School of Medicine Physician Associate Program Theses
Borderline Personality Disorder is a mood disorder characterized by emotional dysregulation, increased impulsivity, and increased self-harm. Recently, a positive correlation has been made relating number of body modifications (such as piercings, tattoos, and scarification) and severity of disease. Dialectical Behavior Therapy is the first-line treatment for Borderline Personality Disorder and has been found to significantly reduce engagement in another form of self-harming behavior (non-suicidal self-injury). However, the effects of Dialectical Behavior Therapy on body modification are not understood. In this randomized control study, we will compare the effects of Dialectical Behavior Therapy, pharmacotherapy, or non-treatment on the number of body …
