Distinguishing Originality From Creativity In Adhd: An Assessment Of Creative Personality, Self-Perception, And Cognitive Style Among Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder Adults, Jean-Pierre J. Issa
Distinguishing Originality From Creativity In Adhd: An Assessment Of Creative Personality, Self-Perception, And Cognitive Style Among Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder Adults, Jean-Pierre J. Issa
Creative Studies Graduate Student Master's Theses
Debates over whether Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) relates to high levels of creativity have been hampered by a lack of rigor when defining creativity. The purpose of the present study was to go beyond the rhetoric by empirically investigating creative personality, creative self-perception, and cognitive style among 49 ADHD adults. Comparative analysis to studies of non-ADHD samples revealed distinctive tendencies: A mean group score of 115.71 (SD=18.02) on the Kirton Adaption-Innovation Inventory (KAI) indicated preferences for originality, nonconformity, paradigm-breaking, and low efficiency that was over one standard deviation higher than average non-ADHD population scores. Combined inattentive/hyperactiveimpulsive subtypes (n …
Osteomyelitis Associated With Nocardiopsis Composta In A Dog, Elisa N. Salas, Debra Royal, Lance Kurz, J. Dustin Loy
Osteomyelitis Associated With Nocardiopsis Composta In A Dog, Elisa N. Salas, Debra Royal, Lance Kurz, J. Dustin Loy
School of Veterinary and Biomedical Sciences: Faculty Publications
Osteomyelitis can be caused by bacterial or fungal agents or may be idiopathic. Cocci, bacilli, and filamentous bacteria such as members of the Actinomycetes have all been determined to be causes of osteomyelitis. Differential diagnoses for Gram-positive filamentous rods in the family Actinomycetales causing osteomyelitis in the dog, include members of the more frequently encountered genera Nocardia and Actinomyces. Bacteria gain access to the bone via several routes but are most often associated with direct inoculation (such as percutaneous injuries, compound fractures, or secondary to foreign bodies such as surgical or other material including dirt and wood) and fracture …
A Comparison Study Of Diagnostic Outcomes Between The Music Therapy Assessment Tool For Awareness In Disorders Of Consciousness (Matadoc) And The Coma Recovery Scale-Revised (Crs-R), Caitlyn E. Bodine
Masters Theses
The purpose of this study was to explore preliminary external validation of a standardized music therapy assessment tool used in the detection of awareness with the DOC patient population with an external reference standard. Eight subjects were administered both the MATADOC and the CRS-R within five days of one another, and results were compared on the levels of overall diagnosis, analogous domain subscales, and intra-assessment relationships between individual domains and overall diagnosis. Results indicated a very strong level of agreement for overall diagnosis (rs = .85, p < .01), very strong relationships between the auditory and visual components of the two assessments (rs = .76, p < .05, and rs = .81, p < .05, respectively), and a strong, but non-significant relationship between arousal scores on the two assessments (r …
Clinical Efficacy Of Music Therapy In Addiction Counseling: A Systematic Review, Marissa Renee Rinehart
Clinical Efficacy Of Music Therapy In Addiction Counseling: A Systematic Review, Marissa Renee Rinehart
Masters Theses
A previous systematic review study by Mays, Clark, and Gordon in 2008 reviewed music therapy research to look into the clinical efficacy of music therapy and addiction counseling. Their research concluded that the present literature contained few articles that had quantitative evidence and the music therapy that was presented was not an independent therapy for treatment for patients with substance abuse. This systematic review sought to research literature within the past six years that studied the effects of music therapy on clients who were dealing with substance abuse to review the progress of music therapy research since the 2008 article …

Ubiquinol Reduces Muscle Wasting But Not Fatigue In Tumor-Bearing Mice, Yvonne Clark, Loren E. Wold, Laura A. Szalacha, Donna O. Mccarthy
College of Nursing Faculty Research and Publications
Purpose: Fatigue is the most common and distressing symptom reported by cancer patients during and after treatment. Tumor growth increases oxidative stress and cytokine production, which causes skeletal muscle wasting and cardiac dysfunction. The purpose of this study was to determine whether treatment with the antioxidant ubiquinol improves muscle mass, cardiac function, and behavioral measures of fatigue in tumor-bearing mice.
Method: Adult female mice were inoculated with colon26 tumor cells. Half the control and tumor-bearing mice were administered ubiquinol (500 mg/kg/day) in their drinking water. Voluntary wheel running (i.e., voluntary running activity [VRA]) and grip strength were measured at Days …
Personality And Relational Aggression In College Students: The Role Of Social Anxiety And Rejection Sensitivity, Daniel Locke Deason
Personality And Relational Aggression In College Students: The Role Of Social Anxiety And Rejection Sensitivity, Daniel Locke Deason
Master's Theses
Relational aggression involves the intentional infliction of harm via damaging one’s relationships or sense of belonging. Previous research suggests that relational aggression among children and early adolescents is correlated with social ostracism, poor psychological adjustment, anxiety, and depression in victims, and there is increasing evidence that many of these correlates apply to relational aggression among older adolescents and emerging adults. Efforts to identify predictors of relational aggression are underway; however, many variables which have been influential in understanding other forms of aggression have not yet been examined. The Five Factor Model (FFM) of personality is one example, as it has …

The Effect Of Activation Induced Cytidine Deaminase Phosphorylation And Herpes Virus Uracil Dna Glycosylase On Antibody Diversification, Marc Macaluso
Dissertations and Theses (Open Access)
Activation-induced cytidine deaminase (AID) is a mutagenic enzyme that is expressed in mammalian B-cells and initiates the antibody diversification processes of somatic hypermuntation (SHM) and isotype class switch recombination (CSR). AID is targeted to the immunoglobulin gene locus where it deaminates cytosines to generate uracil residues in DNA. This generates guanine-uracil (U:G) mismatch lesion which are recognized by uracil DNA glycosylase (UNG), a DNA repair enzyme that removes uracil from DNA and triggers downstream repair of the lesion. While UNG is a ubiquitously expressed DNA repair enzyme, its recognition and removal of AID introduced uracils is essential in both SHM …
Wingate Anaerobic Test Methods For Power-Trained Males Using Velotron, Nicolas W. Clark
Wingate Anaerobic Test Methods For Power-Trained Males Using Velotron, Nicolas W. Clark
All Graduate Plan B and other Reports, Spring 1920 to Spring 2023
The purpose of this study was to examine the effects of two methodologies (start method and sprocket size) of the Wingate Anaerobic Test (WAnT) on peak power (PP) and mean power (MP). Twenty power-trained males (24.6 ± 4.5 years; 25.4 ± 2.5 BMI) with the same exercise routine for the past 4 months performed, in a randomized order, four WAnT with different combinations of start method, flying (FLY) or stationary (STA), and front sprocket size, 62-tooth sprocket (S-62) or 85-tooth sprocket (S-85), using the Velotron Racermate®. The results showed main effects for start method (p < 0.001; ES 0.753) and sprocket size (p < 0.001; ES 0.69) for PP and MP, respectively. For PP, significantly (p < 0.001) higher mean differences were shown for both FLYs (14.4 w/kg) while MP showed significant (p < 0.01) increases for S-85 in combination with the FLY (10.9 W/kg) and for S-85 in combination with the STA (9.7 W/kg). Pearson correlation (r) revealed no significant relationship between same start methods, FLY (p > 0.05; r = 0.227) or …

Physical Activity As A Behavioral Treatment In Shr Rats: An Animal Model Of Adhd, Jessica A. Martinez
Theses and Dissertations - UTB/UTPA
Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) is a commonly diagnosed psychiatric disorder defined by inattentive, hyperactive, and/or impulsive behaviors, typically treated with medications. Physical activity has been investigated as a treatment for children with ADHD and provides the ability for the individual to use it as a lifetime treatment option. Animal models can control for many of the issues posed by using human subjects. This study investigates whether physical activity in the form of wheel running reduces hyperactivity in an animal model of ADHD, the Spontaneously Hypertensive Rats (SHR), compared to its control, Wistar Kyoto rat (WKY). Using an ABAB design, …
Theory Of Mind And Inhibitory Processing Among Bilingual Mexican American Young Children, Sarah E. Stegall
Theory Of Mind And Inhibitory Processing Among Bilingual Mexican American Young Children, Sarah E. Stegall
Theses and Dissertations - UTB/UTPA
Bilingual children have been found to demonstrate advantages on tasks dependent in part or in whole on inhibitory processing compared to their language dominant and/or monolingual peers. This study examines relations among performance on theory of mind (ToM), inhibitory processing (FF), and performance on an ambiguous-figures (AF) tasks among monolingual and bilingual children. Participants included 135 Hispanic children ages 4.5 to 8 from predominately low-income families. Results revealed a relationship between FF and AF performance with ToM performance and found no differences in performance between monolingual, language-dominant, and balanced-bilingual children.

Establishment Of A 3d Culture Model Of Gastric Stem Cells Supporting Their Differentiation Into Mucous Cells Using Microfibrous Polycaprolactone Scaffold, Sunitha Pulikkot
Dissertations
In the stomach, epithelial stem cells are responsible for glandular homeostasis and continuous production of four main cell lineages secreting mucus, acid, pepsinogen and hormones. While alteration in the proliferation and differentiation program of these stem cells is linked to the origin of gastric cancer, they represent an effective target for chemotherapy and a source for cell therapy or tissue engineering in cases of gastric mucosal damage or loss. The aims of this study were 1) to manufacture various forms of scaffolds using a biodegradable polymer (polycaprolactone), 2) to test the suitability of these scaffolds for growth of mouse gastric …

Abstract
Road Traffic Crash (RTC) is the eighth leading cause of death globally. In a recent World Health Organization report, there were 5,192 RTC deaths reported from Pakistan in 2010. The Road Traffic Injury Research and Prevention Center (RTIRPC) is a unique public-private public health enterprise in Karachi, and collects data from five major public and private hospitals' emergency departments in the city. Cumulatively, 1130 deaths were recorded in the year 2013. Males accounted for 981 (86.8%) deaths. The most vulnerable decades of life were twenties and thirties; accounting for 307 (27.2%) of all deaths. In terms of involvement of …

Surviving The Other War: Group Intervention For Military Sexual Trauma In The Local Church, Ed Ellis Barker
Doctoral Dissertations and Projects
Military Sexual Trauma (MST) is, together with the current military suicide epidemic, arguably the greatest danger to soldiers serving at home or abroad, and sadly the former is a contributing factor for the latter. MST involves the sexual assault or sexual harassment of an individual by one or several fellow service members. An important avenue of assistance is through the local church; however, "the quality of mental health providers does not include a sufficient number of faith-based counselors (especially Christian) to serve the predominantly Christian demographic in the U.S. Armed Forces." To assist in this, a psycho-educational support group has …

Using Screening And Assessment Evidence Of Trauma In Child Welfare Cases, Frank E. Vandervort
Using Screening And Assessment Evidence Of Trauma In Child Welfare Cases, Frank E. Vandervort
Articles
If you are a child welfare lawyer representing children, parents, or the child welfare agency, understanding how traumatic experiences may impact your clients will help you frame your advocacy. Understanding children and their parents’ histories of exposure to potentially traumatic life events and how those events have impacted the client’s functioning—in school, in interactions with other people, and as parents—can be critical to framing your approach in the case. Evidence of the client’s trauma history and any compromised functioning that may have resulted from that trauma is critical to integrate into your advocacy.

Investigation Of The Role Of The Scaffold Protein Shc In Erk Signaling, Kin Man Suen
Dissertations and Theses (Open Access)
Cells respond to environmental changes by converting extracellular signals into intracellular events. Scaffolding proteins play important roles in generating specificity in intracellular signaling through the combinatorial use of protein domains and posttranslational modifications. Using the scaffold Shc (Src-homology collagen-like) as a model system, we explored novel mechanisms whereby this class of protein shapes signaling output. In the present work, we focused on the role of Shc in the MAP kinase Erk signaling both prior to and post-growth factor stimulation. Prior to growth factor stimulation, we found Erk to be a direct interacting partner of Shc. The two proteins associate through …

The lymphatic system is essential for the transport of excess fluid, protein, and foreign materials from interstitial tissues to lymph nodes; for immune surveillance, and to maintain fluid homeostasis. Dysregulated lymphatics can be attributed to pathological conditions including tumor metastasis, inflammation, chronic wounds, obesity, blood vascular disorders, and lymphedema. Of these, lymphedema is the most extreme of lymphatic disorders and is represented by a spectrum of symptoms ranging from mild, subtle presentation to severe, disfiguring, overt presentation. Lymphedema is more manageable in the early stages of disease but severely reduces quality of life with progression. Due to lack of molecular …

Characterization Of The Roles Of Carma3 And Bcl10 In Virus-Triggered Rig-I/Mavs Signaling Pathway, Zhicheng Zhou Mr
Dissertations and Theses (Open Access)
After RNA virus infection, the innate immunity utilizes RIG-I family of receptors in the cytoplasm to initiate the production of type-I IFNs and proinflammatory cytokines by mitochondrial protein MAVS, which forms a prion-like structure to recruit TBK1and IKK complex to activate IRF3 and NF-κB, respectively. Herein, we revealed the important roles of CARMA3 and BCL10 in RIG-I/MAVS signaling pathway for the first time. CARMA3 or BCL10 deficient cells exhibited partially defective NF-κB activation but hyperactivation of TBK1-IRF3 signaling pathway upon ssRNA virus infection. It led to less production of IL6 but more production of type I IFNs and resulted in …

Patients with metastatic melanoma have a poor prognosis due to resistance to conventional therapies. Thus, new targeted treatment strategies are required to improve therapeutic outcome. One prospective approach is to infuse T cells that are rendered specific for tumor-associated antigens (TAAs) preferentially expressed on melanoma cells. Recognition of cell-surface TAAs independent of major histocompatibility complex can be achieved by introducing a TAA-specific chimeric antigen receptor (CAR) on T cells using gene therapy. This approach is being used in clinical trials to adoptively transfer CD19-specific CAR+ T cells in patients with B-lineage malignancies. To generate T-cell therapy for melanoma we …

Nfat1 Contributes To Melanoma Tumor Growth And Metastasis By Regulating Il-8 And Mmp-3, Einav Shoshan
Dissertations and Theses (Open Access)
Studies from our laboratory have recently demonstrated that Gal-3 regulates autotaxin through NFAT1 and support melanoma progression. These findings prompted us to further study the role of NFAT1 in melanoma progression and metastasis. NFAT1 is a transcription factor that was first identified in immune cells, acting as a positive regulator of interleukin-2 by binding to its promoter during T cell activation. NFAT1 has an important role in the innate and adaptive immune response. In this dissertation I studied the mechanisms by which NFAT1 contributes to the acquisition of the melanoma metastatic phenotype.
To identify the role of NFAT1 in melanoma …

Elucidating The Role Of Rumi And O-Glucosylation In The Drosophila Eye, Amanda Haltom
Dissertations and Theses (Open Access)
Rumi is a protein O-glucosyltransferase that adds the sugar O-glucose onto the serine in the target sequence C-S-X-S-(P/A)-C found within properly folded EGF repeats. It was first discovered to modify the Drosophila Notch extracellular domain and to be required for Notch signaling in a temperature dependent manner, but other targets of Rumi remained unknown. Several other proteins in the Drosophila proteome harbor multiple consensus sequence highly predictive of O-glucose, including the transmembrane protein Crumbs and the secreted protein Eyes shut (Eys). Both of these proteins are required for proper eye development and mutations in their human homologs …
Dna Polymerase Θ (Polq) And The Cellular Defense Against Dna Damage, Matthew J. Yousefzadeh
Dna Polymerase Θ (Polq) And The Cellular Defense Against Dna Damage, Matthew J. Yousefzadeh
Dissertations and Theses (Open Access)
In mammalian cells, DNA polymerase θ (POLQ) is an unusual specialized DNA polymerase whose in vivo function is under active investigation. The protein is comprised of an N-terminal helicase-like domain, a C-terminal DNA polymerase domain, and a large central domain that spans between the two. This arrangement is also found in the Drosophila Mus308 protein, which helps confer resistance to DNA interstrand crosslinking agents. Homologs of POLQ and Mus308 are found in eukaryotes, including plants, but a comparison of phenotypes suggests that not all of these genes are functional orthologs. Flies with defective Mus308 are sensitive to DNA interstrand crosslinking …
