Purpose: The purpose of this study was to explore older urological patients’ perceptions and clinical nurses’ assessments of discharge readiness. In addition, this study examined the difference among older urological patients’ perceptions and clinical nurses’ assessments of discharge readiness.

Design: A descriptive, comparative, cross-sectional design was used.

Methods: Convenience samples of older urological patients and clinical nurses were recruited from three surgical units. Data were collected using The Patient Readiness for Hospital Discharge and Nurse Readiness for Hospital Discharge questionnaires.

Race to the Top mandates, much like other comprehensive reforms before, focuses on teacher quality and student outcomes. Measuring teacher quality, under Race to the Top reforms, remains a subject of uncertainty, particularly measuring for improvement. This article argues that a central purpose of classroom evaluation is to provide supportive, targeted feedback by differentiating teachers as learners. Drago-Severson and Mezirow offer a framework for adult learning that overlays this theoretical analysis. The three cases explored for this article demonstrate levels of adult learning among teachers, directing the novice to addressing the fully formed transformational learner. It has previously been suggested that the tumor microenvironment in diffuse large B-cell lymphoma (DLBCL) has prognostic significance. Furthermore, gene expression profiling in DLBCL patients has identified separate subsets with glycolytic and mitochondrial (oxidative phosphorylative) metabolic signatures.

Glycolytic metabolism forms the basis for FDG PET scans, widely used in staging and response assessment in DLBCL. Both epidemiological and experimental studies suggest that ethanol may enhance aggressiveness of breast cancer. We have previously demonstrated that short term exposure to ethanol (12–48 hours) increased migration/invasion in breast cancer cells overexpressing ErbB2, but not in breast cancer cells with low expression of ErbB2, such as MCF7, BT20 and T47D breast cancer cells. In this study, we showed that chronic ethanol exposure transformed breast cancer cells that were not responsive to short term ethanol treatment to a more aggressive phenotype. BACKGROUND: Idiopathic retinal vasculitis, aneurysms, and neuroretinitis (IRVAN) syndrome presents with characteristic clinical manifestations such as aneurysms at arteriolar bifurcations and optic nerve and retinal vascular inflammation. Regression of such features on treatment with anti-tubercular therapy (ATT) combined with corticosteroids has not been reported in literature.

FINDINGS: A 30-year-old female with sudden painless decreased vision in the left eye was referred with a diagnosis of presumed tuberculous retinal vasculitis and a positive tuberculin skin test. Predicting seizure outcome (SO) after anterior temporal lobectomy (ATL) is a major clinical goal. With clear evidence that even focal epilepsies disrupt large scale brain networks, resting-state functional connectivity (FC) methods have been increasingly used on a pre-surgical basis to characterize the impact of seizures on brain activity. In this project, we sought to determine whether the functional integrity of resting-state networks (RSNs) prior to surgery can discriminate between patients who obtain good versus poor seizure control after ATL.

Telehealth has emerged as an important tool for healthcare providers. Telehealth concepts are not currently taught in many nursing courses.

Purpose

Introduce telehealth concepts to pre-licensure nursing students via a learning module and to test its effectiveness using pre and post-tests.

Method

A two-tailed t test used to analyze the difference between the pre and post-test scores supported the research question: “Is the use of a new telehealth learning module effective in teaching pre-licensure nursing students about telehealth?”

Multiple regression analysis demonstrated that demographic variables had no influence on the outcome of either test.

The communication of patient information through use of handoff ensures continuity of care and patient safety. A study of hand-off reports between pre-hospital personnel and staff in the emergency department revealed a lack of complete or formal information dialogue. Nurses play a vital role in the process of communication and information exchange through the use of handoff despite minimal guidelines for that exchange in current nursing practice. The pre-hospital hand-off informational exchange impacts patient safety as well as the planning and implementation of nursing care based upon that information.
