Hypogonadotropic hypogonadism is a production failure of gonadal hormones due to a lack of gonadotropin secretion. Here, we aimed to determine the prevalence of genomic rearrangements in the KAL1, FGFR1, GPR54, and NELF genes in patients diagnosed with hypogonadotropic hypogonadism. Materials and methods: The study included 86 male patients with idiopathic hypogonadotropic hypogonadism (76 diagnosed with normosmic idiopathic hypogonadotropic hypogonadism and 10 with Kallmann syndrome). Several methods can be used to detect gene mutations associated with \beta-thalassemia, but it is difficult to achieve reliable and reproducible results. In this study, we introduce a new method, a single-tube multiplex polymerase chain reaction (PCR) assay, to detect both CD17 (A>T) and IVS-II nt-654 (C>T) homozygous mutations. Materials and methods: This new method designs specific primers to diagnose homozygous mutations and normal controls. Materials and methods: Clinical research was conducted at the Neurosurgery Clinic of the Erciyes University School of Medicine, from September 2003 to April 2007, on 37 patients diagnosed with MA after tumor resection subsequent to craniotomy. To investigate the effect of carbonyl cyanide 3-chlorophenylhydrazone (CCCP) on mitochondrial elimination in C2C12 skeletal muscle cells. Materials and methods: C2C12 muscle cells stably expressing Mito-DsRed were treated with DMSO or CCCP at the doses of 10, 20, and 30 µM for 3, 6, and 24 h. After specific treatments, cells were fixed in 4% paraformaldehyde and immunocytochemistry assays were performed using appropriate antibodies to evaluate mitochondrial morphology and autophagosome formation. To investigate serum levels of ghrelin in pregnant women as a potential early marker for hyperemesis gravidarum (HG). Materials and methods: A cross-sectional study was carried out at Fatih University Hospital. Included in the study were 35 women with HG and 31 pregnant women without HG as a control group. The groups were compared in terms of age, gravidity, body mass index (BMI), and fasting serum thyroid-stimulating hormone (TSH) and ghrelin levels. Materials and methods: This study was conducted in the neurosurgery clinic of Erciyes University's Faculty of Medicine, lasting from February 2000 to September 2006. A total of 98 patients were diagnosed with GBM after tumor resections. This study investigates polyneuropathy in patients with unilateral diabetic foot ulcer by using electrophysiological methods and discusses whether electrophysiological parameters are predictive of diabetic foot ulcer development. Materials and methods: Fifty-two diabetic patients with unilateral diabetic foot ulcers (31 females, 21 males; mean age of 58.5 years) were included in the study. Alzheimer's disease (AD), the most common cause of dementia, is also associated with depression. Although the precise mechanisms that lead to depression in AD are unknown, the impairments in adult hippocampal neurogenesis observed in AD may play a role. Adult-born neurons play a critical role in regulating both cognition and mood, and reduced hippocampal neurogenesis is associated with depression in other neurological disorders. To assess the relationship between Alzheimer's disease, neurogenesis, and depression, we studied human amyloid precursor protein (hAPP) transgenic mice, a well-characterized model of AD. BACKGROUND: The high affinity tyrosine kinase receptor, TrkB, is the primary receptor for brain derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF) and plays an important role in development, maintenance and plasticity of the striatal output medium size spiny neuron. The striatal BDNF/TrkB system is thereby implicated in many physiologic and pathophysiologic processes, the latter including mood disorders, addiction, and Huntington's disease. We crossed a mouse harboring a transgene directing cre-recombinase expression primarily to postnatal, dorsal striatal medium spiny neurons, to a mouse containing a floxed TrkB allele (fB) mouse designed for deletion of TrkB to determine its role in the adult striatum.

Tracheal stenosis refers to a reduction in the size of the tracheal lumen and can be due to a myriad of reasons, but the most common remains trauma. In iatrogenic situations, internal trauma is the most likely culprit, resulting from prolonged intubation. Our case reviews a patient who developed severe tracheal stenosis (90% reduction in lumen size) within a month of a threeday- long intubation, and presented to the emergency room with dyspnea, orthopnea, and stridor. Background: Cardiovascular imaging studies generate a wealth of data which is typically used only for individual study endpoints. By pooling data from multiple sources, quantitative comparisons can be made of regional wall motion abnormalities between different cohorts, enabling reuse of valuable data. Atlas-based analysis provides precise quantification of shape and motion differences between disease groups and normal subjects. However, subtle shape differences may arise due to differences in imaging protocol between studies.

The present study examined people’s implicit and explicit perceptions of mental illness and compared those attitudes to ratings of fairness for psychiatric hospital policies. The sample consisted of 88 participants, from both Connecticut College and Amazon Mechanical Turk. Data were derived from a Hospital Policy Questionnaire created by the researcher, the Perceptions of Dangerousness of Mental Patients (PDMP) scale, as well as 2 Implicit Association Tests assessing General Attitudes and perceptions of Dangerousness. Results showed no significant association between implicit attitudes and judgments of hospital policies, nor between implicit perceptions of dangerousness and judgments of hospital policies.
