The President's Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR) is the most recent international social program instituted by the U.S. Government to combat HIV/AIDS. Since its inception in 2003, this foreign policy initiative has dedicated $63 billion for HIV/AIDS prevention and treatment in foreign countries. Despite PEPFAR's many accomplishments, it continues to promote controversial prevention strategies. This paper analyzes these prevention strategies, utilizing social work values as described in the NASW Code of Ethics. Policy, practice, and research implications are discussed.

p66Shc, a 66 kDa proto-oncogene Src homologous-collagen homologue (Shc) adaptor protein, is classically known in mediating receptor tyrosine kinase signaling and recently identified as a sensor to oxidative stress-induced apoptosis and as a longevity protein in mammals. The expression of p66Shc is decreased in mice and increased in human fibroblasts upon aging and in aging-related diseases, including prostate cancer. p66Shc protein level correlates with the proliferation of several carcinoma cells and can be regulated by steroid hormones. This case series evaluated the facial gingival stability following immediate tooth replacement in conjunction with subepithelial connective tissue graft in the esthetic zone. Implant success rate and peri-implant tissue response were also reported.

Ten patients (6 males, 4 females), with a mean age of 52.1 (range = 22.7 to 67.1) years, underwent immediate implant placement and provisionalization with SCTG and were evaluated clinically and radiographically at pre-surgery (T0), immediately after immediate tooth replacement and SCTG (T1), 3-months (T2), 6-months (T3), and 12-months (T4) after surgery. The Psychopathic Personality Inventory (PPI) is a self-report measure which was created to identify the personality traits of psychopathy in noncriminal populations. These personality traits were grouped into eight subscales in the PPI including Machiavellian Egocentricity, Social Potency, Coldheartedness, Carefree Nonplanfulness, Fearlessness, Blame Externalization, Impulsive Nonconformity and Stress Immunity. The hypothesized relationships and factor structure of this study follow the theory of psychopathy as being a disorder rooted in antisocial behaviors (often aggressive and impulsive in nature) and inappropriate emotional reactivity (characterized as a lack in empathy and anxiety). PURPOSE: Trauma to the digits often leaves soft tissue defects with exposed bone, joint, and/or tendon that require soft tissue replacement. The objective of this study was to evaluate the effectiveness of acellular dermal regeneration template combined with full-thickness skin grafting for soft tissue reconstruction in digital injuries with soft tissue defects.

METHODS: Acellular dermal regeneration template was used to reconstruct digital injuries with exposed bone, joint, tendon, and/or hardware not amenable to treatment with healing by secondary intention, rotation flaps, or primary skin grafts. โรคพาร์กินสัน เป็นโรคที่สมองมีการเสื่อม โดยมีการเสื่อมของเซลประสาทส่วนที่สร้างสารโดปามีนใน substantia nigra ของสมองส่วน basal ganglia จึงส่งผลให้ผู้ป่วยพาร์กินสันไม่สามารถควบคุมการเคลื่อนไหวของร่างกายได้ ผู้ป่วยจะมีอาการเคลื่อนไหวช้าหรือเคลื่อนไหวได้น้อย ร่วมกับอาการหนึ่งในสามอย่างดังนี้ ได้แก่ (1) การสั่นของมือ แขน ขา ขากรรไกร ใบหน้า (2) อาการแข็งเกร็งของแขนขาและลำตัว (3) มีการทรงตัวไม่มั่นคง นอกจากนี้ยังมีอาการของระบบประสาทอัตโนมัติการรับความรู้สึกเจ็บปวด การกลืน ลำไส้และกระเพาะปัสสาวะ ความรู้สึกทางเพศ อารมณ์ ที่ผิดปกติอีกด้วย ในปัจจุบันมีหลักฐานทางงานวิจัยและทางคลินิกชัดเจนแล้วว่าการรักษาทางเวชศาสตร์ฟื้นฟูมีส่วนช่วยให้ผู้ป่วยเดินและเคลื่อนไหวดีขึ้น การทรงตัวดีขึ้น ลดความเสี่ยงในการล้ม ประกอบกิจวัตรประจำวันได้มากขึ้น ทำให้คุณภาพชีวิตดีขึ้น.

Employment for people with serious and persistent mental illness (SPMI) is a complex issue impacted by numerous factors. Research studies have documented how integral employment is to recovery; nonetheless, employment rates among this population remain low. Additional studies have documented the barriers to achieving successful employment outcomes, yet resolving these barriers remains a compelling challenge. Compounding this, the national economic recession has brought unemployment rates to extremely high levels for everyone. Protein expression profiles in rat corporal smooth muscle tissue were compared between animal models of streptozotocin-induced diabetes mellitus (STZ-DM) and agematched controls (AMCs) at 1 week and 2 months after induction of hyperglycemia with STZ treatment. At each time point, protein samples from four STZ-DM and four AMC rat corpora tissues were prepared independently and analyzed together across multiple quantitative two-dimensional gels using a pooled internal standard sample to quantify expression changes with statistical confidence. Objective: We hypothesized that the drinking behavior of adolescents in China is influenced by expectancies and self-efficacy and that adolescents’ cultural orientation towards western versus traditional Chinese values influences expectancies, self-efficacy and drinking behavior, with western values leading to more dysfunctional patterns of beliefs and drinking, and that these beliefs are influenced by students’ gender and school environment. Methods: A total of 1020 high school students from Beijing completed the Chinese Adolescent Alcohol Expectancy, the Chinese Cultural Orientation and the Chinese Self-regulation Self-efficacy questionnaires. Adiponectin (APN) has traditionally been viewed as an adipocyte-specific endocrine molecule with cardioprotective effects. Recent studies suggest that APN is also expressed in cardiomyocytes. However, biological significances of this locally produced APN remain completely unknown. The aim of this study was to investigate the pathological and pharmacological significance of cardiac-derived APN in cardiomyocyte pathology. Adult cardiomyocytes from wild-type littermates (WT) or gene-deficient mice were pretreated with vehicle (V) or rosiglitazone (RSG) for 6 h followed by simulated ischemia-reperfusion (SI/R, 3 h/12 h). Siblings of children with autism are at an increased risk for psychosocial and adjustment difficulties due to the extra stresses and frustrations they often experience. This qualitative, phenomenological multiple case study explored the unique experiences of siblings of children with autism in an art therapy support group. Seven 40 minute art therapy sessions, occurring approximately once per month, were implemented to address the specific concerns of siblings of children with autism. This study included three participants who agreed to share their experiences and their reactions to the sibling art therapy support group.
