Background

The prostate cancer antigen 3 (PCA3/DD3) gene is a highly specific biomarker upregulated in prostate cancer (PCa). In order to understand the importance of PCA3 in PCa we investigated the organization and evolution of the PCA3 gene locus.

Methods/Principal Findings

We have employed cDNA synthesis, RTPCR and DNA sequencing to identify 4 new transcription start sites, 4 polyadenylation sites and 2 new differentially spliced exons in an extended form of PCA3. The transport of glutamate is coupled to the co-transport of three Na+ ions and the countertransport of one K+ ion. In addition to this carrier-type exchange behaviour, glutamate transporters also behave as chloride channels. The chloride channel activity is strongly influenced by the cations that are involved in coupled flux, making glutamate transporters representative of the ambiguous interface between carriers and channels. In this paper, we review the interaction of alkali cations with glutamate transporters in terms of these diverse functions. Olanzapine Vs. Conventional And Other Atypical Antipsychotics In Response And Side Effects For The Treatment Of Schizophrenia, Jade A. Knutson

The efficacy and side effects of olanzapine (an atypical antipsychotic) for the treatment of Schizophrenia were compared over ten different studies. The methods, findings, and limitations of olanzapine treatment when compared to conventional antipsychotics, monotherapy atypical antipsychotics, and combination atypical antipsychotics were addressed. These studies looked at populations of people with first-episode Schizophrenia, chronic cases, and resistant positive and negative symptoms. Olanzapine showed to have an equal to or greater decrease in negative symptoms and also an equal to or greater reduction in positive symptoms. Olanzapine also showed to have a reduction in extrapyramidal symptoms and an increase in neurocognitive …

In this paper we develop two mathematical models to predict the release kinetics of a water soluble drug from a polymer/excipient matrix tablet. The first of our models consists of a random walk on a weighted graph, where the vertices of the graph represent particles of a drug, excipient and polymer, respectively. The graph itself is the contact graph of a multidisperse random sphere packing. The second model describes the dissolution and the subsequent diffusion of the active drug out of a porous matrix using a system of a partial differential equations. วัตถุประสงค์ ดัชนีแบบอย่างความเป็นวิชาชีพได้รับการประยุกต์สําหรับทันตแพทย์ไทย โดยผ่านกระบวนการ ปรับข้ามวัฒนธรรม การศึกษานี้มีวัตถุประสงค์เพื่อประเมินคุณสมบัติด้านความเที่ยงและความตรงของดัชนีฉบับภาษาไทย วัสดุและวิธีการ กลุ่มตัวอย่างชุด ก. ประกอบด้วยทันตแพทย์ที่ได้รับการสุ่มเลือกจํานวน 792 คน ดําเนินการเก็บ ข้อมูลด้วยแบบสอบถามทางไปรษณีย์ ประเมินความตรงเชิงปัจจัยด้วยเทคนิคการวิเคราะห์ปัจจัยเชิงสํารวจประเมินความตรงเชิงโครงสร้างด้วยวิธีความตรงร่วมกันของข้อความและวิธีความตรงแบ่งแยกของข้อความประเมินความเที่ยงประเภทความฟ้องภายในด้วยค่าสถิติครอนห์มาคอัลฟา และประเมินความเที่ยงประเภทแบ่ง ครึ่งด้วยสัมประสิทธิ์สเปียร์แมน-บราวน์ กลุ่มตัวอย่างชุด ข. ประกอบด้วยทันตแพทย์จํานวน 234 คน ที่ได้รับและ ส่งคืนแบบสอบถามซ้ํา เพื่อประเมินความเที่ยงประเภททดสอบซ้ําด้วยสัมประสิทธิ์สหสัมพันธ์ภายในชั้น ผลการศึกษา ผลการวิเคราะห์ปัจจัยเชิงสํารวจได้โครงสร้างปัจจัยประกอบด้วยมิติทั้ง 4 ด้าน ตามดัชนีต้นฉบับ ได้แก่ คุณวุฒิ หน้าที่รับผิดชอบ ความมีอิสระในการทํางาน และอํานาจแห่งตัวแทน รวมทั้งมิติที่ 5 ซึ่งเพิ่มขึ้นมา ในด้านคุณวุฒิ-หน้าที่รับผิดชอบ มิติส่วนใหญ่ของแบบจําลอง 5 ปัจจัยนี้มีความตรงร่วมกันของข้อความและ ความตรงแบ่งแยกของข้อความในระดับที่ดี ยกเว้นเพียงมิติด้านความมีอิสระในการทํางาน ผลการประเมิน ความพ้องภายในได้ค่าสถิติอัลฟาอยู่ระหว่าง 0.25-0.85 ค่าสัมประสิทธิ์สเปียร์แมน-บราวน์มีค่าระหว่าง 0.34-0.87 สัมประสิทธิ์สหสัมพันธ์ภายในชั้นของแต่ละข้อความมีค่าอยู่ระหว่าง 0.32-0.60 สรุป การประเมินคุณสมบัติด้านความเที่ยงและความตรง พบว่ามีระดับค่อนข้างต่ําอยู่บ้างในบางมิติของดัชนีโดยเฉพาะอย่างยิ่งดัชนีฉบับภาษาไทยยังมีโครงสร้างของปัจจัยไม่สอดคล้องตามดัชนีต้นฉบับ จึงสมควรต้องมีการพัฒนาคุณสมบัติทางการวัดผลของดัชนีต่อไป ก่อนที่จะนําไปใช้ประเมินความเป็นวิชาชีพของทันตแพทย์ไทยได้อย่างมีประสิทธิภาพ (2 ทันต จุฬาฯ 2552;32:53-68)

Oral manifestations such as candidiasis and hairy leukoplakia are common lesions found in patients infected with human immunodeficiency virus. Those who are on antiretroviral drugs may demonstrate various orofacial effects. Immune reconstitution reflects a patientûs improved immune response, but this may be accompanied by excessive response to previously exposed antigens, resulting in opportunistic infection. Common adverse effects of antiviral therapy include xerostomia and erythema multiforme, which are mostly related to use of protease inhibitors and nucleoside reverse transcriptase inhibitors. Most cochlear implant (CI) users perceive music poorly. Little is known, however, about the musical enjoyment received by CI users. The author examined possible relationships between musical enjoyment and music perception tasks through the use of 1) multiple musical tests, and 2) two groups of listeners: normal-hearing (NH) listeners with a CI-simulation and actual CI users. The two groups’ performances are compared to determine whether NH participants listening to music via CI-simulation software are a good model for actual CI users for perceiving music.

This study examined culturally and linguistically diverse families with deaf and hard of hearing children. A literature review consisted of looking at the rate of immigration to the United States, English speaking parents of children who are deaf and hard of hearing, bilingual education, and the obstacles bilingual parents of children who are deaf and hard of hearing may face. The data obtained was used to compile a list of resources for parents of children who are deaf and hard of hearing available in languages other than English in order to assist these families.
