The Effects Of Lead On The Small Intestinal Motility Of Guinea Pigs, Mehmet İri̇adam, Vedat Sağmanligi̇l

In this study, 18 adult guinea pigs, weighing 300-450 g, were divided into three equal groups, and their small intestinal segments (proximal and distal ileum) were removed and kept in vitro in an isolated organ bath in order to record the responses mainly produced by lead and acetylcholine. For the tissues of the first group, the noncumulative concentration-response curves of lead obtained were compared by applications at concentrations ranging from 3x10^{-8} M to 3x10^{-5} M alone, in the presence of verapamil (3x10^{-5} M) and in Ca^{++} free solution. In this study, 30% suspension of barium sulfate (BS) and 1/1 and 1/3 dilated solutions of Na-meglumine diatriozate (NMD) and iohexol (IO) were administered via the naso-gastric trackt to 3 dogs and 3 cats in two different doses, i.e. 5 ml/kg (lower dose) and 10 ml/kg (higher dose). In this study, a total of 300 packaged ice-creams (100 extrude, 100 stick and 100 cornet type) were taken from an industrial ice-cream plant and analysed microbiologically. The hygienic conditions of the same plant were also investigated. In terms of microbiological quality, no significant differences were determined among the ice-cream types. Salmonella spp., Staphylococcus aureus and Escherichia coli were not isolated in any of ice-cream samples. This study was undertaken to determine the presence of staphylococcal enterotoxin and the type of toxin present in pasteurized milk consumed in Ankara. For this purpose, a total of 250 milk samples, from 6 different firms with 130 samples coming from box containers and 120 of them in bottles, were used. All were purchased in Ankara. This study was performed to determine the relationship between the corpus luteum weight/diameter, follicular diameter and the levels of vitamin C, progesterone and oestradiol 17-\beta of the plasma, corpus luteum and follicular fluid of pregnant Holstein cows in a slaughterhouse. Progesterone and oestradiol 17-\beta concentrations were determined by the microtitration plate EIA method. Vitamin C levels were determined by spectrophotometer. Although there was a positive correlation between follicular fluid oestradiol 17-\beta levels and the follicle diameter in the follicular fluid, in contrast to oestradiol 17-\beta levels, small follicles have higher progesterone content than large follicles. This study was carried out on 80 healthy, four-year-old Holstein dairy cows bred in the Bursa region. Twenty of them were in the dry period and the rest were in the lactation period. Days 48-51, 147-161 and 180+ of the lactation period were considered the first, second and third stages, respectively. Blood samples were analysed for packed cell volume, red blood cell count, haemoglobin values, mean corpuscular volume (MCV), mean corpuscular haemoglobin (MCH), mean corpuscular haemoglobin concentration (MCHC) and white blood cell count. The effects of different nitrite doses (100, 150 and 200 ppm NaNO_2) and starter culture (Lactobacillus plantarum + Staphylococcus carnosus) on Escherichia coli 0157:H7 were investigated in this study. Sucuk batter was inoculated with Escherichia coli 0157:H7 (10^6 /g). The count of Escherichia coli 0157:H7 in sucuk samples was determined periodically during ripening/storage by a quantitative method. Lactic acid bacteria (LAB), Enterobacteriaceae counts, pH, nitrite and salt content were also recorded. Slaughter And Carcass Traits Of Native Geese Reared In Local Breeder Conditions In Kars, Turgut Kirmizibayrak

This study investigated the slaughter and carcass traits of native geese reared in local breeder conditions in Kars. The mean values of slaughter weight, carcass weight, dressing percentage, gizzard weight, liver weight, heart weight, abdominal fat weight and shank weight were 4841.0g, 3137.1g, 64.75%, 173.3g, 62.5g, 37.9g, 173.9g and 132.5g for males, and 4622.7g, 2914.1g, 63.00%, 165.5g, 63.9g, 32.9g, 203.1g and 114.1g for females respectively. Sex significantly affected all the investigated traits excluding liver weight. Males were significantly heavier than females for all the traits.

Leishmaniasis is a worldwide, parasitic disease found in the Mediteranean area, Africa, Asia and Central and South America that affects mainly dogs, humans, and rodents. This study was conducted to determine the effects of different cage densities on laying performance of white and brown hybrid layers during high summer temperatures. White layers, 68 weeks of age, were housed at a density of 3, 4 or 5 hens/cage (respectively 640, 480 and 384 cm^2/hen); brown layers were housed at 3 or 4 hens/cage (respectively 640 and 480 cm^2/hen). The behavioral characteristics of Caucasian and Anatolian honeybee (Apis mellifera L.) races and their reciprocal crossbreeds were examined in this study. The average levels of food consumption in the Caucasian (K), Caucasian x Anatolian (K x A), Anatolian x Caucasian (A x K) and Anatolian (A) genotype groups were determined to be 9.09±0.68, 6.62±0.72, 7.93±0.57 and 7.29±0.97 kg/colony respectively. In addition, the average population decline in the groups mentioned above were 43.45±3.40, 43.53±3.71, 40.71±3.89 and 31.11±5.09%, respectively. In this study, whole blood potassium and haemoglobin (Hb) polymorphism were investigated in the Hair goats raised in the Antalya province. The separation of erythrocyte haemoglobin types was carried out using horizontal starch-gel electrophoresis and the determination of the potassium level was done using an atomic absorption spectrometer in randomly chosen whole blood samples of 188 Hair goats. The gene frequency for the higher potassium (KH) was 0.985±0.038. As a result of this research, two haemoglobin gene alleles (HbA, HbB) were determined. The objective of this experiment was to evaluate ensiling methods for more efficient and long-lasting preservation of sugar beet pulp, which is an energy-rich cheap feedstuff. For this reason, during ensiling the dry matter of sugar beet pulp was increased to 20% by adding wheat straw or grass hay. On the other hand, 1% urea + 5% beet molasses (SBPSM), and 0% urea + 5% beet molasses (SBPHM) were added to these silages containing wheat straw or grass hay respectively. The microbiological and chemical qualities of kurut, which is made from dried yoghurt with solar heat in some rural regions of Anatolia, were studied. For this aim 25 kurut samples from the Elazığ area were investigated. Colony forming units of mesophile aerobes, coliform, Staphylococcus-Micrococcus, Lactobacillus-Leuconostoc-Pediococcus, Lactococcus, yeast and mould on average were 3.40x104/g, 2.79 x 102/g, 2.40 x 103/g, 2.23 x 104/g, 1.13 x 104/g and 1.12 x 104/g respectively. In this study, forty 2-2.5 months pregnant sheep naturally infected with gastrointestinal nematodes and lungworms were used. These sheep were divided into two equal groups according to the epgs per gram (EPG) present in the faeces and were kept indoors. This study involved two separate experiments to determine the effects of tannic acid and lignosulfonate treatments of sunflower seed meal on the digestibility and rumen degradability characteristics of some nutrients in rams. The effects of long-term administration of ethyl alcohol on insulin and glucagon hormone levels during pregnancy and lactation periods of rats were investigated. Female wistar albinos, 200±20 g, were used in this study. The control group consisted of 15 rats, and the experimental group consist of 25 ethyl-alcohol-addicted rats.
