Objective: Our purpose was to determine whether unexplained elevations in maternal serum human chorionic gonadotropin (hCG)in the second trimester is associated with an increased risk of preeclampsia. Methods: Between April 1992 to April 1995, 610 pregnant women undergoing second trimester triple marker screening for Down's syndrome who were delivered at our institution were included to the study. 81 women with an hCG level greater than 2.0 multiples of median (MOM) served as the study group and 481 women with hCG levels

There are various theories concerning the etiology of preeclampsia and eclampsia. According to one of these, the immunologic mechanism may play a role. The aim of this study was to determine whether or not T and B Iymphocytes and NK cells, which are important in cellular immunity, play a role in the development of this disease. The effect of zinc salts is defined by several studies. The aim of this study is to investigate how the short period toothbrushing with equal volumes of a toothpaste containing 0.75% zinccitrate effects the salivary zinc levels over a period of 7 hours. In our study a significant increase in zinc measurements was observed 5 minutes after toothbrushing. Although 7 th hour measurements were higher than 0 hour measurements; these values were found approximately similar to intial control measurements. Cartilage grafts are widely used in maxillo-facial reconstruction operations. There are some difficulties of conventional suture techniques in these operations such as long operation time, mobilization, shifting, and implantation or fixation of small pieces of cartilage. Therefore the advantages of a tissue adhesive over conventional suture techniques became evident in these operations. Butyl 2-Cyanoacrylate (B2-CA) is one of the least histotoxic cyanoacrylate derivatives and is used as a tissue adhesive. Turkish Journal of Medical Sciences

The effect of different techniques and materials on peripheral shaping of the complete denture impressions were investigated by stereophotogrammetric method. Six impressions were taken from each of the 20 edentulous patients by using two different techniques and three impression materials. A non-metric camera was used to produce stereo paired photographs of each model. The measurements were made at the buccal vestibule regions, labial vestibule regions and labial frenilum region on 120 casts. When buccal vestibule regions were evaluated no statistically significant difference was found between double phase and mono phase impression materials.

Turkish Journal of Medical Sciences

Cryoglobulinemia has been reported rarely to cause false elevation in platelet and/or leukocyte counts due to temperature-dependent protein precipitates that interpreted as blood cells at room temperature. Upon heating to 37°C, these blood counts decrease to normal levels as cryoproteins dissolve. Here, we report two cases with this rare phenomenon that may lead to inappropriate investigations in clinical practice and have diagnostic significance when kept in mind.

Conduct Disorder is the most diagnosed condition in both outpatient and inpatient mental health facilities for children in the United States. Behavior problems such as aggression, destruction of property, theft and violation of basic rules are concerns for parents, teachers, peers and other adults. In an effort to help increase the reader's understanding of the Conduct Disorder population and their treatment, the author of this paper will describe and characteristics of this population. The author will also address specific mental health concerns as found in a review of the literature, and the status of mental health treatment.

การเปรียบเทียบการรั่วซึมของวัสดุบูรณะฟันชั่วคราว 3 แบบ, ปิยาณี พาณิชย์วิสัย, ชุติมา ระติสุนทร, ลิขนา มักอุส่าห์, พจมาลย์ โตเทียม

Chulalongkorn University Dental Journal

วัตถุประสงค์ เพื่อเปรียบเทียบการรั่วซึมของวัสดุบูรณะฟันชั่วคราว 3 แบบ คือ Caviton, IRM และ Caviton ร่วมกับ IRM วัสดุและวิธีการ โดยใช้ฟันกรามใหญ่ล่างแท้ซึ่งปลายรากปิดทั้งหมด จํานวน 36 ซี่ โดยฟัน 33 ซี่ ทําการกรอ ช่องเปิดเข้าสู่โพรงเนื้อเยื่อในพื้นที่ด้านบดเคี้ยว-ใกล้กลาง (Occluso mesial) และอุดด้วยวัสดุที่ต้องการทดสอบกลุ่มละ 10 ซี่ ส่วนอีก 3 ซี่ อุดด้วยกัตตาเปอร์ซาเป็นกลุ่มควบคุมที่ให้ผลบวก และ 3 ที่เหลือซึ่งไม่ได้กรอช่องเปิดเข้าสู่ โพรงเนื้อเยื่อในฟันเป็นกลุ่มควบคุมที่ให้ผลลบ จากนั้นทายาทาเล็บ 3 ชั้นที่ผิวฟันนํามาแช่น้ําลายเทียมที่อุณหภูมิ 37 °C เป็นเวลา 1 วัน นํามาทํา thermocycling ที่อุณหภูมิ 5 ± 2 °C เป็นเวลา 30 วินาที และที่อุณหภูมิ 55 #2 °C เป็นเวลา 30 วินาที ทําซ้ํา 90 รอบ แล้วนําฟันมาแช่ในน้ําลายเทียมที่อุณหภูมิ 37 °C ต่ออีก 6 วัน เมื่อ ครบกําหนดนําฟันไปแช่ในสารละลาย methylene blue ความเข้มข้นร้อยละ 2 เป็นเวลา 7 วัน นําฟันไปตัดโดย เครื่องตัดฟัน ในแนวใกล้กลาง-ไกลกลาง (mesio-distal) แล้วนํามาส่องด้วยกล้องจุลทรรศน์สเตอริโอ (stereo microscope) เพื่อวัดระดับการรั่วซึมของสี ผลการทดลอง การรั่วซึมของสีบนด้านบดเคี้ยว ของกลุ่มที่อุดด้วย Caviton และกลุ่มที่อุดด้วย Caviton ร่วมกับ IRM มีการรั่วซึมน้อยกว่ากลุ่มที่อุดด้วย IRM อย่างมีนัยสําคัญ (p<0.01) การรั่วซึมของสีในกลุ่มที่อุดด้วย Caviton ไม่มีความแตกต่างอย่างมีนัยสําคัญจากกลุ่มที่อุดด้วย Caviton ร่วมกับ IRM ส่วนการรั่วซึมของสีทางด้านข้าง มีการรั่วซึมเข้าถึงระดับโพรงฟันไม่แตกต่างกันทั้ง 3 กลุ่ม สรุป การอุดด้วย Caviton หรือ Caviton ร่วมกับ IRM ใน Cavity Class II จะสามารถป้องกันการรั่วซึมได้ ดีกว่าการบูรณะชั่วคราวด้วย IRM เพียงอย่างเดียว

Objective The healing response of non- molar sites, molar flat surface sites and molar furcation sites was investigated in 21 adult periodontitis patients following a periodontal therapy of plaque control, scaling and root planing Material and methods A total of 270 sites were monitored by recordings of plaque index, gingival index, gingival recession, probing depth, and probing attachment loss at 3 months and every 6 th month for 2 years.Results and conclusion The results demonstrated that in sites with initial probing depth of 4.0 mm or greater, molar furcation sites responded less favorably to the therapy as compared to molar …

วัตถุประสงค์ : การวิจัยครั้งนี้ต้องการตรวจวิเคราะห์หาชนิดของเชื้อแบคทีเรียที่พบในร่องลึกปริทันต์ของผู้ป่วยด้วย โรคปริทันต์อักเสบในคนไทย วัสดุและวิธีการ : ทําการเก็บตัวอย่างคราบจุลินทรีย์จากร่องลึกปริทันต์ของผู้ป่วยด้วยโรคปริทันต์อักเสบที่ได้มาจาก ภาควิชาปริทันตวิทยา คณะทันตแพทยศาสตร์ จุฬาลงกรณ์มหาวิทยาลัย จํานวนทั้งสิ้น 16 ราย รวมตัวอย่างที่เก็บ มาทั้งหมด 32 ตัวอย่าง โดยใช้อาหารเลี้ยงเชื้อทั้งพวก Non selective media กับพวก Selective media ทําการ เพาะเลี้ยงเชื้อจุลินทรีย์ สรุป : ผลการวิจัย ได้แสดงให้เห็นว่าเชื้อที่ตรวจพบในร่องลึกปริทันต์ของฟันผู้ป่วยด้วย โรคปริทันต์อักเสบในคนไทย ส่วนใหญ่จะเป็นเชื้อพวกกรมลบชนิดแท่งที่ไม่ต้องการออกซิเจนในการเจริญเติบโต

The path from adolescence to adulthood is ever-changing and often extremely challenging. There is growing consensus that today it is an even more difficult journey than ever before. The purpose of this paper is to synthesize current knowledge regarding adolescent depression and its relationship to normal adolescent development. In addition, the origin, nature and characteristics of adolescent depression will be discussed. The paper will conclude with suggested interventions for educators to address the issue of adolescent depression in a preventative as well as treatment manner.

วัตถุประสงค์ แบบพิมพ์หูที่ใช้ร่วมกับเครื่องช่วยฟัง สําหรับผู้ป่วยหูพิการ มีความสําคัญ โดยนําเสียงจากลําโพง เข้าสู่ช่องหู ยึดลําโพงให้ติดกับรูหูของผู้ป่วยแต่ละคน ไม่มีการรั่วของเสียงจากลําโพงสู่ภายนอก ควรมีคุณสมบัติยืดหยุ่น ดี ไม่ทําให้เจ็บ มีความทนทานต่อการฉีกขาดไม่มีรูพรุน นําคลื่นเสียงได้ดีวิธีการผลิตไม่ยุ่งยาก น้ําหนักเบา ใส และ สวยงามวัสดุที่ใช้ทําแบบพิมพ์หูในปัจจุบันยังขาดคุณสมบัติบางประการ งานวิจัยครั้งนี้ มีวัตถุประสงค์เพื่อศึกษา คุณสมบัติทางกลของวัสดุ 6 ชนิด ที่จะนํามาใช้ทําแบบพิมพ์หู วัสดุและวิธีการ ศึกษาและเปรียบเทียบคุณสมบัติทางกลอันได้แก่ ความต้านทานต่อการฉีกขาด ความแข็งผิว การ แข็งตัว ความใส และความพรุน ของซิลิโคน 6 ชนิด คือ SILICON-MICROFLEX BIOPOR PSE30 PSE70 A999 และ A595 ผลการวิจัยและสรุป จากการเปรียบเทียบปรากฏว่า PSE30 มีคุณสมบัติใกล้เคียงกับคุณสมบัติในอุดมคติของวัสดุ ที่ใช้ทําแบบพิมพ์หู มากกว่าซิลิโคนอื่น ๆ ซึ่งควรจะนํามาศึกษาคุณสมบัติอื่น ๆ เพิ่มเติมอีก ก่อนจะนํามาใช้งานในทางคลินิก

ฮิสโตพลาสโมซิสเป็นโรคที่เกิดจากเชื้อราฮิสโตพลาสมา แค็ปสุลาตุ้ม รอยโรคฮิสโตพลาสโมซิสในช่องปากพบได้ในผู้ป่วยที่ระบบภูมิคุ้มกันของร่างกายถูกกดหรือได้รับยาสเตอรอยด์ ในรายงานนี้ผู้ป่วยหญิงอายุ 37 ปีมีประวัติเป็นโรคเอสแอลอี ได้รับการรักษาด้วยการรับประทานยาเพร็ดนิโซโลนมาเป็นเวลา 6 ปี ร่วมกับรักษาวัณโรคปอดมาแล้วกว่า 6 เดือน ในช่องปากพบรอยโรคลักษณะเป็นแผลที่บริเวณเพดานปาก และเหงือกบริเวณด้านหลังของฟันกรามข้างซ้าย จากการวินิจฉัยทางจุลพยาธิวิทยาพบว่าเป็นรอยโรคฮิสโตพลาสโมซิส ผู้ป่วยรายนี้ได้รับการรักษารอยโรคในช่องปากด้วยยาอิตร้าโคนาโซลหรือสปอร์รอล หลังจากการใช้ยาชนิดนี้รับประทานในขนาด 400 มิลลิกรัมต่อวันเป็นเวลา 1 เดือนพบว่า รอยโรคในบริเวณดังกล่าวดีขึ้นโดยแผลส่วนใหญ่หายไป และแทนที่ด้วยเนื้อเยื่อที่ยังมีสีแดงของการอักเสบ ผู้ป่วยจะต้องได้รับการรักษาด้วยยานี้ต่อไปอีกอย่างน้อย 6 เดือน

วัตถุประสงค์ เพื่อศึกษาทางคลินิกถึงอุบัติการการเกิดกระดูกเบ้าฟันอักเสบและสาเหตุที่ทําให้เกิดภายหลังการถอนฟัน ในผู้ป่วยคนไทยกลุ่มหนึ่งที่มารับการถอนฟันที่ภาควิชาศัลยศาสตร์คณะทันตแพทยศาสตร์ จุฬาลงกรณ์มหาวิทยาลัย ในช่วงเวลา 2 ปี วัสดุและวิธีการ ศึกษาจากผู้ป่วย 912 คน ที่มารับการถอนฟันทั้งฟันธรรมดาและฟันคุด บันทึกข้อมูลผู้ป่วยที่มี อาการปวดร้าวรุนแรงอย่างต่อเนื่องภายหลังการถอนฟัน ตรวจ และให้การวินิจฉัยว่าเกิดกระดูกเบ้าฟันอักเสบหรือไม่ นําข้อมูลที่ได้มาวิเคราะห์หาค่าทางสถิติต่อไป ผลการศึกษา พบอุบัติการการเกิดกระดูกเบ้าฟันอักเสบ 2.8% ในการถอนฟัน 1181 ซี่ จากผู้ป่วย 912 คน พบว่า อุบัติการการเกิดสูงสุด ในช่วงอายุ 20-29 ปีของทั้งสองเพศ คิดเป็น 43% พบอุบัติการการเกิดกระดูกเบ้าฟันอักเสบ ในเพศหญิงมากกว่าในเพศชาย แต่ไม่แตกต่างกันอย่างมีนัยสําคัญทางสถิติ (p>0.05) ความชุกในการเกิดกระดูก และแตกต่างกันอย่างมีนัยสําคัญทางสถิติเบ้าฟันอักเสบพบภายหลังการถอนฟันยากมากกว่าการถอนฟันธรรมดา (p<0.05) พบอุบัติการการเกิดกระดูกเบ้าฟันอักเสบในขากรรไกรล่างมากกว่าในขากรรไกรบนคิดเป็น 90% และ 10% ตามลําดับพบว่าส่วนใหญ่เกิดภายหลังการถอนฟันคุด 60.6% และเป็นฟันคุดชนิดที่ไม่มีฝาเหงือกอักเสบมาก ที่สุดคิดเป็น 48.5% และพบว่าจะเกิดกระดูกเบ้าฟันอักเสบในวันที่สองภายหลังการถอนฟันมากที่สุดคิดเป็น 85% อาการปวดจะหายไปหลังจากได้รับการรักษา 2-4 ครั้ง สรุป พบว่าการถอนฟันยากซึ่งทําให้เกิดการบอบช้ํา (Trama) เป็นสาเหตุหนึ่งที่ทําให้เกิดกระดูกเบ้าฟันอักเสบและ พบด้วยว่าการติดเชื้อ (Infection) ก็เป็นสาเหตุอีกประการหนึ่งด้วย ซึ่งผลที่ได้นี้สนับสนุนงานวิจัยของผู้อื่นที่เสนอ ไว้ในคำนำ

Structural Analysis Of Narratives Produced By Normal-Hearing And Deaf Children, Jillian Ann Crosson

This dissertation presents two experiments investigating the structural analysis of narratives produced by normal-hearing and hearing-impaired children. The results suggest that the evaluation of deaf children’s language at a discourse level is both possible and more relevant to academic achievement than traditional assessment procedures that focus on assessing language at a word, phrase or sentence level.
