This study was carried out to investigate the glutathione level in Morkaraman, Morkaraman x Dorsetdown (F1) and Morkaraman x Corriedale (F1) lambs and to demonstrate its relationship with birth-weight and live-weight gain. Fourtyone Morkaraman, 36 Morkaraman x Dorsetdown, 30 Morkaraman x Corriedale lambs were used as animal materials. Blood samples obtained from the animals were analysed by using spectrophotometric technique for the level of glutathione. In Morkaraman, Morkaraman x Dorsetdown and Morkaraman x Corriedale lambs, GSH h levels were 17.7±1.1, 19.9±0.9, 18.6±1.7 mg/dl respectivels and GSH H levels were 40.3±2.2, 36.2±1.9, 31.1±0.9 mg/dl respectively. Primer oocytes (n=157) collected from ovaries of slaughtered cows were matured at 39°C with 95-100% humidity and under a gas mixture of 5% O 2 , 5% CO 2 and 90% N 2 for 22 (n=52), 24 (n=52) and 26 (n=53) hours. Modified Parker's Medium (MPM) supplemented with FSH and 20% ECS was used as maturation medium. At the end of these periods all oocytes were fixated in ethanol:acetic acid in the ratio of 3:1 for 24 hours and stained by %2 aceto-orcein to evaluate the maturational criteria. The purpose of this study was to investigate the association between self-esteem and eating behaviors/attitudes among female collegiate swimmers. Specifically, the relationship between self-esteem as measured by the Rosenburg Self-Esteem Scale (1965) and eating behaviors/attitudes as measured by the Eating Attitudes Test (EAT-26) (Gamer, Olmstead. Bohr. & Garfinkle. 1982) was determined for a purposive sample of female collegiate swimmers at the University of Northern Iowa. This study investigated the relationship between ultra-high frequency hearing loss and delays in speech and language development in 10 language delayed children and 10 nonlanguage delayed children. The study utilized both pure-tone sensitivity measures and distortion product otoacoustic emission (DPOAE) strength to assess hearing capability. Behavioral audiometric thresholds were obtained at 250, 500, 1000, 2000, 4000, 8000, 10000, 12500, 16000, 18000, 19000, and 20,000 Hz with standard air conduction audiometry and ultra-high frequency air conduction audiometry. Human sensitivity to correlational structure between nontargets and likelihood of target presence in a visual letter-search task were studied in two experiments. In each of these experiments, the performance of subjects for whom the nontarget information was altered in the final trial block was compared with the performance of subjects for whom the nontarget information did not change. When stimulus strings were presented individually on a computer screen and subjects were required to make a yes–no decision about target presence (Experiment 1), the change in nontarget structure resulted in increased reaction times for target-absent trials. The intercistronic gene junctions of vesicular stomatitis virus (VSV) contain conserved sequence elements that are important for polyadenylation and transcription termination of upstream transcript as well as reinitiation of transcription of downstream transcript. To examine the role of the putative polyadenylation signal 3' AUACU₇5' at the gene junctions in polyadenylation and transcription termination, we constructed plasmids encoding antigenomic minireplicons containing one or two transcription units. Mummification was not intentional for most North American prehistoric cultures. Natural mummification occurred in the dry areas of North America, where mummies have been recovered from rock shelters, caves, and overhangs. In these places, corpses desiccated and spontaneously mummified. In North America, mummies are recovered from four main regions: the southern and southwestern United States, the Aleutian Islands, and the Ozark Mountains of Arkansas. This chapter is limited to a discussion of burial practices and a tabulation of the location of mummies in the southwestern United States with some comments on mummies of the southern United States, including the Ozarks.

Before 1986, the Common Law provided that physicians and hospitals had no duty to admit or treat persons who sought their care except in limited circumstances. Congress enacted The Emergency Medical Treatment and Active Labor Act (EMTALA) to curb this so-called patient-dumping problem. EMTALA provides, essentially, that Medicare-participating hospitals must treat all patients who arrive in emergency conditions.

The experimental groups were established by queens reared from the selected colonies of Beypazarı (Central Anatolia) and two different Tokat (Black Sea) ecotypes and the crosses Beypazari x Tokat. Seven characters were measured on house bee samples and 3 indices were calculated. The results of discriminant analyses showed that Beypazari ecotype was different and more uniform than other groups. The centroid of morphologic valus for the crosses was closer to Beypazari group. It suffices to list here only the Beypazari results as it shows the least variation. A deficiency in the slow moving gamma globulin in an eight-month-old emaciated female Awassi sheep is described. Analysis of serum protein electrophoresis (SPE) on cellulose acetate of this sheep revealed the presence of three fractions only; albumin (alb), a and b compared with that of the normal sheep which showed four fractions (alb, a and b and g).This finding occurred in a ewe which belonged to a closed breeding system awassi flock. In this study, 768 faecal samples were examined between June 1993-May 1994 to determine the species and the prevalence rates of Eimeriidae in the cattle of Thracia area (The European part of Turkey). The prevalence rate of eimeridosis was found to be 68%. The species determined and their prevalence rates were as follows: Eimeria bovis(34%), E.auburnensis(27%), E.zeuernii(26%), E.ellipsoiDalıs (14%), E.canadensis (12%), E.cylindrica (7.9%), E.supspherica (7.2%), E.alabamensis (4.9%), E.bukidnonensis (2.2%), E.brasiliensis (0.8%) and Isospora sp. Diffuse epididymal melanosis were determined in 9 cases of 446 (2%) slaugtered Redkaraman rams. The pigmentation was unilateral in 3 rams and bilateral in 6 rams. These epididymes were seen on greenish-blue in colour macroscopically. In the microscopic examinations, the melanin loaded cells were obserwed in the wall and/or intersititum of ductuli efferentes and ductus epididymis.

In this study the data on the coccidia of gallinaceous birds in Azerbaijan were presented. Chickens and pheasants have already been examined earlier concerning the presence of Eimeria and Isospora. Peacocks and quails are studied in this aspect for the first time. The examination of the gallinaceous birds concerning the presence of crytosporidia oocysts has been also carried out for the first time. The results obtained are indicative of the presence of a few coccidian species in the gallinaceous birds which have not been detected in Azerbaijan before.

In this case report, a sudden devoloped ventricular fibrillation following Pentothal anaesthesia in a dog and the treatment done was subjected. No abnormal findings were detected according to haemotologic and biochemical tests and ECG obtained at the preoperative period. Blood gases analysis and ECG monitoring were performed before anaesthesia induction for this experimental surgery. After the case was premedicated with Xylazine hydrochlorid (2mg/kg im), anaesthesia was induced by pentothal (Thiopental sodium 15 mg/kg iv). Nutritional composition and edible part of carcass of tilapia caught from the Southern Seyhan River were investigated in this study. The results showed that edible part of carcass of male and female tilapia were 52.8±1.34% and 51.4±0.57%, respec-tively. Dry matter of carcass was 21.8±0.08% whereas water content was 78.2±0.08%. Crude protein, crude fat and crude ash were2.66±0.75%, 12.16±0.74% and 5.18±0.02%, respectively.

The purpose of this study was to examine the inter-rater and intra-rater reliability of the Dynamic Gait Index (DGI) when used with patients with vestibular disorders. Subjects included 30 patients aged 27-88 years, with vestibular disorders, who were referred for vestibular rehabilitation. Subjects' performance on the DGI was concurrently rated by two physical therapists experienced in vestibular rehabilitation to determine inter-rater reliability. To determine intra-rater reliability each subject repeated the DGI one-hour later. Percent agreement and kappa statistics were calculated for individual DGI items. Kappa statistics for individual items were averaged to yield a composite kappa score of the DGI. …
