Histologic Evaluation In Patients With Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia Treated With Finasteride And Surgery Alone, Özkan Polat, Osman Gül, İsa Özbey, Cemal Gündoğdu, Yılmaz Bayraktar

In this study, we compared stroma, epithelium, glandular lumen, smooth muscle hyperplasia, inflammation and fibrous components in benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) tissue between the group undergone surgery only and the group who had taken finasteride (5 alpha-reductase inhibitor) prior to surgical treatment. Prostate adenomas were obtained from both 12 patients administered finasteride for six months prior to surgical treatment and those of 11 patients undergone only surgical treatment. The histological evaluation were performed quantitatively by planimetry. The mean epithelium ratio in the group administered 5 alpha-reductase inhibitor prior to surgery lessened approximately twofold compared to the other group's. In conclusion, …

Benchekroun hydraulic ileal valve and hipple valve techniques are widely used continent valve systems in recontructive urology, We compared continence, catheterizability and complications of the nipple and Benchekroun hydraulic ileal valve ruling out the inherent error of comparing different reservoirs under different conditions. A pouch was constructed with two methods present side by side. Comparable data from each valve were statistically evaluated through Mann-Whitney U test. Nonpalpable breast lesions are being detected with the advent of improved mammographic techniques. Although only 20-30 % of these lesions are malignant, definitive diagnosis has usually required a needle- localization breast biopsy during a 6 year period were reviewed to determine the effect of this procedure on the diagnosis and treatment of early breast cancer. Calcifications were the most common mammographic abnormality for biopsy. Of the 62(27%) patients diagnosed with malignancy, 38 (61%) had invasive carcinoma and 24 (39%) had noninvasive carcinoma. The merits of prophylactic oophorectomy at the time of hysterectomy have been debated for many years. The most compelling argument for prophylactic removal of the ovaries has always been the prevention of ovarian cancer (2). Prophylactic oophorectomy has advantages and disadvantages. The actual incidence of cancer in retained ovaries is difficult to estimate. The advantages of prophylactic oophorectomy include the prevention of ovarian cancer, the alleviation of symptoms from residual ovary syndrome and the elimination of the need for reoperation for adnexal disease (2). The development of cerebral cortex neurons has been studied in different stages of pre- and postnatal periods of rats. In order to show the neuronal processes, the Golgi-Cox impregnation technique was used. The first neuronal process development was observed in the cranial and caudal poles of the cerebral cortex during the 15th prenatal day and continued spreading from the lateral regions and poles towards the dorsocentral regions of the hemispheres. Studies uniformly conclude that union wage effects are largest for workers with low measured skills. Longitudinal analysis using 1989190- 1994195 Current Population Survey matched panels produces union premium estimates equivalent across skill groups, following appropriate sample restrictions and control for worker-specific skills. Evidence from the National Longitudinal Survey of Youth on aptitude scores confirms that union workers with high measured skills have relatively low unmeasured skills. Differential selection by skill class and skill homogeneity in union workplaces results from employer and employee sorting in response to wage standardization, union organizing where skills are homogeneous, and unionized employers' reluctance to hire …

One of the most pressing challenges for health programs in most sub-Saharan African countries is effectively addressing the increasing prevalence of HIV/AIDS. Recent evidence suggests that controlling sexually transmitted diseases (STDs) through undertaking preventive measures, early diagnosis, and treatment significantly slows the spread of HIV/AIDS. In regard to STI/HIV, Maternal and Child Health (MCH) and Family Planning (FP) clients are described as “low risk” groups. However, in a number of sub-Saharan African countries, the reported levels of STDs are significantly high enough to justify use of limited resources to target this group for STD services. Problem. Early intervention is crucial for effective treatment of eating disorders. While there have recently been many assessment tools developed specifically for eating disorders, a screening tool is still needed. This study sought to identify, in an eating-disordered sample, the existence of a v-shaped pattern on scales 4-5-6 of the MMPI, a commonly used general measure of psychopathology.

Method. The sample consisted of 356 females who were being treated for eating disorders through the HOPE program between 1989 and 1996. Past research on the MMPI has produced equivocal results on identifying significant patterns on the clinical scales. Since prior research …

The aims of the this study were to investigate the effects of delayed onset muscle soreness (DOMS) following downhill running on cycling power output and to determine the extent of any relationships between power output, strength, and DOMS. 12 active male subjects (aged 18-25 years) were randomly assigned to either a test (n=7) or control (n=5) group. All patients with colorectal adenomas may not require identical follow-up. We aimed to determine if adenoma characteristics at initial colonoscopy could predict adenoma recurrence or characteristics at follow-up. The number of adenomas and the size, type, and degree of atypia in 479 patients in a polyp prevention trial were evaluated as predictors of the same characteristics at follow-up using odds ratios (ORs) with 95% confidence intervals (CIs). Multiple logistic regression analysis was performed to determine if several baseline characteristics were simultaneously associated with outcome.

There exists a dynamic interrelationship between good governance, a successful government organisation (GO) - civil society organisation (CSO) interface and an appropriate response to the HIV-AIDS epidemic. Good governance creates an environment that promotes collaboration among various sectors of society. Appropriate response to the epidemic, on the other hand, are engendered by positive interfaces and cooperation between key sectors of a community. The case study will specifically examine three examples of interface: the Philippine National AIDS Council (PNAC) at the national level; and for the local implementation, Olongapo city, and the province of Palawan.
