The American Medical Association (AMA) advocates using the inclinometer for the measurement of spinal motion. Clinicians however, have not yet adopted this method in practice. Much controversy exists within the health care community with regard to which measurement method is the most reliable. The purpose of this study was: (1) to clarify the work that has been performed to date and (2) to examine the intrarater and interrater reliability of the Saunders Electronic Inclinometer for the assessment of lumbar flexion, extension, lateral flexion and rotation. Purpose: The purpose of this study was to develop and test a device that could be used in clinical situations to measure spinal height in subjects with lower back pain.

Introduction: Spinal height measurement provides information on the impact of spinal loading on the intervertebral disc. The stadiometer is presently the most accurate device for this purpose but users of the device must be trained to be measured. This excludes untrainable subjects such as those with lower back pain. Athletic trainers, physical therapists, and other rehabilitation professionals stress the importance of proprioceptive reeducation during the rehabilitation process following an injury." 2 It is believed that an injury such as an inversion ankle sprain, for example, results in a reduction of proprioceptive function that may lead to future reinjuries. 3 One suggested palliative method to supplement a deficit in proprioceptive function at the ankle is the use of external support such as taping and braces.47 The tape or brace is believed to provide increased mechanical support as well as increased proprioception.

This study examined the correlation between infertility and marital satisfaction. Thirty-six subject participated in the study. The participants were recruited from a support group. Other recruits came from friends. The survey was sent, completed, and returned by mail as to retain anonymity. The subjects came from St. Louis, MO. Most of the individuals in the study were white, Non-Hispanic, middle class, and college graduates. Each individual completed a demographic questionnaire and the Kansas Marital Satisfaction Scale. The compiled results found that there is a significant relationship between gender and marital satisfaction in a group of individuals with fertility problems. Another …

Migraine headaches are a common and debilitating syndrome causing untold suffering and loss of productivity. A review of the literature indicates that there are two primary factors involved in triggering these headaches: high levels of blood lipids and high levels of free fatty acids. Under these conditions platelet aggregability is increased, which is associated with decreases in serotonin and heightened prostaglandins levels. These conditions may produce vasodilation, the most immediate precursor to migraine headache. A high fat diet is one factor that may directly affect this process. Classification And Immunophenotyping Of Acute Leukemias: A Prospective Study., Shahid Pervez, M. Khurshid

Over a period of 3-1/2 years, 86 cases of acute leukemia were analyzed by immunohistochemical (IHC) means on ficoll separated cytospin preparations of peripheral blood and/or bone marrow samples. Antibodies included in the panel were specific against Tdt, HLA-DR, CD19/CD2O/CD22, CALLA (CD1O), CD2, CD11C as well as against Ig heavy chains. Of 86 cases analyzed, 48 cases were of ALL, (25 of common pre-B ALL, 15 of pre-B/NULL and 8 of T ALL phenotype), twenty-four (24) out of 86 cases were of non­lymphoblastic (AML/AMML) type. The purpose of this study is to determine the effects of two educational intervention methods on participant's knowledge, health beliefs and prevention behavior as they relate to childhood lead poisoning. The two educational methods being used in the study are personal instruction by the investigator and a 12-minute video developed by the American Academy of Pediatrics on childhood lead poisoning. Information contained in both educational tools is identical. In particular, this study seeks to determine if one educational intervention was more effective than the other. One hundred and three cases of Non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma were evaluated immunohistochemically using a panel of monoclonal antibodies which includes leucocyte common antigen (LCA), CD45R (Pan-B marker), L-26 (CD 20-Pan-B marker) and UCHL-1 (Pan-T marker). Of the total 63 cases (61.17%) showed a B-cell phenotype while 40(38.83%) were of T-cell origin. Most B-cell neoplasms belonged to intermediate (79.36%) or high grade (15.87%) according to the international Working Formulation (WF). Most T- cell lymphomas were of either intermediate (52.5%) or high grade (32.5%) neoplasms. The circadian oscillator in Neurospora is a negative feedback loop involving as principal players the products of the frequency (frq) locus. frq encodes multiple forms of its protein product FRQ, which act to depress the amounts of frq transcript. In this scheme there are two discrete and separable steps to the circadian cycle, negative feedback itself (repression) in which FRQ acts to decrease the levels of its own transcript, and recovery from repression (derepression) in which frq transcript levels return to peak amounts. The purpose of this investigation was to determine if procedural explanation, given during dental hygiene care, significantly reduces client anxiety. The sample consisted of 62 subjects selected randomly from the population of all current clients, with records dating from 1994 to the present, of a private general dental practice in Virginia Beach, Virginia. A randomized subjects, pretest-posttest design was used to determine ii if procedural explanation yields a significant reduction in client anxiety as opposed to no such explanation during treatment procedures, measured by the Mann-Whitney U test and Wilcoxon matched-pairs tests. A method for imbedding a dental implant includes the initial step of casting a model of the patient's jaw and teeth in the vicinity of the implant site. A pilot hole is drilled in the implant site of the model, correlating to the ideal angle and location of the implant in the patient's jaw. A guide rod is provided for forming a guide hole in a stent, with a generally cylindrical shaft and a screw portion mounted at the lower end of the shaft. The author argues that the hegemonically-constructed criteria of "appropriateness," as related to communication competence, is not palatable or functional for female communicators much of the time for it serves a social milieu which marginalizes women. Spitzberg and Duran (1993) state, "appropriateness seems spring loaded towards the status quo'' and may work against the interests of certain groups. In this paper, the author attempts to illuminate evidence of power imbalances covertly imbedded in the ideologically complex determination of appropriateness as a central criteria for communication competence in women. SCH 48973 is a novel molecule with potent, selective, antienterovirus activity. In assays of the cytopathic effect against five picornaviruses, SCH 48973 had antiviral activity (50% inhibitory concentrations [IC50s]) of 0.02 to 0.11 microg/ml, with no detectable cytotoxicity at 50 microg/ml. SCH 48973 inhibited 80% of 154 recent human enterovirus isolates at an IC50 of 0.9 microg/ml. The antiviral activity of SCH 48973 is derived from its specific interaction with viral capsid, as confirmed by competition binding studies. The affinity constant (Ki) for SCH 48973 binding to poliovirus was 8.85 x 10(-8) M. In kinetic studies, a maximum of approximately …

The present invention relates isolation of anti-idiotypic antibody 1A7 raised against anti-GD2 mAb 14G2a and its use for the treatment of melanoma and small cell carcinoma. The antibody may be used as a substitute for isolated purified GD2 antigen in any appropriate application.
