The Effects Of Proboctic Preparation On The Performance Of Layers During A Period Of Declining Egg Production, Vanni Muangcharoen, Boonrit Thongsong, Pensuda Hoongpoo

The Thai Journal of Veterinary Medicine

Three hundreds and thirty six ISA Brown layers, 51 weeks of ages, were used to study the effect of adding probiotics (Lactobacillus acidophilus, Streptococcus faecium, electrolytes, acidifier and enzymes), to the feed, on egg production performance. Birds were randomly divided into three groups and received 3 levels, 0, 0.1 and 0.3% of probiotic additive over a period of 12 weeks. Layers fed 0.3% probiotic showed significantly (P<0.05) better FCR per kg of eggs, compared with the other two groups. Adding probiotics did not improve other production traits such as egg quality.

จากการศึกษาสุนัขสองตัวที่เตรียมไว้เพื่อการเรียนการสอนวิชากายวิภาคศาสตร์และ การทดลองทางสรีรวิทยาของหัวใจ ได้พบลักษณะของ double cranial vena cava ประกอบด้วย right และ left cranial vena cava โดยไม่มี left brachiocephalic vein มาเชื่อมต่อระหว่างเส้นเลือดทั้งสอง ซึ่งเป็นการพบเป็นครั้งแรกในประเทศไทย จากลักษณะ และตำแหน่งทางกายวิภาคศาสตร์ของหลอดเลือดทั้งสอง รวมทั้งการที่ตรวจไม่พบความผิดปกติ ที่เกี่ยวกับ cardiac output, right atrial pressure อัตราการเต้นของหัวใจและไม่พบ arrhythmia และ murmur จึงน่าจะเป็นไปได้ว่าเส้นเลือดทั้งสองสามารถทำหน้าที่นำเลือด ดำกลับเข้าสู่หัวใจห้องบนขวาได้ตามปกติ

A Servey Of Dental Calculi And Dietary Factors In Dogs, Cholawat Pacharinsak, Damri Darawiroj, Jiranunt Jirasangthong

119 mongrel dogs, brought to Chulalongkorn Veterinary Teaching Hospital, were investigated over a 150-day period. Divided into 4 groups (less than 0.5 yrs, 0.5 to 1.49 yrs, 1.5 to 4.99 yrs, and more than 4.99 yrs) the age of the animals was related to the severity of the accumulated calculi (P<0.05), particularly in the area of the buccal surface. The group, fed on a soft diet, had more calculi deposits than those fed a hard one.

ผลของวิธีการทำความสะอาดเต้านมก่อนรีดนมต่อจำนวนแบคทีเรียในน้ำนมดิบของโค, นวเพ็ญ ภูติกนิษฐ์, เกรียงศักดิ์ อุบลนุช, สุพจน์ เมธิยะพันธ์, ชัยเดช อินทร์ชัยศรี

ศึกษาผลของการใช้น้ำเปล่า สารละลายคลอรีน สารละลายคลอรีนร่วมกับผ้าแห้ง และ สารละลายคลอรีนร่วมกับการใช้น้ำยาจุ่มเต้านมที่มีส่วนประกอบของไอโอดีนและผ้าแห้งในฟาร์ม โคนมขนาดเล็ก มีแม่โครีดนมจำนวน 10-15 ตัว จำนวน 8 ฟาร์มในเขตอำเภอเมืองและ อำเภอกำแพงแสน จังหวัดนครปฐม โดยแบ่งเป็นฟาร์มที่รีดนมด้วยมือจำนวน 4 ฟาร์ม และ ฟาร์มที่รีดนมด้วยเครื่องรีดนมจำนวน 4 ฟาร์ม เก็บตัวอย่างน้ำนมดิบจากถังรวมน้ำนมดิบ 7 วัน ติดต่อกันในแต่ละวิธีการ ตรวจนับจำนวนแบคทีเรียด้วยวิธี Total plate count และเพาะเชื้อ ลงในอาหารเลี้ยงเชื้อ MacConkey เพื่อศึกษาชนิดและจำนวนของแบคทีเรียชนิดโคไลฟอร์ม พบว่าค่าเฉลี่ยของจำนวนแบคทีเรียในแต่ละวิธีการในฟาร์มที่รีดนมด้วยมือมีแนวโน้มลดลง ในขณะที่ฟาร์มที่รีดนมด้วยเครื่องรีดนมจำนวนแบคทีเรียเฉลี่ยในแต่ละวิธีการไม่มีการเปลี่ยน แปลงที่ชัดเจน และพบว่าการใช้สารละลายคลอรีนร่วมกับน้ำยาจุ่มเต้านมและผ้าแห้งช่วยลดจำนวนแบคทีเรียในน้ำนมดิบได้มากที่สุด จากผลการทดลองสรุปว่าการทำความสะอาดเต้านมด้วยสารละลายคลอรีนร่วมกับน้ำยาจุ่มเต้านมและผ้าแห้งก่อนรีดนมมีความเหมาะสม ในการช่วยลดจำนวนแบคทีเรียในน้ำนมดิบได้มากที่สุด

สถานภาพภูมิคุ้มโรคไวรัส Bvd, Ibr, Pi3 และ Brs ของฟาร์มโคนมในประเทศไทย, ปราจีน วีรกุล, ศิริวัฒน์ ทรวดทรง, จันทร์เพ็ญ สุวิมลธีระบุตร, จินดา สิงห์ลอ

ทำการศึกษาสถานภาพการติดเชื้อโรคไวรัส Bovine viral diarrhea (BVD), Infectious Bovine Rhinotracheitis (IBR), Parainfluenza-3 (PI3) และ Bovine Respiratory Syncytial (BRS) ซึ่งเป็นสาเหตุเบื้องต้นที่ก่อให้เกิดโรคทางระบบหายใจและ เป็นสาเหตุของความไม่สมบูรณ์พันธุ์ในโคนม สุ่มตัวอย่างน้ำนมดิบรวมถัง จำนวน 2,070 ฟาร์ม จากศูนย์รับน้ำนมดิบ 53 แห่งใน 31 จังหวัดที่มีการเลี้ยงโคนมในปี พ.ศ. 2538 และ ทดสอบภูมิคุ้มต่อโรคไวรัสดังกล่าวด้วยชุดทดสอบเฉพาะต่อไวรัสแต่ละชนิด ด้วยวิธี ELISA ผลการสำรวจ พบการแพร่โรคไวรัส BVD, IBR, PI3 และ BRS กระจายทั่วประเทศ ฟาร์มโคนมเพียง 7.3% ที่ไม่พบภูมิคุ้มโรคไวรัส 4 ชนิดที่ศึกษา อัตราฟาร์มที่มีภูมิคุ้มกัน ต่อไวรัส BVD, IBR, PI3 และ BRS เท่ากับ 37.3, 23.3, 86.3 และ 71.6% ตามลำดับ นอกจากนี้พบว่า 73% ของฟาร์มที่สำรวจพบภูมิคุ้มโรคต่อไวรัสพร้อมกันมากกว่า 2 ชนิด ขึ้นไป ปัจจุบันประเทศไทยไม่มี นโยบายการควบคุมโรคไวรัสดังกล่าวเนื่องจากขาดข้อมูลทาง ระบาดวิทยาของโรค BVD, IBR, PI3 และ BRS จึงควรทําการศึกษาหาความคุ้มค่าทาง เศรษฐกิจ โดยนำวิธีป้องกันโรคไวรัสดังกล่าวไม่ให้มีการแพร่กระจาย และลดความสูญเสียจาก ไวรัสดังกล่าวด้วยการฉีดวัคซีนเพื่อสร้างภูมิคุ้มต่อไวรัสแก่โคนม และจะเป็นต้นแบบในการสร้างโปรแกรมการจัดการสุขภาพของโคทั้งประเทศ

The Effectiveness Of Planned Transitions Therapy In The Treatment Of Three Children With Developmental Verbal Dyspraxia, Emily M. Campbell

The intent of this investigation was to note whether use of Planned Transitions Therapy (PTT) would help to improve the intelligibility of 3 children with developmental verbal dyspraxia (DVD). PTT is an approach that emphasizes the sequencing of lingual movements from one place of articulation to the next for the production of speech. Rather than focusing on the production of sounds, exercises with PTT focus on transitions between sounds.

Three male subjects presenting characteristics of DVD received 30-minute treatment sessions with a traditional intervention approach for 6 weeks. Each subject also received periods of intervention with PTT. Subject A received …

Nurses spend many hours with dying cancer patients, developing close relationships with both the patients and their families. However, nurses are frequently not involved in the process of requesting an autopsy, either by choice or tradition. During this time of great stress, the nurse can be more involved. The nurse who understands the reasons for autopsy and its ramification for the grieving process can be actively involved in supporting the physician who makes the request and the family members who must make the this difficult decision. The Legionnaire's disease bacterium, Legionella pneumophila, is a facultative intracellular pathogen which invades and replicates within two evolutionarily distant hosts, free-living protozoa and mammalian cells. Invasion and intracellular replication within protozoa are thought to be major factors in the transmission of Legionnaire's disease. Although attachment and invasion of human macrophages by L. pneumophila is mediated in part by the complement receptors CR1 and CR3, the protozoan receptor involved in bacterial attachment and invasion has not been identified. Intrinsic And Extrinsic Control Of Hemopoietic Stem Cell Numbers: Mapping Of A Stem Cell Gene, Gerald De Haan, Gary Van Zant

We evaluated in vivo interactions between extrinsic (growth factor induced) and intrinsic (genetically determined) effectors of mouse primitive hemopoietic stem cell proliferation and numbers. Accordingly, stem cell frequency and cell cycle kinetics were assessed in eight strains of inbred mice using the cobblestone area–forming cell (CAFC) assay. A strong inverse correlation was observed between mouse lifespan and the number of autonomously cycling progenitors (CAFC day 7) in the femur. The population size of primitive stem cells (CAFC day 35) varied widely (up to sevenfold) among strains, unlike total CAFC day 7 numbers (cycling and quiescent), which were similar. Risk behaviors for transmission of the human immunodeficiency virus are prevalent among adolescents. One outcome of continued participation in risk behaviors is increased prevalence of HIV. Based on Fishbein and Ajzen's Theory of Reasoned Action (1975), a descriptive design was utilized to examine, the following research question: What are the HIV transmission risk behaviors of HIV-positive adolescents? The Henderson Risk Behavior Participation Survey was utilized to examine HIV transmission risk behaviors among adolescents already infected with HIV. The purpose of this research was to assess the lifestyle of international students at Western Kentucky University (WKU) and to compare the lifestyles of international and American students and subgroups of international students. The Lifestyle Questionnaire (LSQ), was a 26-item personal health lifestyle test, which had six sections (nutrition, exercise, smoking, alcohol and drugs, safety, and stress). The test-retest reliability of LSQ was evaluated by Pearson Correlation Coefficient (r) and was .89.
