Down syndrome is also distinguished by intellectual disability and developmental delays, with many affected individuals presenting manifestations of ADHD like inattention or hyperactivity. Differentiating ADHD from overlapping DS-related cognitive deficits remains a diagnostic dilemma. The FKBP5 gene, particularly the rs7748266 polymorphism, has been implicated in modulating stress response pathways linked to ADHD susceptibility. This review summarizes the relationship between DS and ADHD and explores the emerging role of FKBP5 rs7748266 in this context. This may later …

Background: Cyclooxygenase-2 (COX-2) is an enzyme responsible for the conversion of arachidonic acid into prostaglandins. Despite previous studies, there is controversy considering the exact role of COX-2 in the pathogenesis of type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) and its related adverse cardiovascular events. We aimed to examine the association between COX-2 rs20417 genetic polymorphism with increasing susceptibility to T2DM and whether it enhances the development of cardiovascular complications in T2DM. Methods: A total of 244 individuals were recruited, including 164 T2DM patients (further subdivided into uncomplicated and cardio-complicated cases) and 80 healthy control subjects. The different genotypes for the COX-2 rs20417 …

Background: Psoriasis is a chronic, immune-mediated dermatosis characterized by dysregulated cutaneous immunity. Platelet-rich fibrin (PRF), an autologous biomaterial concentrated with immunomodulatory cytokines and growth factors, presents a potential novel therapeutic approach by modulating localized inflammatory pathways. Objective: This study aimed to assess the efficacy and safety of a topical and intralesionally autologous PRF protocol in patients with localized plaque psoriasis. Methods: In a prospective single-arm trial, sixty adults with mild-to-moderate localized plaque psoriasis (BSA ≤10%, PASI ≤10) were enrolled. PRF was prepared from peripheral blood via low-speed centrifugation without anti-coagulant. Treatment involved bi-weekly intralesionally injections and topical massage of the …
