The Ketterer Stress Symptom Frequency Checklist: Anger And The Severity Of Coronary Artery Disease, Mark W. Ketterer
The Ketterer Stress Symptom Frequency Checklist: Anger And The Severity Of Coronary Artery Disease, Mark W. Ketterer
Henry Ford Hospital Medical Journal
Recent research suggests that the most potent feature of the Type A behavior pattern for prospectively predicting cardiac disease is aggravation, irritation, anger, and impatience (AIAI). The present study examines psychometric properties of a new AIAI measure and its relationship to the severity of coronary artery disease (CAD). Subjects included 61 males undergoing coronary angiography. Comparisons were made of mean psychometric scores across groupings, defined by number of vessels occluded. These comparisons showed that the normal or subclinically occluded coronary angiographic group had high levels of depression and anxiety. Higher levels of AIAI were observed in patients with multivessel CAD …

Patients with narcolepsy have more psychiatric symptoms than normal controls as measured by psychometric tests. However, it is unclear whether these findings are specific to narcolepsy, as some studies have suggested, or related to excessive daytime sleepiness (EDS) or to chronic illness. We compared a group of 56 narcoleptics to age- and sex-matched controls with EDS. A group of 48 individuals with normal sleep architecture was also used as an additional control group. Both the narcoleptic group and the EDS-control group had significantly greater scores on Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory scales hut were not different from each other. Our data …

A total of 11 patients with lymphomatous involvement of the rectum were seen at Henry Ford Hospital between 1964 and 1987. Eight of these patients had primary rectal lymphoma and three had secondary rectal lymphoma. These patients' clinical presentation and course as well as pathological findings are described and compared with cases previously reported. As identified in ours and others' series, rectal lymphomas are associated with the acquired immunodeficiency syndrome and tend to have a B-cell phenotype.

Lipohyperplasia Of Ileocecal Valve, Causing Recurrent Intussusception, Lacey Walke, Adrian J. Christie
Henry Ford Hospital Medical Journal
Lipohyperplasia of the ileocecal valve is a fairly common entity that occasionally behaves as an intestinal tumor, causing obstruction, sometimes with intussusception, or bleeding, which may be acute or chronic. Most often occurring in middle-aged or elderly women, it may be mistaken clinically and radiologically for carcinoma or other neoplasms. Its differentiation is best made by endoscopy, confirmed if possible by biopsy. Differentiation is important, as the treatment is a limited ileal and cecal resection, instead of a blind hemicolectomy. A recent study suggests possible associations with other medical conditions. We describe the clinical and pathological findings of this entity …

Rehabilitation Practice and Science
The foot of the diabetic is most susceptible to the diabetic complications of neuropathy and angiopathy. In such condition, any trauma may quickly lead to ulceration, infection, gangrene and finally, amputation. It is hard to make a decision to the level of amputation due to hostile, and uncoop erative of patient and family, so, postoperative wound healing are different in many cases. This study is a retrospective study, 97 cases due to diabetic ,ammputation who admitted to Chang Gung Memorial Hospital from January, 1978 to December, 1987, were followed up by questionnares and telephone. The patients comprised of 59 males and …

Ankylosing Spondylitis Associated With High Serum Alkaline Phosphatase And Intractable Neck Pain: A Casereport, Pao-Tsai Cheng, Yung-Ming Lin
Rehabilitation Practice and Science
Ankylosing spondylitis presents various clinical symptoms and signs. It is classified as a seronegative spondyloarthropathy. The diagnosis is based upon radiographic sacroiliitis in the presence of clinical symptoms and signs. Although symptoms may occur anywhere in the spine including the neck, they are usually maximal in the lumbosacral area. Ankylosing spondylitis with its onset from the cervical spine is rare. A typical patient with ankylosing spondylitis develops back pain during the early 20s and the onset is insidious. Here we presents an unusual case with cervical spine involvement initially and relative late onset according to his age. A 40 years old …

A Redefinition Of The Problem Of Homelessness Among Persons With A Chronic Mental Illness, Donald M. Linhorst
A Redefinition Of The Problem Of Homelessness Among Persons With A Chronic Mental Illness, Donald M. Linhorst
The Journal of Sociology & Social Welfare
Two definitions of the problem of homelessness among persons with a chronic mental illness are examined, along with their implied solutions and ramifications for policy. Homelessness among this group is first viewed as the result of deinstitutionalization, and secondly, as the outcome of a critical shortage of low-income housing. Solutions stemming from the deinstitutionalization definition of homelessness, reinstitutionalization or improvement in the mental health system, are seen as inadequate to deal with the problem of homelessness among the mentally ill. Instead, state departments of mental health are called upon to provide a leadership role in the development of affordable housing.

The Effects Of Different Weight Bearing On Spasticity During Exercise In Stroke Patients, Sue-May Kang, Rai-Chi Chan, Tao-Chang Hsu
Rehabilitation Practice and Science
The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effects of different weight bearing on reducing spasticity in stroke patients. Quantity of spasticity was defined as level of associated reaction during exercise. It can be measured by surface integrated EMG levels.Thirty cerebrovascular accident patients (Brunnstrom's stage II-V in upper extremity) performed forward target-touching exercise in sitting position. The exercise was performed with affected shoulder flexion and keeping elbow straight while the associated reaction in same side biceps brachii was monitored by integrated EMG levels and the weight bearing of both feet was measured by 2 weights. All factors influencing spasticity …

A Study Of Epidemiology Of Liver Fluke Infection In Buffaloes, Vichitr Sukhapesna, Darunee Tutasuvan, Nopporn Sarataphan, Supawan Sa-Ngiamluksana
The Thai Journal of Veterinary Medicine
Two hundred and forty buffaloes of different age groups (1 month to more than 5 years) were randomly selected to study the rate of liver fluke infection. Sixty buffaloes heavily infected with liver fluke were selected to study the variation of fluke eggs in every month throughout the year. Two snail habitats were randomly selected to study the population of snail intermediate host of the live fluke, Lymnaea auricularia rubiginosa. The eggs of Fasciola gigantica were first detected in the feces of buffalo calves as early as less than one month of age. The infection rate in all age groups …
