The Impact Of Drgs On Social Workers In A University-Affiliated, Teaching Hospital System, Joan M. Merdinger, Fredrick J. Garrity, Robert L. Treichler

The Journal of Sociology & Social Welfare

The impact of DRGs on social workers in four social work departments located in one Northeast State was assessed by interviews with all social work staff and administrators. The impact of DRGs was determined to be substantial. Implications for social work education and practice are considered.

Toxicity Of Freshwater Puffer Tetraodon Fangi, T. Palembangensis And T. Suvattii From Uorn-Thani Province In Thailand, Kriengsag Saitanu, Payak Pariyawongskul

The Thai Journal of Veterinary Medicine

Toxicity of freshwater puffer, Tetraodon fangi, T. palembangensis and T. Suvattii collected from Amphur Shrangkom, Udorn Thani Province of Thailand was described. The specimens were collected from March through November 1989. The most toxic concentration of 3569 MU/g. The toxicity of the skin of the rest of the samples during the study period was generally lower than 50 MU/g. Tetraodon fangi was the most toxic species followed by T. palembangensis and T. suvattii respectively. Skin of all specimens was the most toxic organ.

The Thai Journal of Veterinary Medicine

Avidin-biotin-complex (ABC) method for Aujeszky's disease viral antigen was applied to cases suspected of hog cholera. Paraffin-embedded specimens of twenty-five such cases were retrieved. Aujeszky's disease viral antigen was detected in cerebrum (1/18), cerebellum (6/20), medulla oblongata (1/3) and tonsils (2/9). Totally, the viral antigen was found in eleven cases out of twenty-five. These results strongly suggested the possibility of concurrent infection of Aujeszky's disease and hog cholera.

Informed consent and its conceptual equivalents, e.g., right-to-know, are increasingly important. The author discusses the development of the informed consent doctrine in tort cases and attempts to evaluate the consistency of its application. He concludes that it is difficult to separate that which must be disclosed from that which need not be. He also argues that much remains to be done in achieving the objectives of the informed consent doctrine.

การศึกษานี้เป็นการศึกษาเบื้องต้นในการหาค่าเฉลี่ยมุมแนวเคลื่อนคอนดายล์ในผู้ป่วยไทยกลุ่มหนึ่ง จากภาพรังสีกะโหลกศีรษะด้านข้างของผู้ป่วย 64 ราย อายุ 20-40 ปี ได้ทำการสำรวจและวัดมุมแนวเคลื่อนคอนดายล์ซึ่งเกิดจากความเอียงของแอ่งกลิ่นอยด์ทำกับระนาบแฟรงเฟิร์ต พบว่า ค่าเฉลี่ยมุมแนวเคลื่อนคอนดายล์ ในผู้ป่วยที่ทำการศึกษาเท่ากับ 60.88 ± 7.88 องศา ซึ่งแตกต่างจากค่าเฉลี่ยของชาวตะวันตกที่กำหนดไว้ คือ 30-40 องศา

ภาวะโรคปริทันต์และการรักษาที่จำเป็นในนักเรียนประถมศึกษาอายุ 12 ปี สังกัดกรุงเทพมหานคร, สุคนธ์ บรมธนรัตน์, วารุณี อารีราษฎร์

วัตถุประสงค์ของการศึกษาเพื่อประเมินภาวะโรคปริทันต์และการรักษาที่จําเป็นโดยใช้ดัชนี CPITN ในเด็กนักเรียนประถมศึกษา สังกัดกรุงเทพมหานคร อายุ 12 ปีด้วยดัชนี CPITN จำนวน 720 คน (หญิง 356 คน ชาย 364 คน) เป็นนักเรียนในเขตรอบนอก 412 คน และเป็นนักเรียนในเขตรอบใน 308 คน ผลการวิจัยพบว่ากลุ่มตัวอย่างทั้งหมดเป็นโรคปริทันต์ร้อยละ 100 โดยร้อยละ 92.5 มีภาวะโรคปริทันต์ สูงสุดที่ระดับ 2 (มีหินน้ำลาย) ร้อยละ 6.53 มีภาวะโรคปริทันต์สูงสุดที่ระดับ 1 (มีเลือดออก) ร้อยละ 0.97 มีภาวะโรคปริทันต์สูงสุดที่ระดับ 3 (ร่องลึกปริทันต์ลึก 4-5 มม.) และไม่พบภาวะโรคปริทันต์สูงสุดที่ระดับ 4 (ร่องลึกปริทันต์ลึกมากกว่า 6 มม.) ในนักเรียนทุกคน เมื่อเปรียบเทียบการเกิดโรคปริทันต์ ระหว่างนักเรียนหญิงและนักเรียนชาย พบว่าไม่มีความแตกต่างกัน ทุกภาวะโรคปริทันต์ แต่เมื่อเปรียบเทียบการเกิดโรคปริทันต์ระหว่างนักเรียนที่อยู่ในเขตพื้นที่รอบนอกและ เขตพื้นที่รอบใน พบว่านักเรียนในเขตพื้นที่รอบนอก มีภาวะโรคปริทันต์ระดับ 3 มากกว่านักเรียนในเขตพื้นที่รอบใน (P<0.05) ส่วนความจำเป็นเกี่ยวกับการรักษาโรคปริทันต์ พบว่านักเรียนทั้งหมดต้องได้รับการแนะนำการรักษา อนามัยช่องปาก และร้อยละ 93.44 จำเป็นต้องได้รับการขูดหินน้ำลาย

การดูดซึมฟลูออไรด์เกิดได้ทั้งในกระเพาะอาหาร และลำไส้เล็ก แต่กลไกการขนส่งฟลูออไรด์ผ่าน ชั้นเซลล์ผนังลำไส้เล็กของสุนัข ยังไม่มีข้อสรุปที่ชัดเจน ได้ทำการทดลองแสดงถึงอิทธิพลของการเปลี่ยนแปลง สภาวะกรดด่างของสารละลาย และการเปลี่ยนแปลงปริมาณโซเดียม และคลอไรด์ไอออนที่อยู่ในสารละลาย ด้านผิวดูดซึม ต่อการขนส่งฟลูออไรด์ผ่านชั้นเซลล์ผนังลำไส้เล็กของสุนัข โดยชั้นเซลล์ดูดซึมจะได้รับการแยก จากส่วนที่เป็นชั้นกล้ามเนื้อ และนำมาใส่ในเครื่องมือศึกษาการดูดซึมภายนอกร่างกาย สารละลายที่สัมผัสกับ ผิวเซลล์ดูดซึมจะได้รับการปรับสภาวะกรดด่างที่ 6.0 7.0 และ 8.0 ส่วนสารละลายที่สัมผัสด้านหลอดเลือด จะคงสภาวะกรดด่างที่ 7.5 ฟลูออไรด์จะถูกเติมลงไปในสารละลายด้านเซลล์ดูดซึม เพื่อให้ได้ความเข้มข้น 0.25 0.5 และ 1.0 มิลลิโมล หลังจากนั้น 30 นาทีจะนำสารละลายด้านหลอดเลือดไปหาปริมาณฟลูออไรด์ ผลการทดลองพบว่าการเปลี่ยนแปลงสภาวะกรดด่างระหว่าง 6.0-8.0 ไม่มีผลต่อการขนส่งของ ฟลูออไรด์ผ่านเซลล์ผนังลําไส้เล็ก การลดลงในความเข้มข้นของโซเดียมไอออนในสารละลายด้านดูดซึม และการเติมวาเบน (ouabain) ลงไปในสารละลายด้านหลอดเลือด จะมีผลให้การดูดซึมฟลูออไรด์ลดลง แต่ การขนส่งฟลูออไรด์เพิ่มขึ้นเมื่อปริมาณคลอไรด์ไอออนในสารละลายด้านดูดซึมลดลง ผลการทดลองไม่มี ข้อมูลสนับสนุนสมมุติฐานที่มีผู้เสนอว่าการดูดซึมฟลูออไรด์ในลําไส้เล็กเกิดขึ้นในรูปการแพร่กระจายของ ไฮโดรเจนฟลูออไรด์ แต่ข้อมูลที่ได้จากการทดลองชี้ให้เห็นว่าการดูดซึมของฟลูออไรด์จากลำไส้เล็ก น่าจะเกิดจากการแพร่กระจายของฟลูออไรด์ไอออน

ผู้ป่วยเด็กชายอายุ 11 ปีมารับการรักษาที่โรงพยาบาลปทุมธานี ด้วยอาการมีหนองไหลจากขอบ เหงือกของฟันซี่ # 33 หลังจากเคยได้รับการรักษาโอดอนโทเจนิกเคอราโทซิสต์ในกระดูกขากรรไกรบนขวา ด้วยวิธีมาร์ซูเปียไลเซชัน เมื่อ 3 ปีที่แล้ว จากภาพถ่ายรังสี และผลการตรวจจุลพยาธิวิทยา สามารถวินิจฉัย เป็นโอดอนโทเจนิกเคอราโทซิสต์ในกระดูกขากรรไกรบนที่เกิดใหม่หลังจากการรักษา ส่วนกระดูกขากรรไกรล่างเป็นโอดอนโทเจนิกเคอราโทซิสต์เช่นเดียวกัน ผู้ป่วยได้รับการรักษาด้วยวิธีการควักออกหมดในกระดูก ขากรรไกรบน และวิธีมาร์ซูเปียไลเซชันในกระดูกขากรรไกรล่าง ผลการรักษาเป็นที่น่าพอใจภายหลังจาก ติดตามผู้ป่วยนาน 2 ปี

The diagnosis of footrot in sheep and goats is not an easy task. Two main techniques are used for diagnosis - inspection of diseased feet on a farm and laboratory testing of bacteria isolated from foot scrapings. The interpretation of the results obtained by these methods requires a good understanding of the various forms of footrot.

A new laboratory technique has halved the time taken to detect those strains of the bacterium, Bacteroides (Dichelobacter) nodosus, that cause each form of the disease.

Getting The Best Out Of Weaner Sheep In The Eastern Wheatbelt, Sally Revell

A study of the growth of Merino weaner flocks over summer and autumn in Western Australia 's eastern wheatbelt during 1989 and 1990 has identified efficient weaner management strategies, and provided a basis for future research and extension needs of this area. The average liveweight of several weaner flocks was unexpectedly low at the start of summer. Weaner flocks may need to be supplemented before the start of summer to prevent undue weight loss at this time.

A pilot Pig Herd Health Management Scheme co-ordinated by the Department of Agriculture has stimulated much increased involvement of veterinarians in the Western Australian pig industry. Co-ordinated by Ashley Mercy, principal veterinary officer (epidemiology) horn 1985 to 1989, the scheme demonstrated the value of having regular visits from veterinary consultants and in implementing programs to prevent disease and production problems occurring in herds.

Instrumentation For A Postural Sway Platform, Robert B. Shanks, Paul C. Mcleod

Journal of the Arkansas Academy of Science

A postural sway platform has been developed for studies involving elderly falters. It will be used to assist in determining reasons some elderly people are prone to falling and others are not. Results of these postural sway tests will be combined with other tests on both fallers and nonfallers to determine specific reasons for falling. A simple Z-axis platform has been developed that utilizes a unique hanger system and three strain gage transducers. The output of these transducers is input to an analog-to-digital conversion board in a personal computer. Software has been written to take data from the platform and …
