Seizures In Camp Settings, Sandra Shapiro, Taylor Gilman, Tamar Sternfield, Jolie Skivington
CompassPoint
Managing seizures in the summer camp environment presents unique challenges, requiring not only medical attention but also empathy and understanding from both peers and caregivers. Approximately 0.5–5% of children and adolescents will experience at least one afebrile seizure by adolescence and there is a 3.6% risk of experiencing at least one seizure in an 80-year-lifespan (Murphy et al., 1995 as cited in Wilfong, 2025). Recognizing how to support a child with seizures during the camp season is essential to promoting their safety and well-being while also ensuring they have a positive and inclusive camp experience.

Understanding Lyme Iaci: Implications For Camp Nurses, Mary Tobin
CompassPoint
Lyme Infection-Associated Chronic Illness (Lyme IACI) is a term adopted by the U.S. National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine (NASEM) to describe persistent, often debilitating symptoms that follow Lyme disease infection. Affecting an estimated 10–20% of individuals treated for Lyme disease, Lyme IACI includes fatigue, musculoskeletal pain, cognitive dysfunction, and sleep disturbances that can last months or even years despite standard antibiotic therapy (NASEM, 2025). Unlike acute Lyme disease, Lyme IACI is not well understood and lacks validated diagnostic tools or biomarkers, making it a challenge to diagnose or treat for clinicians and caregivers—especially those working with children in …

Having appropriate and qualified healthcare staff aligns with safe, well-coordinated services. When a camp identifies what health services they wish to provide (e.g., screening, medication management, delegation, documentation, communicable disease planning), they are better able to determine who has the appropriate education and credentials to provide those services. Additional variables to consider when making decisions about camp healthcare staff include the camp’s distance from higher-level care, risks associated with camp activities, and populations being served.

Nursing At Summer Camp: Piloting A Novel Clinical Rotation Experience For Undergraduates In Pediatrics, Vanessa Lugo
CompassPoint
Nursing schools have traditionally relied on inpatient settings as the primary venue for clinical placement for undergraduate courses. However, the availability of clinical placement sites has diminished in recent years for reasons that include faculty retirements, problems with administrative support and coordination in large hospital systems, and intensified competition among health-profession schools for a limited pool of rotation sites (Chesney et al., 2021; American Association of Colleges of Nursing, 2022). Clinical placement sites became especially sparse during the COVID-19 pandemic, when many facilities prohibited on-site student instruction (Kaveh et al., 2022; Ridgway et al., 2022). Nursing schools in rural areas …

Β-Glucan As A Potential Modulator Of Tgf-Β Signaling And Emt-Driven Resistance In Triple-Negative Breast Cancer, Hanifa Dinda Hayati, Riezki Amalia, Gemilang Lara Utama, Dika Pramita Destiani
Pharmacology and Clinical Pharmacy Research
Triple-negative breast cancer (TNBC) is a highly aggressive subtype of breast cancer that lacks expression of estrogen, progesterone, and HER2 receptors, limiting the effectiveness of targeted therapies and making chemotherapy the primary treatment option. However, resistance to chemotherapy remains a major clinical challenge, often driven by dysregulation of the transforming growth factor-β (TGF-β) signaling pathway. TGF-β plays a dual role in cancer, initially acting as a tumor suppressor but later promoting tumor progression through mechanisms such as epithelial–mesenchymal transition (EMT), immune evasion, and the establishment of cancer stemness. This review aims to explore the role of TGF-β signaling and EMT …
