A Pouch Of Trouble For The Pancreas: Unmasking A Case Of Lemmel Syndrome, Aravindharaj Tamilselvan, Sabari Ramesh
Manipal Journal of Medical Sciences
Lemmel syndrome is a rare cause of biliary and pancreatic obstruction arising from periampullary duodenal diverticula. We report a 72-year-old woman presenting with acute pancreatitis, biliary dilation, and a periampullary diverticulum causing distal CBD compression. Multimodality imaging, including CT and MRCP, established the diagnosis. Although ERCP was advised, the patient declined and improved with conservative management. Early recognition of this uncommon entity is essential to prevent recurrent pancreatobiliary complications.

Standardizing Assessment Of Clinical Performance In Physical Therapy: From Good Intentions To Shared Standards, Arvie Vitente, Carmina Rafael, Rolando Lazaro
Philippine Journal of Physical Therapy
Clinical education is the crucible in which physical therapy students integrate knowledge, skills, and professional judgment into safe, ethical, and person-centered practice. Yet globally, the assessment of clinical performance remains highly variable, shaped by disparate tools, rubrics, and levels of assessor preparation. While several countries have adopted nationally standardized approaches to clinical assessment, many contexts—including the Philippines—continue to rely on locally developed or institution-specific systems, resulting in inconsistent expectations, inequitable student experiences, and limited capacity for benchmarking, research, and quality improvement. This editorial argues that good intentions alone are insufficient and that the profession must move toward shared, trustworthy standards …

Background: Vital capacity (VC) is a fundamental indicator of pulmonary health, but its routine assessment often depends on spirometry devices that may be unavailable (i.e. because of access, cost) in many clinical or community settings. In contrast, lower costal (LC) and upper abdominal (AB) expansions are simple, equipment-free methods commonly used in physiotherapy.
Method: This cross-sectional study was aimed at developing prediction equations for VC using LC or upper AB expansion alongside demographic and anthropometric variables. The study involved 116 healthy nonsmokers (53 male and 63 female individuals) aged 18–39 years. VC was measured via spirometry using a …

Background: Indonesia, a dengue-endemic country, has high morbidity and mortality rates. Dengue infection manifestations vary from asymptomatic to mild to severe. One of the risk factors for infection that plays a role in this severity is blood type. A better understanding of the risk factors for dengue infection is required to prevent and control it.
Methods: This analytical observational cross-sectional study was conducted at three hospitals in Surabaya from March to May 2013. Consecutive sampling included 95 patients aged >12 years with confirmed dengue infection (IgM/IgG positive) and without comorbid severe illness. Data were collected using questionnaires, interviews, and checklists, …

Giant condyloma acuminata (GCA) is a rare sexually transmitted disease that is locally aggressive with a high recurrence rate. Electrosurgery is a minimally invasive procedure that may be less expensive, quicker, and safer than conventional surgery. This study aimed to review the management of GCA with electrosurgery. We followed PRISMA 2020 guidelines to search and retrieve literature in the following databases: PubMed, ProQuest, Taylor & Francis, ScienceDirect, JSTOR, and SAGE without time restrictions. The study inclusion criteria were original articles that studied the outcome of electrosurgery in GCA. The authors evaluated the risk of bias using the Joanna Briggs Institute …
