5-Ht1a Receptor Gene Polymorphism (C-1019g) In Patients With Primary Premature Ejaculation, Ali Mohamed Ali Mahmoud, Mohamed Khaled Galal Selim, Sherif Refaat Ismael, Ahmad Shawki Hasan
Mansoura Medical Journal
Background: Twenty to thirty percent of men experience premature ejaculation (PE). The bioactive amine serotonin (5-hydroxytryptamine, 5-HT) produces a diverse array of outcomes in the brain and other tissues. Researchers investigated serotonin in relation to many other activities and events, including sexual functions. This study set out to investigate whether or not there is a correlation between intravaginal ejaculatory latency time (IELT) with the C-1019G promoter polymorphism (rs6295) in 5-HT1A receptor gene in men who have lifelong PE.
Methods: The current study included 50 cases with PE and 50 apparently healthy subjects as a control group. Participants were assessed for …

Reverse Koebner Phenomenon In Linear Scalp Morphea Following Punch Biopsy: A Rare Therapeutic Response, Suhas C. Gowda, Akshay Samagani, Shreyas C. Gowda
Digital Journal of Clinical Medicine
Morphea is a chronic immune-mediated fibrosing disorder characterized by excessive collagen deposition in the skin. Linear morphea of the scalp (en coup de sabre) commonly demonstrates the Koebner phenomenon, wherein lesions develop at sites of trauma; however, the reverse Koebner phenomenon—trauma-induced regression—is exceptionally rare. We report an unusual case of linear scalp morphea showing early regression following a diagnostic punch biopsy. A 71-year-old male presented with an asymptomatic, indurated linear plaque on the scalp of two months’ duration. Histopathology from a 3.5-mm punch biopsy confirmed morphea, demonstrating dense collagen bundles with lymphoplasmacytic infiltrate. At follow-up eight days after …

Could Peri-Coronary Fat Thickness Predict Severity Of Pulmonary Covid 19 And Post Covid-19 Pulmonary Scarring?, Basma A El-Ged, Dalia Fahmy, Mohamed Hamoda, Mohamed Tohlob, Heba M Abou El-Atta
Mansoura Medical Journal
Objective: to study the correlation between peri-coronary fat thickness (PCFT) and clinical disease severity in patients with proved COVID-19, as well as post COVID-19 scarring.
Patients and methods: This retrospective comparative study included 202 patients with pulmonary COVID-19 who were referred for Chest High Resolution Computed Tomography (HRCT). Patients were further classified into Group A who had non-severe covid 19 disease and group B who had severe and critical disease according to WHO criteria. CT severity score (CSS), Total fibrosis score (TFS) and peri coronary fat thickness (PCFT) were evaluated and compared for both groups in the CT scans of …

Observation, Analysis, Compassion, William J. Maloney Dds, Pgcertmed, Facd
Journal of the American College of Dentists
Drawing on examples from literature, art, and history, this article argues that optimal health care rests on a triad of observation, analysis, and compassion. Referencing physician-writers and keen observers such as Anton Chekhov, Arthur Conan Doyle, and Leonardo da Vinci, the discussion illustrates how careful attention to the human condition enhances diagnostic insight and ethical care. In the context of unprecedented global migration and strained health care systems, clinicians are challenged to move beyond technical competence toward a deeper understanding of patients’ fears, cultural barriers, and dignity. At the intersection of careful observation, thoughtful analysis, and genuine compassion, the highest …

Health Professions Education
Purpose. This integrative literature review traces the evolution of signature technologies in health professions education and their impact on teaching and learning. By exploring these technologies, it highlights the ways these advancements shape learning experiences and the preparation of future healthcare professionals. While these technologies present opportunities for enhanced learning, they also introduce challenges related to accessibility, cost, and effectiveness.
Method. Using Torraco’s framework for integrative literature reviews, this article synthesizes existing scholarship to trace the historical development of signature technologies in health professions education. The authors conducted searches in PubMed, Scopus, and Google Scholar for literature published primarily between …

Peer Assisted Mentoring As A Catalyst For Academic Success In Final-Year Dental Students: An Action Research Approach, Manovijay Balagangadharan, Babyjohn John, Saranyan Ravi, Sabitha Gokulraj, D.N. Shrienitha
Health Professions Education
Purpose Peer-assisted mentoring (PAM) is increasingly recognized as an effective educational strategy in health professions education. It fosters collaborative learning, where mentors and mentees engage in knowledge exchange, critical thinking, and skill development. This study aimed to explore the influence of peer-assisted mentoring on the academic performance of final-year Bachelor of Dental Surgery (BDS) students, in comparison to their non-mentored counterparts, while also assessing its broader educational benefits.
Methodology An action research study was conducted during the 2023–2024 academic year at Vinayaka Mission’s Sankarachariyar Dental College, Salem, Tamil Nadu, and India. High-achieving dental interns were selected and trained to serve …

Students’ Views On Professionalism As A Window Into Their Professional Identity Formation, Jennifer H. Kwon, Charles F. Shuler, Judith Walker, Hsingchi Von Bergmann
Health Professions Education
Purpose: Professional identity formation (PIF) provides a process-based framework for understanding professionalism, focusing on how individuals integrate professional values and roles into their broader sense of self. Limited research has examined how dental students perceive professionalism and how these perceptions shape their developing professional identities. Understanding these perspectives may provide insight into their PIF journey and help inform the design of educational strategies to address their need.
Method: An online survey, consisting of both open-ended and close-ended questions, was emailed to undergraduate students in the Faculty of Dentistry at one Canadian university. Descriptive statistics were conducted using JASP (Version 0.16.1; …

Integrating Ai-Enhanced Ultrasound Imaging Into A First-Semester Dpt Course: A Mixed-Methods Study Of Learner Perceptions And Palpation Self-Efficacy, Michael Morgan, Jeb Helms, John Imundi
Health Professions Education
Purpose: Accurate palpation skills and three-dimensional anatomical understanding are foundational outcomes of entry-level physical therapist education; however, novice learners often struggle to translate static anatomical knowledge into applied palpation experiences. Ultrasound imaging (USI) offers real-time visualization of living anatomy, and artificial intelligence (AI)-enhanced features may further support novice learners by scaffolding anatomical orientation. The purpose of this study was to examine first-semester Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) learners’ perceptions of AI-enhanced USI integration related to anatomical understanding, palpation self-efficacy, engagement, and perceived relevance to future practice.
Method: A single-group convergent mixed-methods study was conducted with 60 first-semester DPT learners in …

Rehabilitation Practice and Science
The World Health Organization Disability Assessment Schedule 2.0 (WHODAS 2.0) is increasingly valued in geriatric care and rehabilitation for its patient-centered approach and sensitivity to cognitive and social dimensions of disability. It has demonstrated utility in assessing disability prevalence, predicting functional outcomes after dementia, and monitoring rehabilitation effectiveness in older adults. This review evaluated WHODAS 2.0’s application in older populations, identifying research gaps and clinical implications. A comprehensive literature search was conducted in PubMed/Medline, Scopus, Web of Science, Cochrane, and Embase in April 2025 by using the keywords “WHODAS,” “Elderly,” “Geriatric,” and “Disability” without time restrictions. Studies evaluating disability in …

Could Have Seen That Coming: New York State Department Of Health Taken To Task For Failing To Provide Proper Oversight Of Medicaid Managed Care Provider Networks, Lance Plunkett Jd, Llm
The New York State Dental Journal
A recent audit conducted by the Office of the New York State Comptroller (OSC) found that the New York State Department of Health (NYSDOH) oversight of Medicaid managed care healthcare provider networks was largely illusory and a paperwork sham. This raises the much larger question of whether Medicaid managed care is really serving the population of Medicaid patients. It is already almost a given that it is not serving healthcare providers well.
