This study aimed to determine the methicillin resistance and some genotypic characteristics of staphylococci in dogs and their owners. A total of 132 swab samples from 33 healthy dogs and their owners were taken. Isolated staphylococci were identified by PCR. The antibiotic sensitivities of the isolates were determined by disc diffusion method. Determination of pvl, mecA, bla, and fem genes and SCCmec types was performed by PCR. Isolates were genotyped according to coa and spa gene polymorphisms by PCR. The present study was planned to detect the genetic elements of Mannheimia haemolytica and Pasteurella multocida in pneumonic sheep lungs. Pneumonia was diagnosed on the basis of gross pathological lesions. Lung tissues were collected at necropsy of sheep (n = 96) and subjected to isolation of total DNA. The M. haemolytica-specific PHSSA and Rpt2 genes, and the P. multocidaspecific KMT1 and the Omp87 genes were amplified using polymerase chain reaction (PCR). In order to evaluate the in vivo therapeutic effect of oral administration of tilmicosin phosphate on mycoplasmal pneumonia in swine and its safety for the infected swine, the model of mycoplasmal pneumonia disease in swine was established by artificial infection, and indices such as efficiency, cure rate, death rate, the score of lung lesion, and the routine blood tests, blood biochemistry, and routine urine tests of tested swine were determined. In the present study, volume values of the cervical segments in the spinal cords of adult ducks weighing 3-4 kg were investigated. Volume values of the grey matter and white matter in the cervical segment of the spinal cord of the ducks were examined stereologically. Ten ducks (genus Anas) without regarding the sex of the animals. All animals were perfused using 10% formaldehyde. The animals were kept in 10% formaldehyde for 1 week to ensure fixation. Ocular B-mode ultrasonography is one of the noninvasive, rapid diagnostic imaging techniques indicated in canine cataract patients to evaluate the posterior segment of the eye. This study was conducted on twelve eyes of dogs with a history of cataract, which were scanned under topical anesthesia. The preoperative and postoperative ultrasonographic biometry, and ultrasonographic features of the lens, intraocular lens (IOL), and posterior segment were recorded. There was a significant difference between pre- and postphacoemulsification mean value of the axial length of globe and anterior chamber depth. The α-tocopherol (TCP) state as well as enzymatic (superoxide dismutase [SOD] and catalase [CAT]) and nonenzymatic (reduced glutathione [GSH] and retinol) antioxidants in tissues of American minks (Neovison vison) given various levels of dietary vitamin E were examined. Three groups of farm-bred minks received different amounts of DL-α-tocopheryl acetate (10 mg/kg diet, control; 30 and 110 mg/kg diet, treatments denoted as E30 and E110, respectively) for 14 days in November. The body condition of does at the time of mating may affect feeding patterns and production performance during forthcoming lactation. For investigation, 40 Beetal does available for breeding were utilized, and their body condition score (BCS) was estimated using the visual-cum-palpation method with a 9-point scale (scale of 1=5 with increments of 0.5 point). The available goats were divided into 3 groups: higher BCS (T$_{≥3.0}$; n =11), moderate BCS (T$_{2.5}$; n = 8), and lower BCS (T$_{≤2.0}$; n = 21) and maintained in 2 random groups (20 each). Beetal goats with higher BCS at breeding time spent significantly (P < 0.01) more time feeding comfortably and less time feeding with difficulty than moderate and lower BCS goats. T2.5 and T$_{≤2.0}$ goats struggled (displacement and pushing) more at feeders, which included T$_{≤2.0}$ goats eating from the ground for more time (P < 0.01) than the other groups. T$_{≥3.0}$ goats had more agonistic interactions (threatening and hitting) toward moderate and lower BCS goats at feeders. Goats with higher BCS at mating had significantly (P < 0.05) higher milk yield during subsequent lactation; however, the composition of the milk did not differ among the groups. Mean disease incidence rate and number of days of disease per goat were significantly (P < 0.01) lesser in the T$_{≥3.0}$ group than other groups. It was concluded that Beetal goats should not have less than 3.0 BCS at the time of mating for better performance and health status.

The present clinical report describes a rare sporadic clinical case of chronic diarrhea due to lymphosarcoma in a 7-yearold crossbred Holstein?Friesian cattle. Diarrhea occurred due to intestinal lymphoid tissue involvement. The clinical diagnosis of lymphosarcoma was derived from peritoneal fluid aspirate, lymph node enlargement, and absence of serological and fecal evidence of any parasitic or bacterial infection. Reactive proliferative mesothelial hyperplasia in peritoneal fluid examination confirmed lymphosarcoma. The cells form numerous 3-dimensional clusters in mesothelial lymphosarcoma. Postmortem examinations confirmed visceral lymph node enlargements. A hematological examination revealed leukocytosis and a marked decrease in hemoglobin level, which reflected a severe degree …

The present case report deals with the morphological (gross and histopathological) and histochemical characterization of Johne?s disease in a cow. The carcass was presented in a hidebound condition with sunken eyes and with a history of persistent and nonresponsive diarrhea. Necropsy revealed generalized gelatinization of the visceral and peripheral fat. Thorough gross examination unveiled major pathological changes in the digestive tract. In the present study, the effects of cadmium on the development of somites of chick embryos under in vitro conditions were investigated. Radial carpal bone luxation is rarely encountered in dogs. A literature review did not reveal any case of bilateral radial carpal bone luxation or its treatment. In the current case study, the process and result of the treatment of a dog with bilateral radial carpal bone luxation, brought to the İstanbul University Faculty of Veterinary Medicine?s Department of Surgery is presented. Treatment of luxation was achieved by using screws and cerclage wire. The long-term follow-up of this patient was limited to only 2 months since the dog was not brought back to the clinic.

Pasteurella multocida causes fowl cholera in avian species and type A is predominantly reported from outbreaks of fowl cholera. Biochemical, serological, and molecular methods are employed for its diagnosis and typing. Utilizing rapid molecular tools like repetitive extragenic palindromic (REP) PCR and enterobacterial repetitive intergenic consensus (ERIC) PCR, P. multocida isolates from four outbreaks (three from Chennai and one from Ahmadabad, India) were characterized and typed to determine their relationships. Differential equations and advanced statistical models have been used to predict growth phenomena. In the present study, general nonlinear growth functions such as von Bertalanffy, Gompertz, logistic, and Brody, along with hierarchical modeling were applied to investigate the phenotypic growth pattern of Iranian Lori-Bakhtiari sheep. Growth data from 1410 Lori- Bakhtiari lambs were used in the present study. The results showed that the Brody function outperformed the other three nonlinear growth functions. In addition, including hierarchical growth modeling results allowed the adoption of many random effect structures, suggesting that hierarchical growth modeling has a useful role in growth data modeling. …

The main aim of this study was to identify the association between the single nucleotide polymorphism (SNP) in the bovine interleukin-17A (IL-17A) gene and mastitis resistance. Additionally, the connection between the identified polymorphism and the somatic cell score (SCS) was tested. Two hundred and six Polish Holstein?Friesian cows were genotyped using the PCR-RFLP method. One SNP mutation (c.126G>A) was identified within the coding sequence of the analyzed gene. Results of logistic regression analysis displayed no significant association between the IL-17A genotype and clinical mastitis occurrence (Wald chi-square test = 0.74; P = 0.69). Toxocara vitulorum is an important intestinal nematode that causes great economic losses in farm animals worldwide. However, there is a paucity in the development of effective and safe anthelmintic drugs against this parasite in buffalo calves. Therefore, this study aimed to evaluate the antitoxocariasis efficacy of moxidectin, ivermectin, and piperazine citrate in buffalo calves. To achieve this purpose, 130 buffalo calves were randomly selected from Kafr El-Sheikh governorate, Egypt, and were examined for the presence of Toxocara vitulorum. The aim of this article was to assess the anticancer effectiveness of habanero pepper extract containing capsaicin on two dog cancer lines, DAN (fibroblasts isolated from osteosarcoma) and D-17 (epithelium cells of osteosarcoma obtained from pulmonary metastatic tumors), under in vitro conditions. The experiment was carried out in a suspension of D-17 and DAN line cells with a density of 12 × 105 cells/mL in a culture fluid with 10% of FBS. In order to evaluate rumen microbial activity, the effects of two nitrogen sources (organic and inorganic) were analyzed in vitro by inoculating dairy cow rumen fluid and using citrus byproduct (CBP) and milk thistle (Silybum marianum, MT) as energy source substrates. Plant-derived polysaccharides have been reported for diverse biological response modification (BRM) and immunotherapeutic (IT) activities in animals by activating their defense systems to perform better immunogenically against invading pathogens. Keeping this in view, this study was conducted to assess the BRM and IT activities of barley (Hordeum vulgare L.)-derived arabinoxylans (AXs) against coccidiosis in broilers. Significantly enhanced (P < 0.05) in vivo and in vitro lymphoproliferative responses to T-cell mitogens were revealed in broilers administered barley AXs when compared to the control group. Humoral immune response in terms of antibody titers against sheep erythrocytes was also found higher (P < 0.05) in AX-administered chickens. Furthermore, AX-administered chickens also showed higher weekly weight gains and improved feed conversion ratios as compared to controls. Results of the challenge experiment showed that the percentage of protection and daily weight gains were statistically higher (P < 0.05) whereas mean oocysts per gram of droppings and lesion scores were significantly lower (P < 0.05) in the chickens administered barley AXs as compared to controls. In conclusion, barley-derived AXs led to better growth performance and elicited humoral and cellular immune responses in commercial broilers that persisted against coccidial infection in broiler chickens.

Sarcocystis species are the most commonly encountered parasitic organisms in animals. Sarcocystis hominis (Sarcocystis bovihominis), the species found in beef cattle, is not visible macroscopically in muscle tissue. In recent years it has been established that, in addition to being a zoonotic parasite transmitted via the consumption of beef, the parasite produces toxins and causes food poisoning. Therefore, this study was undertaken in order to determine the extent to which Sarcocystis species are present in minced meat, meatballs, and fermented sausages produced from beef and marketed in Kars.
