This study was conducted to investigate the effects of diet and exogenous enzymes on growth responses and micronutrient digestibility of broilers. Day-old broilers (n = 256) were distributed into a 2 x 2 factorial design and were fed on two basal diets: soybean (T1) or canola (T2) meals as such, or supplemented with enzymes up to 21 days. Feed intake (FI) and live weight (LW) to 21 days on the T2 diet was higher (P < 0.001) than that on T1. Feed conversion ratio (FCR) was better (P < 0.01) on T1 than on T2 at 21 days. Enzymes generally improved (P < 0.001) FI, FCR, and LW. The digestibility of histidine was higher (P < 0.05) on T2, but lysine digestibility was higher (P < 0.01) on T1 at 21 days. Histidine, threonine, lysine, valine, isoleucine, and phenylalanine digestibility was improved (P < 0.05) in the supplemented diets. Mineral digestibility was unaffected (P > 0.05) by diet, but enzymes increased (P < 0.05) digestibility of P, K, Mn, and Cu at 21 days. The digestibility of Cu, Zn, and Mg was higher (P < 0.05) on T2, whereas Ca digestibility was greater (P < 0.05) on the T1 diet. Broilers' growth responded positively to enzyme diets, probably due to improvement in nutrient digestibility.

Turkish Journal of Veterinary & Animal Sciences

This study was conducted to determine the contamination sources, serotyping profiles, and antibiotic resistance patterns of Listeria monocytogenes isolated during the production of pickled white cheese. The genetic-relatedness of the isolates to EGD SLCC (5835) (1/2a, lineage II) and ATCC (13932) (4b, lineage I) reference strains was also determined with pulsed-field gel electrophoresis (PFGE) as a result of digestions with AscI and ApaI enzymes. Samples were collected from 16 different points in the production process of 4 different plants at 3 different times. Among the 192 samples examined, 17 (8.85%) were determined to be contaminated with Listeria spp. Three isolates …

Evaluation Of Isoflurane Anesthesia After Xylazine/Ketamineadministration In Dromedary Camels, Fahd Abdullah Alsobayil, Ahmed Fathy Ahmed, Omar Salaheddin Eltookhy

Turkish Journal of Veterinary & Animal Sciences

The objective of this study was to evaluate isoflurane after premedication with xylazine and induction with ketamine in camels. Six healthy adult female dromedary camels were premedicated with xylazine (0.2 mg/kg, IV). Twenty minutes later, anesthesia was induced with ketamine (2 mg/kg, IV) and was maintained with isoflurane in 100% oxygen. Onset and duration of anesthesia were recorded. Rectal temperature, respiratory rate, heart rate, oxygen hemoglobin saturation, and blood pressure were measured before and 20 min after xylazine administration and every 10 min thereafter until recovery. Lead II electrocardiogram was used to monitor camels for the presence of arrhythmias. Venous …

Comparative Efficacy Of Antioxidant Retinol, Melatonin, And Zinc During In Vitro Maturation Of Bovine Oocytes Under Induced Heat Stress, Jafrin Ara Ahmed, Devojyoti Dutta, Nawab Nashiruddullah

Turkish Journal of Veterinary & Animal Sciences

Both A and B grade cumulus-oocyte complexes (COCs) aspirated from cattle ovaries at slaughter were matured in vitro under normal (38.5 °C) and elevated temperatures (41 °C). Maturation competence based on cumulus expansion, COC diameter, and nuclear maturation were compared with and without antioxidant supplementation incorporating 7.5 µM retinol, 1 nM melatonin, and 1.5 µg/mL zinc chloride in an oocyte maturation medium. Heat stress significantly reduced cumulus expansion by approximately 20%, while only retinol could bring a significant (P ≤ 0.05) increase. Heat stress also decreased expansion of A (approximately 50%) and B (approximately 40%) grade COC diameter. All antioxidants …
