Turkish Journal of Veterinary & Animal Sciences
This study was carried out to investigate the glutathione level in Morkaraman, Morkaraman x Dorsetdown (F1) and Morkaraman x Corriedale (F1) lambs and to demonstrate its relationship with birth-weight and live-weight gain. Fourtyone Morkaraman, 36 Morkaraman x Dorsetdown, 30 Morkaraman x Corriedale lambs were used as animal materials. Blood samples obtained from the animals were analysed by using spectrophotometric technique for the level of glutathione. In Morkaraman, Morkaraman x Dorsetdown and Morkaraman x Corriedale lambs, GSH h levels were 17.7±1.1, 19.9±0.9, 18.6±1.7 mg/dl respectivels and GSH H levels were 40.3±2.2, 36.2±1.9, 31.1±0.9 mg/dl respectively. Relationship between birth-weight and GSH level …

Effects Of Different Maturation Periods On In Vitro Maturation Of Bovine Oocytes, Sema Bi̇rler, Serhat Pabuççuoğlu, İ. Kamuran İleri̇, Serhat Alkan, Mithat Evecen
Turkish Journal of Veterinary & Animal Sciences
Primer oocytes (n=157) collected from ovaries of slaughtered cows were matured at 39°C with 95-100% humidity and under a gas mixture of 5% O 2 , 5% CO 2 and 90% N 2 for 22 (n=52), 24 (n=52) and 26 (n=53) hours. Modified Parker's Medium (MPM) supplemented with FSH and 20% ECS was used as maturation medium. At the end of these periods all oocytes were fixated in ethanol:acetic acid in the ratio of 3:1 for 24 hours and stained by %2 aceto-orcein to evaluate the maturational criteria. At the 22, 24 and 26-hours maturation groups, 23(%44.2), 27 (%51.9) and …

Studies On Characteristics Of Anatolian Honey Bee Ectotypes (A. M. Anatoliaca)And Their Crosses: I. Morphological Characters, Mete Karacaoğlu, Çetin Firatli
Turkish Journal of Veterinary & Animal Sciences
The experimental groups were established by queens reared from the selected colonies of Beypazarı (Central Anatolia) and two different Tokat (Black Sea) ecotypes and the crosses Beypazari x Tokat. Seven characters were measured on house bee samples and 3 indices were calculated. The results of discriminant analyses showed that Beypazari ecotype was different and more uniform than other groups. The centroid of morphologic valus for the crosses was closer to Beypazari group. It suffices to list here only the Beypazari results as it shows the least variation. The following means were obtainend: 6.62±0.008 mm for proboscis length, 0.36±0.002 mm for …
Statistical Description Of Lactation Curve Of Jersey Bred In Karaköy State Farm, Mehmet N. Orman, Fetih Yildirim
Statistical Description Of Lactation Curve Of Jersey Bred In Karaköy State Farm, Mehmet N. Orman, Fetih Yildirim
Turkish Journal of Veterinary & Animal Sciences
In this study, the parameters of the regression models for the lactation curve were estimated. A total of 45 standard milk yield records obtained from the first, the second and the third lactations of Jersey bred in Karaköy State Farm were used in the present study. Milk production records were corrected for the ages of cows ond the numbers of lactation. The parameters were estimated in two stages. In the first stage, the data were applied to the five nonlinear models, developed by different authors. The results out of the five models were discussed in detail. The best fitting model …
A Deficiency In The Slow Moving Immunoglobulin In Awassi Sheep, N. Q. Hailat, S. Q. Lafi
A Deficiency In The Slow Moving Immunoglobulin In Awassi Sheep, N. Q. Hailat, S. Q. Lafi
Turkish Journal of Veterinary & Animal Sciences
A deficiency in the slow moving gamma globulin in an eight-month-old emaciated female Awassi sheep is described. Analysis of serum protein electrophoresis (SPE) on cellulose acetate of this sheep revealed the presence of three fractions only; albumin (alb), a and b compared with that of the normal sheep which showed four fractions (alb, a and b and g).This finding occurred in a ewe which belonged to a closed breeding system awassi flock. Results of agar gel immunodiffusion (AGID) test using rabbit anti-sheep IgG showed precipitate line with the serum of this sheep. Analysis of sera from her mother, the sister …

Epidiymal Melanosis In Redkaraman Rams, S.Serap Türkütanit
Turkish Journal of Veterinary & Animal Sciences
Diffuse epididymal melanosis were determined in 9 cases of 446 (2%) slaugtered Redkaraman rams. The pigmentation was unilateral in 3 rams and bilateral in 6 rams. These epididymes were seen on greenish-blue in colour macroscopically. In the microscopic examinations, the melanin loaded cells were obserwed in the wall and/or intersititum of ductuli efferentes and ductus epididymis.

Turkish Journal of Veterinary & Animal Sciences
In this study the data on the coccidia of gallinaceous birds in Azerbaijan were presented. Chickens and pheasants have already been examined earlier concerning the presence of Eimeria and Isospora. Peacocks and quails are studied in this aspect for the first time. The examination of the gallinaceous birds concerning the presence of crytosporidia oocysts has been also carried out for the first time. The results obtained are indicative of the presence of a few coccidian species in the gallinaceous birds which have not been detected in Azerbaijan before.

The present study was conductud on qualis ( Coturnix coturnix japonica) to evaluate the effects of line and age of bird on egg characteristics. Total ninety Japanese quail from unselected (C) and selected (S) for high 4-week body weight for five generations were used. All birds were weighed individually at 10, 14 and 18-week of age and egg characteristics were obtained on all eggs collected during these weeks. The results showed that egg weight was increased by selection for high 4-week body weight and egg weight differences between the lines was due to increases in yolk and albumen weight of …

Blood gases analysis and ECG monitoring were performed before anaesthesia induction for this experimental surgery. After the case was premedicated with Xylazine hydrochlorid (2mg/kg im), anaesthesia was induced by pentothal (Thiopental sodium 15 mg/kg iv). Following respiratoric depression, the dog was entubated and connected to the volume respiratory device. The dog was ventilated with 40% oxygene-air mixture 16 per minute. At …
