The aim of this study is to investigate the frequency of chromosomal abnormalities in men with severe andrological infertility, In 50 men with azoospermia and severe oligoasthenoteratozoospermia (OAT), who referred for our intracytoplasmic sperm injection program, a cytogenetic study has been prospectively carried out. Peripheral blood lymphocytes were cultured for chromosomal analysis and for each proband 30 metaphases were analyzed by GTG banding technique. Major chromosomal abnormalities were detected in 4 of cases (8%). There were 3 sex-chromosome abnormalities, 46XXY in all 3 cases, and one autosomal chromosomal abnormality 46 XY, t (1;7) (P32;Q32). We studied visual evoked potentials (VEPs) in 20 diabetic patients (6 insulin dependent, 14 noninsulin dependent; 8 women, 12 men; mean age: 49.70± 18.22 years; mean duration of diabetes: 9.33 ± 5.75 years) and 20 age-, and sex-matched healthy subjects (7 women, 13 men; mean age: 52.40 ± 16.02 years) as a control group. In this study, the blood flow velocity waveforms of the leiomyoma, uterine artery and myometrium with color doppler ultrasound were analyzed in patients with postoperative diagnosis of benign uterine leiomyomas and 15 healthy volunteers as a control group were enrolled into the study. The lowest RI and PI values obtained from uterine leiomyomas were 0.39 and 0.93. Mean RI and PI values obtained from uterine leiomyomas were 0.39 and 0.93. The purpose of this study is to examine the morphological effect which appears in acini and ductus of palatine glands in patients wearing total prostheses. Acini had considerably wide lumens due to de-generation and desquamation in secretory epithelial cells in those who wear prostheses during varying periods. It was observed that, in regions adjacent to the apical membrane in most of the epithelial cells of acini and excretory canals, large vacuoles were formed, whereas in some others, cytoplasm was disarranged due to membrane destruction. Mannoprotein Adhesin Of Candida Albicansgerm Tubes, Gülhan Vardar-Ünlü

The production and detection of a mannoprotein adhesin (MPA) of the hyphal-form cells of C. albicans on plastic petri dishes was investigated. Using Concanavalin A-coated latex microspheres, the MPA was detected on the plastic surface on which C. albicans produced germ tubes. The adhesin was extracted using dithiothreitol and iodoacetamide. It did not inhibit the adhesion of the yeast-form C. albicans to buccal epithelial cells (BEC). This suggested that the MPA of the hyphal-form cells on the plastic was different from that on the yeast cells responsible for attachment to the BECs.

Limited Joint Mobility In 77 Children With Type Idiabetes Mellitus And Correlation To Otherdiabetic Complications, Ayşenur Ökten, Gülay Kaya, Gülay Karagüzel, Yusuf Gedi̇k, Yakup Aslan

We investigated limited joint mobility in 77 patients with type I diabetes mellitus. The patients were also assesed for neuropathy, retinopathy and pulmonary complications. The prevalence of limited joint mobility was 47%. Skin changes were present in 87% of patients with diabetes of more than 5 years' duration. No relationship was found between limited joint mobility and metabolic control, but there was a very strong correlation between limited joint mobility and other diabetic complications such as neuropathy, nephropathy and retinopathy. We did not find any differences in the pulmonary function tests of patients with and without limited joint mobility. We …

Hypervolemia is supposed to be the principal factor in hypertension in chronic hemodialysis adults. In this study, the role of intensive ultrafiltration (UF) treatment to reduce hypertension due to hypervolemia in hemodialysis children was investigated. Medullary thyroid carcinoma (MTC) may present in various clinical forms, either sporadic or a counterpart of hereditary endocrine disorders. The appropriate surgical procedure for MTC is total thyroidectomy combined with central neck clearance. The aim of this study was to document the initial clinical presentation, surgical treatment and clinical course of MTC in 27 patients. Thirteen (48.1%) cases were diagnosed as hereditary, either MEN 2a(7/27, 25.9%) or 2b syndrome (1/27, 3.7%) or familial non-MEN MTC (5/27, 18.5%), and fourteen cases were diagnosed as sporadic. In industry increased mechanisation results in increased noise levels. Operation of textile machines carries a high risk of hearing loss. In this study the evaluation of textile worker's noise induced hearing loss was reviewed cross sectionally. The hearing of 260 textile workers exposed to noise levels between 85-95 dB(A) in carpet and cotton textile factories was assessed by means of air and bone conductance audiograms obtained. The subjects were grouped into five hearing categories according to hearing thresholds at 125 to 8000 Hz with Klockhoffs classification. Endogenous leukotrienes (LT) levels in plasma and urine samples, and LT levels released from stimulated leukocytes in vitro were examined in children with steroid sensitive nephrotic syndrome (SSNS). Plasma LT concentrations were found to be higher in the SSNS group than in healthy subjects. Subjects with SSNS were also shown to have high levels of urinary cysteinyl-LTs and LTB 4 , while healthy children had only urinary LTE 4 levels. Primer oocytes (n=520) collected from ovaries of slaughtered cows were divided into 3 groups, and matured at 39ºC with 95-100% humidity and under a gas mixture of 5% O 2 , 5% CO 2 and 90% N 2 for 22, 24 and 26 hours. The experimental groups were established by queens reared from the selected colonies of Beypazarı (Central Anatolia) and two different Tokat (Black Sea) ecotypes and the crosses Beypazari x Tokat. Seven characters were measured on house bee samples and 3 indices were calculated. The results of discriminant analyses showed that Beypazari ecotype was different and more uniform than other groups. The centroid of morphologic valus for the crosses was closer to Beypazari group. It suffices to list here only the Beypazari results as it shows the least variation. In the semen of the two bulls, abnormal structures, which were not identified with phase-contrast and dark-field microscopy, were observed. These samples were fixed, embedded in the plastic blocks and sectioned for examining with T.E.M. It was understood that the objects in the first sample were abnormal spermatozoa which have both head and tail anomalies. The objects in the second sample were not abnormal spermatozoa. They were leukocytes which infiltrated into the semen.

One of the 20 necropsied stray dogs in Kars city was found naturally infected with three adults of Alaria alata (Goeze, 1782). This is the first report of A. alata from dogs in Turkey. The parasites were measured 2.34 (2.27-2.40) mm in length and 1.46 (1.43-1.50) mm in width.

Eosinophilic myositis was described in the M. longissimus lumborum, M. latissimus dorsi, M. gluteus muscles of Holstein bull aged 18 month-old. Diffuse lesions were seen grossly. They were well-demarked, in green colour and 2-3 mm in diameter. Diffuse eosinophilic myositis were diagnosed microscopically.

The aim of this study was to investigate the effects of silicon on body weights and metabolisms of broilers. Therefore, day-old 30 broiler chicks were parted to 2 groups (15 control group and 15 experimental group). A comparative study of the Rose Bengal test (RBT), Enzyme-Linked Immunosorbent Assay (ELISA) and complement fixation test (CFT) was performed to analyze sera of two Awassi flocks. Flock A was composed of 215 ewes, naturally infected with brucellosis. None of the animals were vaccinated. Flock B consisted of 336 non-infected non-vaccinated ewes. These served as nega-tive controls. The two flocks were each divided into 4 groups, and samples were collected from one group every 6 months and subjected to bacteriologic and serologic testing.
