Panic is an often incapacitating and chronic disorder. Cognitive behaviour therapy (CBT) and alprazolam have been shown to be effective in the treatment of panic disorder. Patients who met the DSM-III-R criteria for panic disorder, were randomized and given 16 weeks of double-blind treatment with CBT (n=16), or alprazolam of up to 6 mg/day (n=18). The 17-item HAM-D and HAM-A scales were administered to all the subjects before and after treatment, which took place over 16 weeks, and the changes in the scores were analyzed. The aim of this study, which was carried out in the Textile Department of the Denizli Printing and Dyeing Industry Inc., was to compare ergonomic work analysis findings in which the functional hand capacity of workers and working conditions were evaluated. A total of 225 textile workers (143 women and 82 men) were included in our study. The working conditions were evaluated by ergonomic work analysis. The functional hand capacities of the workers were evaluated by the Valpar Upper Extremity Range of Motion Test and the Purdue Pegboard Test. The aim of this study was to determine the prevalence of diabetes mellitus and associated risk factors in rural Kayseri in Central Anatolia and to demonstrate whether glucometers can be used in epidemiological studies. This research was performed in Kayseri in 1994. The research population consisted of 3713 people chosen randomly among men and women of 30 years of age and over. The co-localization of the distribution of the neurokinin 1 receptor with nitric oxide was investigated in laminae I-II, III- IV, X and in the intermediolateral horn of the spinal cord in thirteen adult rats. Silver-intensified gold and standard immunocytochemical labelling or standard double immunocytochemical labelling were employed in 40µm-thick sections of the spinal cord. There were many NK1 receptor-expressing neurones in the dorsal horn of the spinal cord, but none of these expressed NOS. In this research, the effects of early weaning on the growth rate and milk production characteristics of Brown Swiss cattle in later years were investigated. The calves used in the study were weaned at 5, 7 and 9 weeks of age, and the weights obtained at 6, 9, 12, 15 and 18 months of age were not significantly affected by the age of weaning. The weight gains determined between 6 and 18 months of ages with 3-month intervals were also not significantly affected by the different ages of weaning. The aim of this study was to estimate the cost of mastitis and the contribution of each cost component of mastitis to the total mastitis induced cost in herds with low and high levels of subclinical mastitis under Scottish field conditions. It was estimated that mastitis cost £140 per cow/year to the average Scottish dairy farmer in 1996. However, this figure was as low as £69 per cow/year in herds with lower levels of subclinical mastitis, and as high as £228 cow/year in herds with high sub- clinical mastitis. Effects of immersion chilling on the microbiological quality of poultry carcasses and cross contamination of Salmonella were studied. Levels of aerobic mezophilic bacteria, coliform, Escherichia coli and the incidence of Salmonella were determined prechill and postchill. The level of coliform and E. coli were reduced by immersion chilling (P0.05) but there was an increase in Salmonella incidence in carcasses exiting the immersion chiller indicating that this may be the point of most significant cross contamination in broiler processing plants. In the first step, semen samples were diluted with Tris+Citric acid+Fructose+Egg yolk and Sadium citrate+Egg yolk diluents and were frozen in liquid nitrogen vapour. In the second step, 120 Merino ewes were synchronised with sponges, which contained flourogestone acetate, for 14 days. PMSG was injected into the ewes on the withdrawal day. This paper is the second part of a study carried out to reveal the comparative production performances and effect of some environmental factors on the production characteristics of Chios and Imroz ewes kept in a single flock under semi-intensive conditions. In this part of the study milk yields, lactation lengths and fleece weights and characteristics were considered. In this study, the heart structures of 30 English racing horses with different weights were examined by M-mode echocardiography. Horses were separated into 3 groups of 10 horses. A feeding trial was conducted to study the effects of dietary astaxanthin concentration on muscle pigmentation of rainbow trout ( Oncorhynchus mykiss) with a mean initial weight of 270 g fed diets supplemented with astaxanthin in diet concentrations of 60 (group II) and 90 mg/kg (group III) for 35 days. The rainbow trout has a great production capacity in Turkey. Marinated and breaded rainbow trout was prepared and the effect of the MAP technology on the shelf-life was studied. The samples were packaged and stored in 3 groups. These were the control (air), group A (5% O_2 + 35% CO_2 + 60% N_2 ), and group B (30% CO_2 + 70% N_2 ). Multiple regression analysis was utililised to estimate the relationship between somatic cell counts (SCC) and milk yield using the data of 1687 quarter milk samples collected weekly from 20 cows at the Dairy Unit of A.U. Veterinary Faculty's Research Farm between May and October 1998. The findings of this study supported the results of similar previous studies on that there is a negative relationship between SCC and milk yield, the relationship between milk yield and lnSCC (natural logarithmic form) is not linear. Alloimmunization can be a significant complication of transfusion therapy in patients with thalassemia and hemoglobinopathies. The aim of this study was to investigate Rh and Kell antigens in patients with thalassemia major and in donors in Turkey. A total of 3061 donors and 155 thalassemic patients from three different blood donation centers in Turkey were the subjects of this study. Experimental material consisted of 36 selected colonies collected from 6 different regions of Turkey. During the swarming season 20 worker bees were taken from each colony in order to measure the morphological characters including corbicul and wax mirror area, tongue length and body size. Development of the colony population, brood rearing activity and honey yield during a season were determined and the hive was weighed weekly for 6 months under migratory beekeeping conditions. This experiment was carried out to evaluate the role of vitamin E in decreasing the toxic effect of digoxin. Electrocardiographic recordings of New Zealand rabbits which were treated with digoxin-only or digoxin+vitamin E were used. Recordings were obtained before and 24 hours after treatments. It was found that digoxin-only treatment caused a sinusoidal tachicardia without changing the durations or amplitudes of any wave on the trace. However, digoxin+vitamin E treatment did not produce any increase in heart rate. It was concluded that vitamin E injection along with digoxin injection might lower the toxic effect of digoxin. The aim of this study was to determine the growth parameters of Rainbow trout (Oncorhynhcus mykiss) in net cages in Almus Dam Lake. The experiment continued for a period of 105 days between May 1 and August 15 1996. During the experiment 6480 rainbow trout with an average weight of 50 g were used. Experimental groups of 50 g mean initial body weight reached 279 g mean final weight by the end of the experiment.

To estimate the effect of exposure to tobacco dust on lipid parameters that increase the incidence of cardiovascular disease (CVD), 70 female workers were selected from the tobacco processing section of a tobacco plant, and 55 women were selected from the administration selection as the controls. Tumor imaging with myocardial perfusion agents has been a focal point for researchers. A kinetic study with 99m Technetium- methoxyisobutylisonitrile ( 99m Tc-MIBI) was performed to evaluate the tumor uptake of this radiopharmaceutical in lung cancer. Thirty-five patients with lung cancer were studied. In 21 (60%) patients, there were regions of high uptake of 99m Tc-MIBI in the lesions. Heart/tumor (H/T), heart/lung (H/L) and tumor/lung (T/L) ratios were obtained. H/T and H/L ratios were 1.66±0.22 and 2.10±0.28 in 2-3 min, and 1.69±0.25 and 2.14±0.27 in 29-30 min respectively. Lupus anticoagulant (LA) and anti-cardiolipin antibodies (ACAs) are acquired antiphospholipid antibodies (APAs), which are considered to be important markers for pregnancy losses and intrauterine fetal demise. In this study, we evaluated 39 patients, who had been followed up in various centers, in order to determine the psychosocial effects of IDDM on children and young patients. The mean age of the patients was 15.58±2.29 years and the mean duration of diabetes was 4.41±3 years. We measured the depression and self-esteem scores in all patients using a standardized questionnaire for Turkish children. Depression was found in four patients (10.3%), and the self-esteem scores of all patients were within the normal range. In this study, pollution caused by arsenic residues in grey mullets (Chalcarburnus tarichii, Pallas 1811) living in Van Lake were investigated. A Total 120 samples, from the four seasons from 01.01.1994 to 01.01.1995 were collected. The organic parts of the muscles were washed with a mixture of magnesium oxide and magnesium nitrate according to the dry ash method and arsenic residues were measured by silver diethyl dithyocarbamate in a spectrophotometer. By analyzing the 120 fish samples, arsenic residues were calculated to be 0.009 - 0.347 ppm (average 0.051±0.046). In light of these results as the arsenic residues in grey mullets …
