This prospective randomized clinical study was designed to assess and compare the effects of normothermic and hypothermic nonpulsative cardiopulmonary bypass in patients with mitral valve replacement. Forty patients undergoing elective mitral valve replacement were randomly divided into two groups according to the temperature of perfusion. Group N (15 patients) underwent normothermic cardiopulmonary perfusion and Group H (25 patients) underwent hypothermic cardiopulmonary perfusion. These groups were compared using clinical and electrocardiographic criteria and cardiovascular evaluation parameters. Quantitative data were analyzed using the paired Student t test. Carbonic anhydrase is the basic enzyme in inhalation function. Untill now no research had been done to determine whether CA is in the human erythrocyte plasma membrane or not. Carbonic anhydrase (CA) was purified from human erythrocyte plasma membrane and described in this study. For this purpose, the blood samples taken from young human test subjects were hemolyzed, then the membrane fraction was separated, and this fraction was repeatedly washed. QSAR analysis of some 5- or 6-methyl-2-substituted benzoxazoles/ benzimidazoles was studied for the antifungal activity against C. albicans using Hansch analysis. Prediction for the lead optimization in this QSAR analysis was described by the description of various hydrophobic, electronic, steric and structural parameters related to positions R_1, R_2, R_5, R_6, X, Y. The cross-validation method was also applied to the data set in order to prove the predictive power by using the BILIN statistical software. Histamine is a biogenic amine widely distributed in the central nervous system that acts in a neuroregulatory role in controlling the waking state. The aim of this study was to determine whether 120 h of REM sleep deprivation (REMSD) causes changes in histamine concentrations in rat brain stems and cerebral cortex areas that are involved in the homeostatic regulation of sleep. Nucleolar organizer regions (NORs) are chromosomal segments in which ribosomal RNA is encoded. The AgNOR technique, which reveals these regions, has rarely been used in diagnosis and preceding the prognosis of pituitary adenoma. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the correlation of hormonal profile with the AgNOR counts, and the correlation of recurrence with the AgNOR counts and to determine the concordance between the evaluations of two different observers. Increased mean airway pressure (Paw) predisposes to increased alveolar dead space volume and, hence, physiologic dead space volume (V{Dphys}. This is the result of overdistending alveoli, converting Zone 2 and Zone 3 units to Zone 1 units. Lung carbon dioxide elimination (LCO_2) is a reflection of pulmonary capillary blood flow. It is hypothesized that as Zone 1 units form or V{Dphys} increases, LCO_2 decreases proportionately and eventually PaCO_2 increases. We investigated whether rCBF values obtained with the SPECT technique are different in schizophrenics with predominantly positive or negative symptoms and assessed the biological underpinnings of psychotic phenomena, which has been done repeatedly in the past, with somewhat varied results. Twenty-nine schizophrenic patients were examined to investigate the relationship between regional cerebral blood flow (rCBF) and psychopathology according to SANS, SAPS and BPRS scores. Using the Tc-99m HMPAO SPECT method at rest, rCBF was assessed in 15 patients with predominantly positive (group I) and 14 with predominantly negative (group II) symptoms. This study was conducted in an endemic goitre area to determine thyroid profiles TSH, freeT4 (fT4), T4, fT3 and T3, as well as the degree of the severity of hypothyroidism and the prevalence of the disease. Tonbak is a small village in Kahramanmaraş. The iodine content of the water is < 1 mg/L. A randomly selected group of 121 subjects aged 16-55 were included in the study. The percentage of goitre was 71.1% upon physical examination. Subjects with primary hypothyroidism were 16.5%. To determine the effects of cigarette smoking on blood antioxidant status and lipid peroxidation, 16 healthy male current smokers (CS) and 16 healthy male non-smokers (NS) serving as controls were studied. CS were divided into two groups: short-term smokers (STS) 35.4 ± 5.8 years of age (mean±SD), and long-term smokers (LTS) 60.9 ± 4.9 years of age. The aim of this study was to determine serum antibody levels against the Newcastle disease virus in vaccinated chicken flocks in addition to experimental animals by hemagglutination inhibition (HI)test and enzyme linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) and compare the results. Methanol-precipitated antigen prepared from the LaSota strain of Newcastle disease virus was used with peroxidase-labelled rabbit anti-chicken IgG as a conjugate and ortho-phenylenediamine as a substrate in ELISA. In this study 250 raw milk and 254 herby cheese samples collected from Van city center and neighboring villages were investigated in terms of Listeria species. For Listeria isolation,the method recommended by the FDA was used.Of the raw milk samples,6 (2.40 %)were found to be positive with regard to Listeria; 3 (1.20 %)had L.monocytogenes, 1 (0.40 %)L.innocua and 1 (0.40 %)L.welshimeri. Of the herby cheese samples,13 (5.11 %)were found to be positive with regard to Listeria;10 (3.93 %)had L.monocytogenes, 1 (0.39 %)L.ivanovii,1 (0.39 %)L.innocua and 1 (0.39 %)L.welshimeri. In this study,antibodies against Brucella melitensis in aborted sheep were investigated with enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA), standard tube agglutination test (SAT), rose bengal plate test (RBPT), complement fixation test (CFT), 2-mercaptoethanol microagglutination test (2-ME-MAT)and dithiothreitol microagglutination test (DTT-MAT). The sensitivity and specificity of the tests were calculated by using CFT results as the gold standard. A Kappa value was used to measure the agreements between ELISA and the other tests. This study was carried out to determine the pathomorphologic changes and the incidence of these changes in the uterus, cervix, vagina and related ligaments of ewes slaughtered at Elazığ abattoirs. For this purpose,the genital organs of 6100 ewes from different breeds and ages were examined.There were pathomorphologic changes in 274 cases (4.49%)in the uterus,70 cases (1.14%)in the cervix,and 61 cases (1.00%)in the vagina.Inflammatory changes were primarily lesions (2.68%)observed in the uterus.These changes were catarrhal endometritis (0.52%), purulent metritis (0.32%),necrotic endometritis (0.11%), chronic nonpurulent endometritis (0.95%),granulomatous endometritis (0.13%),pyometra (0.11 %)and parametritis (0.52%). In this study, 14 adult albino guinea pigs, weighing 300-350 g, were divided into two equal groups. The small intestinal segments (distal ileum)taken from the animals were kept in vitro in the isolated organ bath, and the isotonic contractions of the tissues produced by amitraz and acetylcholine were recorded on a polygraph. This study was carried out to evaluate the effects of ration supplemented with zinc on the electrocardiograms of 60 broiler chicks. The chicks were divided into four groups,one control and three experimental groups (II,III,IV). Zinc was given to the experimental groups at doses of 125, 500, 1000 mk/kg respectively, in their ration for 60 days.The electrocardiogram recordings were performed on chicks on the 60 th day of the experiment. The Development Of European Sea Bass (Dicentrarchus Labrax L., 1758) Eggs In Relation To Temperature, Şahi̇n Saka, Kürşat Firat, H. Okan Kamaci

In this study, the development of European Sea Bass (Dicentrarchus labrax L., 1758) eggs was investigated at different temperatures. The experiments were carried out at 15ºC and 17ºC. The average diameters of the eggs were determined tobe approximately 1.162±0.004 mm. The embryonic development of the eggs was observed every hour and then photographed. The hatching rates were found to be 84.8-89.4% at 15ºC and 82.3-86.3% at 17ºC, respectively. Hatching of the larvae took 87 hours at 15ºC and 69 hours at 17ºC.

This study was carried out to determine the prevalence of Cryptosporidium spp. oocysts in diarrhoeic calves in Kars province. The study was conducted between February 1999 and June 1999, involving 140 diarrhoeic calves from 8 different localities (Kars-Central district, Karakaş, Bulanık, Karakale, Hacıhalil, Boğazköy, Susuz-Central district, and Arpaçay). These localities were visited once during the study period, and fresh faecal samples were taken from the rectums of the calves up to 3 months old. A total of 200 wild pigeons, 82 young and 118 adults, captured from 12 localities in Ankara District, were examined for blood parasites. Haemoproteus columbae was found in 57% (114/200) of the pigeons examined, and no other blood parasites were detected.

In this study, neuronal nitric oxide synthase using the highly specific polyclonal nature of an antibody is observed mainly in laminae I-II_i, lamina X and in the intermediolateral cell column of the thoraco-lumbar spinal cord. In this study, the induced antibody level of rainbow trout immunized by Yersinia ruckeri bacterin was determined using two serological techniques, namely, indirect fluorescent antibody (IFAT) and enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA). The induced humoral antibody levels were studied after intraperitonal injection of Yersinia ruckeri bacterin inoculates containing Freund's incomplete adjuvant or PBS in rainbow trout during the experimental period of 20 weeks. The control and experimental groups each contained 20 fish. The group which was immunized by the PBS containing bacterin inoculate received a booster injection.
