This study investigates polyneuropathy in patients with unilateral diabetic foot ulcer by using electrophysiological methods and discusses whether electrophysiological parameters are predictive of diabetic foot ulcer development. Materials and methods: Fifty-two diabetic patients with unilateral diabetic foot ulcers (31 females, 21 males; mean age of 58.5 years) were included in the study. Results: In the upper extremities, motor fibers were affected in 82% and sensorial fibers were affected in 85% of the subjects. Malaria is prevalent in the tropical and subtropical regions of the world and has been associated with some haematological changes. This study determined the effect of malaria infection on haematological values amongst children in north-western Nigeria. Materials and methods: Fifty-eight malaria-infected children, aged 1–12 years, and 58 age-matched uninfected children were studied between September and December 2011 at Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital, Kano. To assess the ability of honey to reduce pain and promote epithelialization on posttonsillectomy wounds. Materials and methods: A prospective randomized control study was conducted on 60 patients undergoing tonsillectomy from November 2007 to September 2008 at University Malaya Medical Centre. The test group received honey application on the tonsillar bed and the control group had placebo applied. The pain relief was analyzed along with the amount of analgesia consumed, and wound epithelialization was monitored and recorded accordingly. We designed this study to evaluate the role of mean platelet volume (MPV) as a fibrosis marker in patients with chronic hepatitis C (CHC). Materials and methods: The study was designed at Kayseri Education and Research Hospital. Ninety-five patients with CHC were enrolled retrospectively into the study. The control group comprised 33 age- and sex-matched healthy individuals. To evaluate whether nerve-sparing radical prostatectomy (NSRP) results in a residual tumor in the remaining neurovascular bundle (NVB). Materials and methods: A total of 88 patients underwent bilateral NSRP. The ipsilateral NVB was excised uni-/bilaterally on the tumor side, separately. Factors affecting NVB involvement were evaluated. Results: The mean patient age and preoperative serum prostate specific antigen (PSA) were 63.8 ± 6.2 years (49-76) and 12.9 ± 9.4 ng/mL (2.4-45.5), respectively. Digital rectal examination (DRE) suggested nodules in 34 patients (38.6%). To evaluate the prevalence, spectrum, and significance of incidental lesions identified on electron beam tomography (EBT) renal angiography performed to investigate renovascular hypertension. Materials and methods: EBT renal angiography images of 148 cases were evaluated in terms of renal artery variations and renal artery stenosis. Extravascular renal findings, abdominal aorta, iliac artery, liver and gallbladder findings, vertebral lesions, and other intraabdominal organ findings were assessed during the examination. Results: No incidental finding was found in 30 cases (20.2%) in total. The most frequent incidental findings were benign ones without any clinical significance. Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) is a common disease with increasing prevalence and mortality. We aimed to determine COPD prevalence in primary health care centers. Materials and methods: Pulmonary function tests (PFTs) and face-to-face interviews were administered to 500 patients older than 40 years of age and attending a primary health care center with any symptoms. An early reversibility test was performed on patients with a forced expiratory volume in 1 s/forced vital capacity (FEV1/FVC) ratio below 70%. To determine the occurrences of depression experienced by women during the postpartum period and the risk factors that affect the development of this depression. Materials and methods: The study involved 330 women who had recently given birth in a hospital in 2007. The women were contacted 3 times in total: on postpartum day 1 (face to face) and in weeks 2 and 6 (by phone). Tinea capitis is a superficial scalp dermatophyte infection. Tinea capitis is particularly seen during childhood and is not usually seen after puberty. In untreated cases, it can be contagious and can progress to cicatricial alopecia. This study aimed to retrospectively evaluate cases of tinea capitis. Materials and methods: We evaluated 104 tinea capitis patients presenting to our dermatology clinic between 2007 and 2011. Results: Of these patients, 38 (36.5%) were female and 66 (63.5%) were male. Although parenchymal sparing surgery is the most appropriate for the treatment of hydatid cysts, rarely lobectomy is needed. We aimed to retrospectively evaluate the cases in which we had to perform lobectomy due to hydatid cyst. Materials and methods: A total of 36 (1.88%) patients that underwent lobectomy (n = 35) and pneumonectomy (n = 1) from among 1909 patients operated on for hydatid cyst in our hospital between 1992 and 2012 were retrospectively evaluated. A serological investigation of equine infectious anaemia (EIA), equine viral arteritis (EAV), glanders, and dourine was conducted on the sera of 346 Turkish horses using a combination of tests in series (ELISA and agar gel immunodiffusion) for EIA, virus neutralisation for EAV, and complement fixation (CF) for glanders and dourine. Forty-nine sera showed anticomplementary reactions and were not assessable in the CF test for glanders and dourine. No positive samples were detected for EIA, dourine, and glanders. This study was performed via a survey conducted of a total of 112 cattle operations in Kars and the vicinity and included a total of 2317 head, of which 280 were determined to have foot problems. The financial loss incurred per operation was calculated in accordance with the data obtained. As a result, the prevalence of foot disease encountered in cattle in the region in 2010 was determined to be 12.08%, and although it varied depending on the severity of the foot diseases, the animals were healed in an average of 46.5 days. This study investigated the morphological topographic features of the vesicular glands (gll. vesiculosae) in 10 sexually mature and clinically healthy male New Zealand White rabbits, aged 12 months, with body weights from 2.8 kg to 3.2 kg. The glands were observed by ultrasonography in 2 planes, transversal and sagittal. The approach was percutaneous transabdominal prepubic. The rabbit vesicular glands were visualized as a solid heterogeneous echoic finding. The case consisted of a 1-month-old female llama with a left distal diaphyseal forearm fracture caused by trauma. Clinical and radiographic examination confirmed the presence of a distal fracture of the left radius and ulna. Treatment was carried out by combining internal and external fixation techniques. Successful fracture healing was achieved without any complications using this method of treatment, which has not been reported before.

Archaeological excavations at the site of Yenikapı, the most important main station for Metro and Marmaray projects on the European side of İstanbul, were started in 2004 with the discovery of numerous shipwrecks, amphorae, and skeletal remains belonging to animals. The findings from the excavations conducted by the İstanbul Archaeological Museums of the General Directorate of Cultural Heritage and Museums proved that this site, known in the Ottoman period as 'Langa Bostanları', was actually the ancient harbor of Theodosius. The palatine tonsils of 220 pigs were examined for the occurrence of Streptococcus suis and other Streptococcus species. Samples were cultured onto Colombia agar plates with 5% defibrinated horse blood and selective antibiotic supplement and were incubated at 37 °C for 24-48 h aerobically. Presumptive colonies were identified using API20 Strep (bioMérieux). S. suis was not detected in any of the 220 palatine tonsils examined. S. porcinus was the most common streptococcus recovered and was isolated from 68 (31%) pigs. The case of a patellar fracture in a 2-year-old male Chow Chow dog was reported. Clinical examination showed a few superficial wounds, erythema, a slight edema on the lateral aspect of the knee joint, and mild to moderate limping in the right hind leg. The patella was palpated more proximally than expected, while an acute ridge was felt at its distal pole. X-ray examination indicated that it had been fractured into 3 fragments. A 10-year-old mongrel dog was presented with signs of vomiting, prostration, anorexia, abdominal pain, dyspnea, dysuria, and enhanced scrotal volume. Clinical, laboratory, and radiological examinations showed intrascrotal testicular pathology and chronic renal failure. Emergency treatment was carried out; however, the patient died. Necropsy diagnosed an intrascrotal testicular torsion and seminoma. The aim of the present report is to describe an intrascrotal testicular torsion associated with chronic renal failure in a dog.

Histological changes in bone structure were induced at 12 weeks by experimental administration of bisphosphonates, which have been associated with osteonecrosis of the jaws. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of local administration of bisphosphonate on bone formation in rats. Surgically created bone defects were evaluated at 12 weeks by histological examination after bisphosphonate administration. This study aimed to determine milk yield, fertility, lamb growth, survival rate, and the effect of environmental factors on these parameters in the Awassi sheep of the Central Anatolian Region. The fertility parameters were determined to be as follows: heat rate, pregnancy rate, parturition rate, single-born rate, twinning rate, abortion rate, lamb rate, and number of lambs per parturition, based on the number of ewes assigned for mating, were 100%, 93.8%, 90.5%, 79.7%, 20.3%, 1.4%, 108.8%, and 1.20%, respectively. The survival rates of lambs at 60 and 120 days of age were 88.3% and 84.5%, respectively. The average lactation milk …
