This study was undertaken to investigate the changes in the microbiological and sensorial attributes of fresh chicken carcasses immersed in decontamination solutions, followed by packaging in plastic bags in which decontamination solution was added during storage at 4 °C. The samples were taken on days 0, 3, 7, and 10 for microbiological and sensory attributes. Results showed that there was a limited antimicrobial effect on microbial flora in the treatment groups within the first 3 days of storage compared to the control group. Osteopontin gene (OPN) is located in the quantitative trait loci (QTL) for milk production traits in bovine chromosome 6. In the present study the impact of cytosine to thymine transition in the intron-4 of OPN gene (g.8514C > T) on milk production traits was analysed in the Holstein Friesian crossbred cattle of Kerala. Genomic DNA was isolated and a fragment of 290 bp enclosing the polymorphic site was amplified and genotyped by restriction fragment length polymorphism (RFLP) using endonuclease, BSeN1. The main cause of larva migrans syndrome (LMS) in humans is represented by Toxocara spp. found in dogs and cats. In the present study, the effects of three disinfectants based on quaternary ammonium compounds (Kohrsolin® FF, Trioton$^{®}$ rapid AF and Terralin$^{®}$ protect) and one based on propanol and ethanol (Bacillol$^{®}$), against Toxocaracanis and Toxocaracati eggs, were tested. These disinfectants have a strong antimicrobial and virucidal action. Two different exposure times and different concentrations for solutions were used. The objective of this study was to detect Mycoplasma bovis specific antibodies using a recently reported MilA ELISA with the aim to detect M. bovis antibodies in milk. An indirect ELISA, based on a recombinant fragment of the Mycoplasma immunogenic lipase A (MilA) protein, was conducted on 291 milk samples for the detection of M. bovis antibodies. Samples were also tested with conventional Mycoplasma culture and M. bovis PCR. Samples were collected from individual cows from 2 commercial dairy herds in South Australia. In genomic studies, complex traits can be modelled using repeated measures, thereby gaining a better understanding of the underlying biology. An increased number of measurements per individual might reduce measurement noise, thus increasing the likelihood of detecting true genomic signals. Here we aimed to predict genomic signals over a logistic curve referring to multiple underlying genetic architectures, for both simulated and longitudinal egg weight datasets. The aim of the study was to investigate the effects of thyme oil and black cumin oil that are added to broiler rations at certain ratios, on performance (body weight, body weight gain, feed intake, feed conversion ratio, mortality, European Production Efficiency Factor (EPEF), histomorphological parameters of jejunum and ileum, and cecal short-chain fatty acid (SCFA) concentrations. The objective of this study was to reveal the effect of milk urea levels on the fertility of dairy cows, taking into account their age, herd production level, number of cows, season of first insemination, which were analyzed using data from the SYMLEK national system. The study included data on milk urea levels in 88,745 test-day yields of 55,685 Holstein?Friesian cows, which were milked up to 30 days before first insemination, during the period preceding 180 days of first and second lactation. Herbal Feed Additives Containing Tannins: Impact On In Vitro Fermentation And Methanemitigation From Total Mixed Ration, Manju Wadhwa, Prabh Kaur Sidhu, Mohinder Pal Singh Bakshi

Total mixed ration (TMR) containing roughage and concentrate mixture in a 65: 35 ratio on dry matter (DM) basis was supplemented with herbal feed additives [(HFAs); Acacia catechu (Katha), Areca catechu (Supari), and Acacia nilotica (Babul)] at 0-4% on DM basis to assess their impact on fermentation pattern and methane production by using in vitro gas production technique. Areca catechu had the highest (P < 0.01) concentration of condensed tannins (CTs), saponins, and vitamin C as compared to other HFAs. The net gas production (NGP), digestibility of NDF and true OM, and ME availability, partitioning factor (PF), volatile fatty acids (VFAs), and microbial biomass production were higher (P < 0.01) at 24 h as compared to t-half incubation, irrespective of type and level of HFAs supplemented. Acacia nilotica had an edge over Acacia catechu with respect to digestibility of nutrients and ME availability. VFAs production and efficiency of rumen fermentation was the highest from the Areca catechu-supplemented TMR. Irrespective of type of HFAs and incubation period, the digestibility of NDF and that of true OM were highest (P < 0.01) at the 1% level of supplementation, but depressed thereafter. Amongst HFAs-supplemented groups, VFA production and fermentation efficiency were highest at the 2% level. The results conclusively revealed that supplementing Areca catechu and Acacia nilotica at 2% of TMR (DM basis) inhibited the methane production, without affecting the fermentation pattern.

The aim of this study was to investigate the antimicrobial and antibiofilm activities of 10 different lactic acid bacteria (LAB) strains isolated from local food sources of animal origin against 4 Enterobacter cloacae isolates obtained from clinical cases and determine their adhesion potentials to intestinal epithelial cells. In this study, all Enterobacter cloacae isolates (P3, P4, P5, P7) identified with the BD Phoenix automation system were detected to form biofilm with both Congo red agar and Microtiter plate methods. The prostate glands of buffalo bulls were collected from an abattoir immediately after slaughter and were fixed in 10% neutral buffered formalin for paraffin block preparation by an acetone-benzene schedule. In this study, blood samples collected from dromedary camels in the Algerian provinces of Laghouat and Ghardaia, which were kept in the same pastures and in the same herds with sheep and goats, were examined to detect antibodies to the Bluetongue (BT) and Akabane (AKA) viruses using enzyme linked immunosorbent assay and serum neutralization tests, respectively. Overall, 16 (14.4%) and 2 (1.8%) of 111 tested camel serum samples were seropositive for the BT virus (BTV) and the AKA virus (AKAV), respectively. The objective of this study was to evaluate the long-term outcomes in dogs with cranial cruciate ligament injury in which the stifle was stabilized with lateral suture stabilization, lateral suture stabilization-modified, or Securos lateral bone anchor tibial suture and monofilament nylon sutures placed at quasi-isometric points of the stifle. It is a retrospective study comprising a sample population of 49 client-owned dogs. Cows were treated with follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH) in a single dose and then subjected to ovum pick-up (OPU) for evaluation of oocyte recovery and in vitro fertilization (IVF). Cows underwent OPU followed by application of FSH (200 mg) on day 2 and new OPU on day 3. This methodology was repeated 3 times sequentially. In FSH-free the cows (control), OPU was performed at intervals of one week. The number of oocytes recovered was higher in the control cows (22.2 ± 1.5) compared to the treated cows (16.9 ± 1.4; P < 0.05). The purpose of this study was to highlight the effects of natural plant essential oils (EOs) on sous-vide sea bass (Dicentrarchus labrax) fillets. Three different treatments were prepared by addition of: 1) no essential oil (C), 2) laurel (Laurus nobilis) EO (L), and 3) basil (Ocimum basilicum) EO (B). In general, incorporation of the EOs did not cause significant changes in the proximate composition (P > 0.05). The addition of L caused a darker and more greenish-yellow colour, while addition of B did not have a considerable alteration in colour parameters. A male mixed breed street dog (age unknown) presented with an ocular mass and multiple ulcerated subcutaneous nodules on both hind limbs which bled easily when touched. Inspection of the genital organs revealed that no masses were present. The ocular mass and nodules were diagnosed as a transmissible venereal tumor (TVT) by fine-needle aspiration cytology. The total remission of the tumor was achieved after 5 applications of vincristine sulfate. Despite extensive research on the reproductive health of domestic animals, embryonic mortality continues to be a problem that brings about significant losses for both commercial breeding and scientific research. This review paper discusses the genetic and environmental factors that affect embryo mortality rates in sheep along with the different techniques developed to overcome this issue. Additionally, one of the objectives of this study is to emphasize the importance of the use of time-lapse cinematography and color Doppler ultrasonography as quick and reliable methods for early detection of pregnancy and embryonic death.

A study was conducted to evaluate the changes in serum biochemical and lipid profile, and fatty acid composition of breast meat of broiler chickens fed supplemental grape seed extract (GSE). A total of 240 1-day-old male broiler chickens were randomly allocated to 4 groups, each consisting of 4 replicate pens having 15 birds/replicate pen. This study aimed to demonstrate the expression profiles of lincRNAs and mRNAs affecting milk yield and composition traits in the milk-derived exosomes of Holstein and Doğu Anadolu Kırmızısı (DAK) cows. For this purpose, the locations of these specific lincRNAs and mRNAs were confirmed in quantitative trait loci. Then RT-PCR analysis was performed to identify the expression profiles of the lincRNAs and mRNAs. Lastly, correlation analysis was carried out between milk yield data from Holstein and DAK cows and expression levels of the lincRNAs and mRNAs. Effects Of Boron Compounds And Ozonated Olive Oil On Experimental Microsporum Canis Infection In Rats, Ayhan Hi̇lal Gezer, Abuzer Acar

This study aimed to investigate the treatment outcomes of topical application of boric acid, boron-doped gel, and ozonated olive oil in cases of Microsporum canis -induced dermatophytosis. Furthermore, the outcomes were compared to those of terbinafine administration. We included 39 female Wistar albino rats weighing 200-250 g and created an M. canis-infected area on the skin of their backs. The rats were clinically scored on days 0, 7, 14, 21, and 28 and underwent histopathological evaluation. All the treated groups demonstrated significantly lower clinical scores than the control group (P < 0.05). Fewer inflammation cells were observed in the samples of groups treated with 3% boric acid and sodium pentaborate pentahydrate gel than in those of the control group. According to the histopathological evaluation, the groups treated with 3% boric acid and sodium pentaborate pentahydrate gel were statistically different from the control and other treatment groups (P < 0.05). Our results indicated that treatment with 3% boric acid and sodium pentaborate gel was adequate in resolving M. canis -induced infection in rats. Therefore, gels containing 3% boric acid and sodium pentaborate pentahydrate may be alternatives to antifungal agents such as terbinafine by ensuring easy, reliable, inexpensive, and effective treatment modalities.
