The common grass frog, Rana pipiens as wall as the bull frog, Rana catesbiana have served during many decades as material from which both the student of zoology and the investigator in biological problems have gathered valuable information about the anatomy and physiology of the common systems. Among these systems the central, peripheral, and sympathetic nervous system plays a coordinating role, because of the ramifying nature of its organization. In a wide sense, respiration is sometimes defined as the gaseous exchange constantly taking place between an organism and its environment. Essentially it is concerned with the intake of oxygen and the output of carbon dioxide but it also includes any other gas exchange that might occur. The microscopy of the malignant cell has received the attention of large numbers of investigators, who have sought some definite morphological criterion of malignancy. The early literature of cancer research contains descriptions of abnormal cell structures and cytological processes which have been regarded as distinctive of cancerous growth. Subsequent investigations, however, have failed to establish any precise cytological diagnostic characteristic of cancer. All laboratory details and procedures of denture construction, including preparation of various gold alloys, plaster of Paris, making of artificial teeth, compounding of rubber, and numerous other processes, were then considered routine duties in the practice of dentistry. The fact that dissimilar metallic restorations in the same mouth gives rise to electrogalvanic symptoms has been recognized for over one hundred years. Nineteenth century and early twentieth century accounts describe these phenomena more or less at length. However, it was not until the last decade that some attempt was made to correlate these electric phenomena with oral lesions such as leukoplakia, buccal ulcer and even carcinoma.

Mathematics and the medical field are now linking hands at the Marquette University School of Medicine to combat the diseases and organic disorders which.have in the past taken such a toll in unnecessary deaths. Dr. Armand J. Quick of the Pharmacology department and the author have set out to discover the amount of prothrombin in blood necessary to coagulate it. It is the first time that mathematics has been applied to this field.
