This work was done in the laboratory and in the field and includes questions of development, behavior, and viability of ticks, their propagation and season of attack.

H. marginatum: Two-host tick, larvae and nymphs parasitize mainly birds, also hares, adults on, all kinds of domestic animals.

This tick inhabits the southern areas of the Soviet Union. Northern boundary of mass propagation is 46 to 49.5° northern latitude and yearly isotherms +90. G-reene Vardiman Black was born on a humble Illinois farm in Scott County, on August 3, 1836, and there spent a normal childhood. At the age of seventeen, he began his studies which culminated in obtaining the following degrees: Doctor of Dental Surgery from the Missouri Dental College in 1877; Doctor of Medicine from the Chicago Medical College in 1884; Doctor of Science from the Illinois College in 1892; and Doctor of Letters and Law from Northwestern University in 1898. Nebraska Agricultural Experiment Station: Historical Circulars

Hogs are one of Nebraska's principal sources of agricultural income. The popularity of the pig is doubtless due largely to his efficiency as a meat producer. He uses less feed to make a given gain than either the steer or the sheep. On being slaughtered, the pig dresses out a higher percentage of meat than either of the other two meat animals. Since pork is generally fatter than beef or lamb, it has a higher energy value. Pork lends itself to curing processes and, as cured meat and lard, occupies an important place in the world's commerce.
