The purpose of this study was to find recorded data on students' records in a selected Seventh-day Adventist church-sponsored secondary school which could be of acceptable value in curriculum improvement in health education.

A survey method of research was chosen with the study of two available records which were: (1) The Medical Examination Records and (2) the Mooney Problem Check List. The Medical Examination Records were filled out by students' private physicians on their first admission to the school; the Mooney Problem Check List were administered by the school on October 24, 1961. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the relative effectiveness of two methods of administration of the cooling bath for reducing fever due to infection. Fifteen infants and children age six months to three years with rectal temperatures of 101 degrees Fahrenheit or over were included in the study.

The experimental method with a retroactive comparison of a parallel group was the research approach used. For a previous study by Kueffner, seven subjects had been immersed in tubs of water 95 degrees Fahrenheit which was gradually reduced to 75 degrees Fahrenheit, each subject remaining in the tub a total …

This study was concerned with the problem of determining what understandings the bedside nurse has of the principles involved in the prevention of pressure sores. Since pressure sores are still a problem in nursing care, a study such as this was needed to ascertain the knowledge of the bedside nurse relative to their prevention. A study of the pattern of malocclusion of the six lower permanent anterior teeth in subjects with malocclusion and no history of orthodontic treatment was undertaken to determine if the malocclusion of these teeth occurred in a random manner or followed a definite regular pattern.

The problem was approached epidemiologically by studying the positions assumed by the teeth in 408 males and females age 12 to 23. The subjects of this investigation were enrolled as students in the grammar school, academy, college and university system of the Pacific Union Conference of Seventh-day Adventists.

It was the purpose of this study to identify the emotional needs of patients with infectious hepatitis through the use of nursing process studies. The information obtained, it was hoped, would be helpful in giving nurses better insight into the emotional needs of these patients and to give a basis for planning nursing care.

The descriptive survey was the method used; the tool, the nursing process study. Nursing care was given to six patients between the ages of 18 and 45 who had infectious hepatitis without other complications.

The Problem: This study was designed to ascertain which of two pre-catheterization cleansing procedures now in common use for the female patient is more effective in producing an area relatively free of microorganisms.

The Need: Indications of need for the study were: (1) an increasing body of literature linking catheterization with frequent urinary tract infections, many of which are "silent" but have extremely serious sequelae; (2) lack of uniformity in defining adequate pre-catheterization cleansing; and (3) absence of any recorded research to determine an adequate cleansing technique.

An experimental study was conducted to find the variations in air temperature which occur within Croupettes during treatment of infants and small children with respiratory infections, and to discover some of the factors which influence change of air temperature. Fifty children, two months to three years of age, all of whom suffered respiratory illness and all of whom received Croupette therapy were included in the study. The magnitude, and manner of application of forces effects the whole complex picture of tooth movement. Proper mechanical management in terms of the individual tooth as well as the entire arch, must be kept in mind. When applying forces for producing individual tooth movement as desired in cuspid retraction, we must consider the nature of the biological resistance in terms of the force distribution in the periodontal membrane as well as the force magnitudes necessary for efficient tissue response.

It was the purpose of this study to investigate reasons for the choice of a first position by graduates from diploma programs in nursing. This included factors motivating the choice, the time of choice, and reasons for liking and disliking clinical areas. Questionnaires were mailed to 756 graduates of the class of 1961 from twenty-three representative schools. Approximately 46 percent were returned completed.

Major findings were as follows:

This study was conducted to discover the effects of (1) an interpersonal relationship and (2) an interpersonal relationship and music therapy on preoperative patients in a selected hospital.

The descriptive survey was chosen as the method of study. A checklist and a tape recording of selected music were used as a tool of research. Two groups of preoperative patients were given nursing care by the researcher. Patients in Group One received care with an aim toward developing an interpersonal relationship, while patients in Group Two received the same as Group One with the addition of music therapy.

The bactericidal antibody test depends on the presence of sufficient complement, magnesium ions, and specific antibody to produce killing of certain gram negative bacilli. This study was undertaken to demonstrate whether or not Salmonella pullorum is an organism which is susceptible to this killing action.

Different amounts of test serum containing antibody, constant amounts of complement and magnesium saline diluent were placed together and held in a 37°C water bath for a one hour reaction time. It was the purpose of this survey to find out the awareness of a selected group of Seventh-day Adventist women regarding the importance of cervical smear examinations in cancer detection; and to identify the need for health teaching in the prevention and control of uterine cervical cancer among women of this group. This study was done for the purpose of analyzing stated factors of deterrence to early antepartum clinic attendance by mothers who attended a selected antepartum care after the twenty-eighth week of pregnancy were selected for this study.

The normative survey was the method chosen for the study and the interview technique was used to obtain the data from the study.

The purpose of this study was to ascertain whether a combination of grade point averages from high school and one year of prescribed courses in a liberal arts college could be used as a tool in the prediction of scholastic success in two selected schools of nursing.

A descriptive survey of grades and test results was done on 121 students from these schools. The nursing school CPA and results from the state board test pool were used as criteria of success. Total GPA's from secondary school and college, and grades in English, science and non-science subjects were the predictors.

The purpose of this survey was twofold (1) to find out what knowledge the pediatric nurse has regarding selected medications which she is administering, and (2) to make recommendations relative to drug knowledge for in-service education programs in hospitals.

The data regarding abdication knowledge as collected by using a checklist form developed for this study and administered to seventeen graduate nurses in three selected hospitals each supervising a pediatric unit.
