Listening Lessons In Connected Speech For Puerto Rican College Students For The Purpose Of Improving Aural Comprehension In English, Margaret F. Tucker
Speech and Hearing Sciences ETDs
The University of Puerto Rico English staff members who are preparing teachers for the Island school system are concerned about the lack of effective training techniques which will develop the student's listening ability and thereby sharpen his comprehension of spoken English. Appropriate listening lessons to improve their understanding of connected speech are needed. The purpose of this study is to investigate the following hypothesis:
That additional materials for listening discrimination are needed for teaching English to Puerto Rican college students, and that paragraph listening lessons will provide varied auditory experience for sound discrimination training in learning English as a second …

Areas Of Knowledge And Skills Essential To Occupational Therapists In Clinical Psychiatry --A Critical Study Of 395 Performance Examples, Elizabeth A. Boles
Masters Theses
Introduction
Occupational therapy, an allied medical discipline, has experienced rapid growth in the slightly more than forty years of its existence. The impetus given to this field through the training of World War I reconstruction aides, the forerunners of professional occupational therapists, has been described by Willard and Spackman.1 These authors state that the inauguration of the first collegiate training program took place at Milwaukee Downer College in 1913. By 1921 a national professional organization had been formed,2 and by 1938 four schools of occupational therapy had been accredited, based on standards set up by the American Medical …

A Study Of Postpartum Uterine Massage, Beverly Eugenia Blake
Loma Linda University Electronic Theses, Dissertations & Projects
The purpose of this study was to determine if there is a significant difference in the amount of postpartum bleeding between two methods of uterine massage and no uterine massage. The experimental method with parallel groups technique and a single variable was used. The criterion used in determining the amount of bleeding was the volume of red cells lost.
The study was conducted at St. Bernardine's Hospital using three experimental groups selected from one hundred and nineteen deliveries between January 25 and March 2, 1963. Group A was composed of sixteen patients whose uterus' were externally held for one hour …

Identification Of Needs In High Risk Prematures Significant To Public Health Nursing Follow-Up, Vida Francis
Loma Linda University Electronic Theses, Dissertations & Projects
Experts in the field of prematurity have stressed the need for an intensive follow-up program for premature infants after discharge from the hospital and cited the important role that public nurses can play. It was hypothesized that there are needs of high risk premature infant significant to public health nursing follow-up.
The descriptive survey method and an interview schedule was the selected manner for obtaining necessary data. The sample was chosen from high risk premature infants attending the Premature Clinic at the White Memorial Hospital. The selected infants had birth wrights of 1,500 grams of less, were under one year …

Loma Linda University Electronic Theses, Dissertations & Projects
The purpose of this study was to provide a historical reference on the origin, development, and objectives of the School of Nutrition and Dietetics from the beginning of the first dietetic program in 1908 to that of the present.
Three methods were employed in this study: the historical, interview, and questionnaire. The main historical source material was obtained from the Historical Records Office in the Library of Loma Linda University. The material consisted of selected letters of the administrators of the College and leaders in the dietetic programs. There is a greater amount of board minutes, annual bulletins, and documents. …
