Breast cancer (BC) remains a leading cause of cancer-related mortality in women worldwide. Scutellaria barbata, a traditional Chinese medicinal herb, possesses recognized anticancer properties, but its mechanistic role in BC is not fully elucidated. This study employed an integrated in silico approach to identify the key flavonoids, targets, and pathways through which S. barbata exerts its anti-BC effects. A multi-step computational methodology incorporating network pharmacology, molecular docking, and dynamics simulations was utilized to profile bioactive compounds from S. barbata. From an initial set of 34 phytocompounds, three flavonoids namely apigenin, 4’-hydroxywogonin, and hispidulin demonstrated favorable drug-likeness, high bioavailability, …

Background: Extant approaches to close the gap between implementation evidence and practice have been unsuccessful due in part to overreliance on researcher engagement. In practice, change is often driven by mid-level managers. We developed Context-Driven Co-Design (CD2) to equip mid-level managers with a theory- and evidence-based approach to implementation planning.
Methods: We used a two-pronged design. First, we engaged six established implementation researchers in a modified Delphi process, involving two hour-long meetings and asynchronous feedback to develop and refine a CD2 prototype. Second, we piloted an in-person CD2 training and conducted an hour-long focus group to solicit feedback from mid-level …
Impact Of Anatomical Changes On Treatment Plan Robustness: A Comparative Study Of Intensity Modulated Proton Therapy And Volumetric Modulated Arc Therapy In Head And Neck Cancer., Jennifer Croft
Masters Projects
Head and neck cancer patients often experience anatomical changes during radiation therapy, including weight loss and tumor regression. These changes can alter planned dose distribution and affect treatment accuracy. Based on the previous understanding, IMPT offers highly conformal dose delivery but is sensitive to the patient’s geometry changes and daily setup uncertainties, while VMAT may provide greater stability under these uncertainties. However, as of today, there is no quantitative analysis and comparison between the two modalities using real clinical data. The purpose of this study is to compare the robustness of IMPT and VMAT for head and neck cancer by …

Early and accurate diagnosis for spinal muscular atrophy (SMA) has gained relevance in an era of emerging therapies to improve patient outcomes. While screening of dried blood spots (DBS) effectively detects deletion-type SMA, non-deletion cases are often missed. Mutation screening from DBS is needed to address this gap. Here, we aimed to evaluate the feasibility of an in-house, cellulose-based card for direct Sanger sequencing for variant hunting, avoiding DNA extraction and offering an alternative to commercial cards. As a proof of concept, sequences obtained from DBSs of 23 healthy individuals were compared with sequences derived from isolated genomic DNA (gDNA). …

Background: Pediatric-onset multiple sclerosis (POMS) is a chronic, progressive neurologic condition requiring lifelong management and coordinated transition from pediatric to adult care. Evidence-based guidelines identify transition readiness assessment as a core component of successful transition; however, most POMS clinics do not formally assess readiness, and existing tools do not address POMS-specific challenges, such as fluctuating disability, complex treatment regimens, and cognitive impairment. This gap underscores the need for a transition readiness measure tailored to POMS.
Objective: This paper aims to describe a stakeholder-engaged, implementation science-guided protocol for adapting the Transition Readiness Assessment Questionnaire (TRAQ) version 6.0 to reflect the unique …
Closing The Gaps: Reforming Maryland Controls On Veterinary Antimicrobial Distribution, Samantha Capaldo, Kerry Mcclaughry
Closing The Gaps: Reforming Maryland Controls On Veterinary Antimicrobial Distribution, Samantha Capaldo, Kerry Mcclaughry
Journal of Food Law & Policy
Antimicrobials have been used in livestock and other food animals in the United States (“U.S.”) since the late 1940s. An antimicrobial is “[a]ny natural, synthetic, or semisynthetic substance that can eradicate or prevent the growth of microbes,” including “[a]ntibacterial, antifungal, antiparasitic, and antiviral medications.” Antimicrobial use in food animals is subject to a complex statutory and regulatory framework at both the state and federal levels. Antimicrobial use in food animals has been widely criticized for contributing to antimicrobial-resistant bacterial infections in humans. In response to this criticism, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (“FDA”) and several states, including Maryland, have …

I Cry At Night Before You: Theologies Of Depression In The Psalms, Travis Spillum Osb
Obsculta
This work looks to the Psalms to discover theologies that resonate with experiences of depression. If one struggling with depression feels as if God is angry with them, that their condition is oppressing them, that loved ones have abandoned them, or that God's love for them is wavering, they can utilize the psalmist's words to voice their feelings and express their anguish in prayer to a God who is seemingly deaf to their groaning.

Introduction Introducing surgical skills early in medical training may enhance students' confidence and readiness for clinical training. Simulation-based skill workshops provide students with a comfortable learning environment, resulting in effective learning. The goal of the Surgical Skills Workshop was to provide first- and second-year medical students with hands-on exposure to essential surgical skills. The educational impact on medical students' confidence in performing the respective surgical skills and changes in surgical career interest was assessed.
Methods: First- and second-year medical students at the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley School of Medicine participated in a hands-on surgical skills workshop comprising eight …

BACKGROUND: Physician shadowing is a common component of early medical education and frequently represents students' first exposure to clinical practice. Despite its prevalence, existing guidance primarily targets learners rather than physicians supervising shadowing experiences. This gap is especially relevant in the emergency department (ED), where high patient acuity, workflow demands, and complex clinical environments create challenges for providing safe and meaningful observational learning. We sought to develop consensus-based best practice recommendations for ED faculty supervising medical student shadowing.
METHODS: We conducted a modified Delphi study using an online survey platform to achieve panelist consensus. Ten emergency medicine educators with a …

We explored inclusive qualitative data collection strategies for autistic emerging adults (ages 18–25) to identify nutrition-related resource needs and inform intervention development. We conducted Zoom interviews with autistic emerging adults, their caregivers, and service providers. We co-developed recruitment materials with a community advisory board of autistic advocates and offered and adapted interview accommodations in real time to align with participants’ preferences. Common accommodations included receiving questions in advance and in the chat, having a caregiver present, and simplifying questions. Some techniques used with neurotypical participants translated well to our participants, such as reflective listening, a conversational tone, and allowing pauses; …
