This study investigated changes in ankle skin temperature during and following various durations of therapeutic cold application. Surface temperature was measured with a telethermister on the ankles of 10 male subjects during five treatment conditions. Experimental conditions involved the application of an ice pack to the ankle for 10, 20, 30, 45, and 60 minutes. Each subject was tested under all five treatment conditions utilizing a balanced Latin Square design. Subjects were required to lie at rest in a supine manner with both ankles elevated six inches above the treatment table. Following a 30 minute pre-treatment period, ice packs were …

The purpose of this study was to explore the current status and future potential of the relationship between attendant care and occupational therapy. Survey results showed that a large number of occupational therapists and in independent living centers, and that there is potential for an increase of occupational therapy involvement in attendant care.

以電腦定量判讀方法檢查正常對象及慢性神經根病變患者，分別就肱三頭肌(biceps brachii)、總伸指肌(extenser digitorum communis)及脛前肌(anterior tibial-is)所出現之多相波，比較兩組對象之波幅(amplitude)、間期(duration)、多相波發生率、表面積(surface area)、相數(phases)、轉折數(Turns)及尖端期間(Peak-duration)、皆有明顯的統計學差異。本文並討論造成此差異之原因。

左大腦損傷與右大腦損傷之中風病人智能狀態的比較, 以雯 袁, 瑞棋 詹, 道昌 徐

本研究修改Comprehensive Mental Status Examination，對81名因為中風而接受榮總復健治療的病人進行測驗，比較左、右大腦損傷對智力所造成的影響。所有的病人都是第一次受傷，單側受損，以右手為優勢手，測驗時病人身體狀況均已穩定，神智清醒。病人年齡分佈為3i歲至75歲，平均60.08±7.68歲。教育程度小學以下者13人，小學程度12人，初中14人，高中21人，大專14人，另有7人為不能確定其教育程度者。病人從發病至接受測驗之時間間隔為6日至90日，平均26.26±16.71日。81名病人中有32人為右腦損傷，49人為左腦受損者，49人中有18入為失語症患者。兩半球受損的病人在教育程度、年齡及時間間隔上均無顯著差異。 測驗結果，右腦損傷者在注意力項目中的digit repitition，語言項目中的naming，記憶項目中的orientation，remotememory，new learning ability，建構能力中的drawing to command及高層次認知活動中的每一項目都是以右腦損傷的病人表現較佳，兩組的差異達統計上顯著水準。 對測驗題目作因素分析(factor analysis)，抽出語言、抽象思考，空間關係及記憶保存四大因素。這些因素的發現，並配合大腦功能的劃分，可以解釋兩組病人在測驗上的差異。失語症病人除去之後，兩組差異不顯著，對這種現象，文內有進一步的說明。

4歲以上接受治療的構音異常患者，男性有70例，女性有37例，合計107例。其中有鼻音缺乏症狀者31.8%。錯誤音的個數由2到25個，平均為12.5個音。治療的方法為(1)聽覺區分訓練，(2)發言訓練，(3)節奏訓練。治療後患者有很大的進步，42.1%的患者完全治療，61.7%的患者治療率超過 50%以上。治療時間每次30分鐘，達到完全治療所需之治癒次數後6次到105次，平均為29．0次，女性較男性所需之平均治療次數少。治癒率愈高，所需之治療次數愈多。有鼻音缺乏症狀，在治療時對男性沒有影響，'對女性則會使治療次數增加很多。患者錯誤音的個數在 16個以下時，大多只錯字首音;超過17個錯誤音以上時，連字尾音也產生錯誤，治療困難，使超過50%以上治癒的人數顯著降低，並使所需之治療次數顯著增加。

This study was designed to investigate the effectiveness of dextrose on cardiovascular endurance. The subjects were nineteen male students enrolled at Loma Linda University in Riverside, California. The subjects were exercised to their maximum while being tested on the treadmill.· Subjects were each tested twice. Thirty minutes before exercising, they ingested one hundred grams of dextrose for one test and ten ounces of sugar-free Kool-aid for the second test. The difference in exhaustion times was then recorded.
The data indicated that dextrose ingestion decreased exhaustion time on the treadmill. Subjects were able to exercise for a longer period of time …

The purpose of this research was to determine if there was a relationship between physical therapy students' personalities and their preferences in clinical education. Associated problems addressed by the research were to determine if there were differences in personality measures between the physical therapy students as well as differences from one another in how they rank ordered a list of clinical education methods and behaviors.

內、外膝眼與陰、陽陵泉是針灸在臨床上常用的穴位，用以治療膝關節疼痛。但是用膝眼治療一段時期以後，常有滑囊炎之發生，而陰、陽陵泉卻甚少有不正常之現象。本實驗之設計即在于探討針刺這些穴位對組織之傷害。將十五隻紐西蘭種白兔分為三組，每組五隻。第一組每日針刺陰、陽陵泉及內、外膝眼各二次。第二組與第一組刺同樣穴位，但每日僅一次。第三組每三日針刺陰、陽陵泉各一次。針刺前，先測定各組白兔之關節圍度，血液中之紅血球、白血球計數，及血色素濃度與紅血球沉降速率，並做膝關節X光攝影。經過針刺15日，30日，60日，120日後，每組分別重複前述各項檢查，並從各組任意犧牲一隻白兔做關節滑囊之切片檢查。比較不同之針刺頻率及部位，對關節及其周圍組織之傷害。結果顯示，關節及其周圍組織所產生之病變，的確與針刺之頻率及時間之長短有關。尤其，針刺之頻率愈高、時間愈長，對組織之傷害程度也就愈大。因此，同一穴位之針刺頻率及時間不宜過多；其針刺間隔最好在一日或二日以上，時間以不超過60日為宜。
