This study develops a fractional-order tumor-immune interaction model incorporating Caputo memory effects, delayed immune activation, and CTLA-4 checkpoint regulation. The model describes the coupled dynamics of tumor cells, CD4^+ T cells, IFN-γ, and CTLA-4, and extends classical integer-order tumor-immune models by accounting for hereditary immune responses and biologically motivated latency effects. Theoretical properties, including positivity, boundedness, equilibrium structure, and fractional-order stability, are examined to establish the biological and mathematical consistency of the model. The delayed fractional system is then investigated computationally by comparing several numerical methods, including finite difference discretization, Daubechies wavelet collocation, Euler wavelet collocation, and a predictor-corrector scheme. …

Mathematical Modelling and Numerical Simulation with Applications
Diphtheria is a highly infectious respiratory and skin disease that poses a significant threat to global public health. In Nigeria, children and adults with low immunity remain at high risk due to recurring annual outbreaks in the last decade, with a death rate of as high as 68.8\%. This paper presents a deterministic compartmental model to evaluate the effectiveness of interventions implemented by the Nigerian government. The model's mathematical and epidemiological validity is established through proofs of non-negativity and boundedness. The basic reproduction number ($R_0$) is derived, and stability analysis confirms that the diphtheria-free equilibrium is locally and globally asymptotically …
Stochastic Analysis Of Epidemic Size And Peak Infection In An Svir Model With Imperfect Vaccine And External Source Of Infection, María Gamboa Pérez
Stochastic Analysis Of Epidemic Size And Peak Infection In An Svir Model With Imperfect Vaccine And External Source Of Infection, María Gamboa Pérez
Mathematical Modelling and Numerical Simulation with Applications
The dynamics of an infectious disease outbreak are studied under a stochastic framework in a closed population where individuals are homogeneously mixed. A vaccination program is implemented in the community prior to the start of the epidemic. The administered vaccine is imperfect, meaning that vaccinated individuals may still become infected upon contact with infected individuals. The mathematical Susceptible-Vaccinated-Infected-Recovered (SVIR) model describing the evolution of the epidemic is formulated as an absorbing, continuous-time, three-dimensional Markov chain with compartments for vaccinated, susceptible, infected and recovered individuals. The aim of this study is to characterize two fundamental epidemiological quantities: the maximum number of …

Tumor–Immune Dynamics With Memory And Time Delay: A Fractional-Order Model With Ctla-4 Regulation, Mutaz Mohammad, Mohyeedden Sweidan, Alexander Trounev, Fathalla Rihan
Mathematical Modelling and Numerical Simulation with Applications
This study develops a fractional-order tumor-immune interaction model incorporating Caputo memory effects, delayed immune activation, and CTLA-4 checkpoint regulation. The model describes the coupled dynamics of tumor cells, CD4$^{+}$ T cells, IFN-$\gamma$, and CTLA-4, and extends classical integer-order tumor-immune models by accounting for hereditary immune responses and biologically motivated latency effects. …

COVID-19 is a highly contagious disease transmitted primarily through human contact. Therefore, understanding population mobility is essential for predicting COVID-19 case trends. In this paper, we propose a novel deep learning approach for forecasting new COVID-19 cases using a neural architecture called Neural Basis Expansion Analysis for Interpretable Time Series (N-BEATS). The N-BEATS model effectively handles long input sequences and large output horizons without information loss or increased computational complexity. We compare the performance of N-BEATS with a state-of-the-art benchmark model, LSTM-Markov, across four major countries: the United States, the United Kingdom, Russia, and Brazil. Three distinct COVID-19 datasets from …

Teachers’ Awareness Of Family Engagement In Multilingual Education, Sedighe Zamani Roodsari
Journal of Multicultural Affairs
This study investigated public school teachers’ awareness of family engagement as a linguistic and cultural resource for multilingual students. Multilinguals are typically described as individuals who can communicate in more than one language, with English not being their native language, and their linguistic choices are influenced by societal norms and systems (Šifrar Kalan et al., 2024; Wei, 2008). Preparing pre-service teachers to enhance opportunities for multilingual students remains a critical need in teacher education programs, as they strive to move beyond monolingual ideologies in their teaching practices (Cárdenas Curiel et al., 2024; Kim & Choi, 2020; Williams & Ewing, 2019). …

Sperm Morphology In The Eastern Narrow-Mouthed Frog, Gastrophryne Carolinensis (Anura: Microhylidae), S. E. Trauth
Journal of the Arkansas Academy of Science
Studies by Scheltinga et al. (2002) and Scheltinga and Jamieson (2003) provide the most comprehensive analysis and only review of sperm morphology in Narrow-Mouthed Frogs (family Microhylidae). Of the 490+ species known to occur in this anuran family (Vitt and Caldwell 2014), only 3 are distributed in the United States (Powell et al. 2016), and 2 of these occur in Arkansas (Trauth et al. 2004). Surprisingly, sperm studies on only 12 microhylid species have been conducted (Scheltinga and Jamieson 2003), and no sperm studies are available on any North American species.

OBJECTIVES: We aimed to (1) quantify changes in discrimination when adding intraoperative data to preoperative data and (2) compare tabular machine learning with feature engineering against a time-aware LSTM-based model.
MATERIALS AND METHODS: Retrospective cohort of 46 204 adults undergoing 57 055 eligible noncardiac surgery in the INSPIRE database. We extracted 38 preoperative and 49 intraoperative variables; acute kidney injury (AKI) was defined by KDIGO serum creatinine criteria and modeled as stage 2/3 postoperative AKI. Models were trained on preoperative-only and combined pre- and intraoperative data. Intraoperative series were summarized using eight statistical features for tabular models or integrated directly …
(Re)Claiming Homeplace: Dance As Embodied Resistance & Healing For Health & Spatial Justice, Preeya G. Kannan
(Re)Claiming Homeplace: Dance As Embodied Resistance & Healing For Health & Spatial Justice, Preeya G. Kannan
University Honors Theses
This thesis argues that dance functions as both an upstream public health intervention and a form of radical spatial resistance; creating healing, agency, and belonging among historically marginalized communities. Drawing on bell hooks' concept of homeplace, Jasbir Puar's assemblage theory, Nancy Krieger's eco-social theory, and Katherine McKittrick's Black geographies, I position the body as both an ecological and political landscape shaped by histories of colonialism, racial capitalism, displacement, and resilience.
Through this community-based participatory research study, Homeplace, I explore dance as a form of social prescription that centers liberation rather than pathology. Movement is often reduced in public health discourse …

Background: The biomechanical performance of bileaflet transcatheter mitral valves (TMVs) depends on complex interactions between leaflet material behavior and stent design. However, the contributions of leaflet materials and constitutive models, stent materials, and stent geometry to valve function and durability remain poorly understood. Methods: A parametric finite element study was conducted using a CAD model of a bileaflet TMV subjected to physiological pressure loading. Five leaflet material models were evaluated: 3 glutaraldehyde-fixed tissues—bovine pericardium (BP; FBP1, FBP2) and porcine pericardium (PP; FPP)—and 2 unfixed tissues—bovine (UBP) and porcine pericardium (UPP). BP was modeled as a linear elastic (FBP1) and Ogden …

Prior to the 1973 Roe v. Wade ruling, access to safe legal abortions was limited and often restricted along racial, economic, and geographic lines. Nearly fifty years later, women’s health policy evolved again following the 2022 Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization decision overturning Roe v. Wade. This court ruling decimated federal protections of abortion. This paper presents the research that the 2022 Dobbs judicial decision may contribute to and exacerbate rape-related PTSD on 1 out of 20 American who are unable to access a safe abortion after a rape-related pregnancy. Pregnant women living in conservative states that have outlawed …

The Internet of Medical Things (IoMT) has transformed health care delivery through medical devices, remote patient monitoring, and real-time clinical decision support. However, the proliferation of IoMT devices introduces security vulnerabilities that put patient safety and data privacy at risk. Intrusion Detection Systems (IDS) have emerged as essential components for protecting IoMT networks from cyberattacks. This article presents a systematic review of IoMT-IDS research, analyzing 53 high-quality papers published between 2020 and 2025, identified through database searches spanning 2016–2025 across IEEE Xplore, Springer, ScienceDirect, and ACM Digital Library. We organize the literature through a comprehensive taxonomy spanning classical machine learning …

The amount of new information transmitted per day can be overwhelming. The data available through Ngram Viewer allows statistical examination to determine the most salient topics, as well as lagged correlation and lagged variance to support possible causal connections between concepts. Using this database, we determined that COVID, crypto, microplastics, and especially social media are important topics of the last few years. We also present results that suggest the development of the internet and the iPhone fueled the prominence of social media, and the access of the iPhone also increased access to the internet.
