Insulin Adsorption To Intravenous Delivery Systems, Michael Joseph Zarcone

Lack of quantitative adsorption data makes it difficult for a physician to determine the actual amount of insulin received by a patient against the amount added to the intravenous infusion system. This project was therefore initiated to determine quantitatively the extent of adsorption that would occur in a clinical setting.

In order to achieve the above aim, varying amounts of carrier insulin containing I-labeled insulin were added to the intravenous infusion delivery system. An Analysis Of Blood Cortisol Levels In Oral Surgery Patients Under Various Levels Of Intravenous Medication, Fred L. Bunch

This study was designed to objectively evaluate each pharmacological component of the Loma Linda intravenous sedation technique. The results were evaluated as a function of stress as measured by plasma cortisol levels.

The study was conducted on fifty patients in groups of ten. Blood samples were taken at set procedure intervals during dental extraction of third molar teeth. A component of the Loma Linda technique was deleted from each of the groups to ascertain its role in sedation and relief of stress.

Results show a trend toward reduction of plasma cortisol levels as the procedure progresses, indicating a measure of …

From the standpoint of physiologists, emphasis has been placed on viewing the chemical nature of the membrane as an operational barrier to the free diffusion of ions. This tends to explain the fact that the ionic composition of the cytoplasm of the animal cell differs from its external fluid environment.

It is well know that where sodium is the principal cation of the extracellular fluid, potassium has such a role inside the cell. Since there appears to be differential distribution of these ions across the cell membrane, this infers a concentration gradient of these ions. This differential distribution is important …

The basic unmedicated formula consists of dextran, sorbitol, Miranol 2 MCA Modified, and water. The major advantages of the film are 1) fast release rates, 2) ease of application to denuded skin without aggravation, and 3) lack of necessity for removal, hence no aggravation. However, it is extremely sensitive to moisture and elevated temperatures which is a major disadvantage. Excessive humidity will solubilize the film or make it too tacky to handle while very low humidity causes the film to lose its flexibility. An original study was undertaken to examine the relationship of clients of Project Jump Street, Inc., a methadone maintenance program, to changes in personality factors as measured by R.B. Cattell's Sixteen Personality Factor Inventory, to compare the national norms of drug addicts/methadone users to the result of the 16 PF of clients of Project Jump Street, Inc., and to determine if significant differences appear among treatment phase I, phase II, and phase III.

Atherosclerotic disease is an almost universal phenomenon and increases in severity and frequency with increasing age. Atherosclerosis may contribute to several disorders including bursting of an artery, blockage of an artery, or induction of arterial clotting. The culmination of these diseases is usually premature since at the time of death the unaffected organs are in reasonably satisfactory condition and could have operated for several more years. Among the many factors which act in concert to produce the disease, serum cholesterol levels play a central role. The use of the alimentary route to supply essential nutrients, either by mouth or nasogastric tube, is by far the best. This route, however, requires an intact and functioning gastrointestinal tract which may be found in certain chronic intestinal diseases, malignant tumors, and cases of gastrointestinal obstruction. In there and certain other clinical situations, parenteral feeding is necessary to provide essential nutrients normally provided in the diet.
