Effects Of Heat Stress On Some Blood Parameters In Broilers, Özge Altan, Ali̇ Altan, Meti̇n Çabuk, Hakan Bayraktar

Turkish Journal of Veterinary & Animal Sciences

The purpose of the present study was to determine the effects of acute heat stress on the proportions of leucocyte components and hematocrit values in broiler chickens. Exposure of broiler chickens to 39±1 °C for 2 h at 44 d of age caused an increase in rectal temperatures, and in heterophil and basophil ratios. The H/L ratio also increased from 0.25 to 0.43. The exposure of the broilers to acute heat stress resulted in decreased monocyte and lymphocyte proportions whereas the proportion of eosinophil and the hematocrit values were not affected. It was concluded that a temperature high enough to …

Effects Of Propylthiouracil-Induced Hypothyroidism On Plasma Lipid Table In Rabbits, İsmai̇l Çeli̇k, Vedat Türkoğlu, Eşref Yeği̇n

Turkish Journal of Veterinary & Animal Sciences

Hypothyroidism is commonly associated with hyperlipidemia. The aim of this study was to investigate the effect of Propylthiouracil-induced hypothyroidism on the plasma lipid profile in rabbits. This investigation was performed on male, white New Zealand ( Oryctolagus cuniculus huxley) rabbits. Twenty rabbits were used; each of the two groups (hypothyroidism and control) consisted of ten animals. Hypothyroidism was induced by oral administration of Propylthiouracil 50 mg.kg -1 for three weeks. The mean values of Triiodothyronine (T 3 ), thyroxine (T 4 ), free T 3 (FT 3 ) and free T 4 (FT 4 ) were 121.7±32.7 ng/d1, 1.81±0.60 µg/dl, …

Effects Of Bac On The Innervation Of Stomach, Berri̇n Gençer Tarakçi Jan 2000

Effects Of Bac On The Innervation Of Stomach, Berri̇n Gençer Tarakçi

Turkish Journal of Veterinary & Animal Sciences

Serosal application of BAC (benzalkonium chloride) to the pyloric antrum of the rat led to a complete loss of the intrinsic innervation of the treated region and also extensive loss of extrinsic sensory projections in the treated and untreated regions of the stomach. However, no changes were seen in the numbers of primary afferents projecting to the stomach, or expression of neuropeptides or neuronal proteins in the neurons. This finding is in marked contrast to the changes reported in sensory cell bodies after sectioning of the sciatic nerve, and suggested that visceral and somatic afferents may respond differently to axonal …

In the trial the effects of inoculation of P. florida, and 2% urea treatment were examined in a 2 by 2 factorial design. The mushroom was inoculated to urea supplemented or unsupplemented wheat straw by solid-state fermentation. Following inoculation, on the 20th, 40th, 60th and 80th days straw samples were taken and analysed for nutrient content and tested for digestibility on sheep using the nylon bag technique. The results showed that Pleurotus …

Evaluation Of Immunogenicity Of Pasterurella Haemolytica Serotypes In Experimental Models, K. Serdar Di̇ker, Mehmet Akan, Osman Kaya Jan 2000

Evaluation Of Immunogenicity Of Pasterurella Haemolytica Serotypes In Experimental Models, K. Serdar Di̇ker, Mehmet Akan, Osman Kaya

Turkish Journal of Veterinary & Animal Sciences

The immunogenicity of Pasteurella haemolyticaserotypes was investigated in an experimental animal model. Rabbits were immunized with bacterins and leukotoxins of selected serotypes of P. haemolytica, and the IgG level and antileukotoxin activities of immune sera were measured. The highest IgG levels against A1, A2, A7 and T4 antigens were detected in rabbits receiving polyvalent combined (bacterin plus leukotoxin) immunogens. Monovalent combined immunogens induced high antibody titers against homologous serotypes, but low titers against heterologous serotypes. Serotype A1 and A7 were found to be more antigenic than A2 and T4. The highest antileukotoxin activity in monovalent groups was detected in A1 and …

Turkish Journal of Veterinary & Animal Sciences

The aim of this study was to determine the quality changes in shrimp stored at 4°C. In the study, whole shrimp samples were placed into straphore plates and stored in a refrigerator (+4°C). Each plate contained 250g samples. Every day the samples were analyzed for sensory properties, Total Volatile Basic Nitrogen (TVB-N) content, Trimethylamine Nitrogene (TMA-N) content, pH value and moisture content. According to findings of sensory, physical and chemical analyses the samples were found to be of "good quality" at day 0, "good quality," at day 1 and "spoiled" after 2 days.

Determination Of Freshness And Chemical Compositon Of Scad ( Trachurus Trachurus, L. 1758) Stored In Refrigerator, Gülgün F. Ünal Şengör, Ufuk Çeli̇k, Sevi̇lsen Akkuş

Turkish Journal of Veterinary & Animal Sciences

This study was carried out to determine the freshness and chemical composition of scad stored at +2C - +4°C. As a result of bacterial activities and chemical changes in fish meat TMAO breaks down to TMA, DMA and FA. In the fish meat the amounts of these compounds are important for the determination of the freshness of fish meat. Breakdown of TMAO into DMA and FA has an effect on the properties of the texture of the fish. Hence we attempted to distinguish the textural characteristics of the stored fish with sensorial analysis. It was detected that the results of …

Using Goal Programming In Rational And Economical Animal Nutrition, İsmet Doğan, Nurhan Doğan, Abdulkadi̇r Akcan

Turkish Journal of Veterinary & Animal Sciences

Animal nutrition is one of the important problems of people involved in animal breeding. It is essential that animals get sufficient and well-balanced nutrition to be healthy. Especially obtaining the necessary food elements from cheaper food sources becomes a major concern when ensuring sufficient and well-balanced nutrition in animal breeding. The Goal Programming Method is an improved method for solving multi-objective problems. In solving these types of problem, it cannot be expected that all the goals can be exactly obtained. The results of multi-objective problem solutions are affected by the decision of the manager or decision maker. Therefore, when there …
