Turkish Journal of Veterinary & Animal Sciences
In this study, 120 British male mice, weighing 35-40 g, and 5 months old were used. Three groups, one control (Group I) and two experimental (Groups II and III), were formed. One experimental group (Group II) received 60 Hz and 5 mT, while the other (Group III) received 90 Hz frequency and 5 mT magnetic flux density efficacy electromagnetic field (EMF), between 900 and 1700. During this period, blood was taken every hour and blood electrolyte levels (Ca^{++}, P^{+++}, Na^{+}, K^{+}, Cl^{-}) were evaluated. In conclusion, in almost all periods and groups only sodium and calcium levels showed a steady …

The effects of 90 Hz and 5 mT EMF on blood Ca^{++}, P^{+++}, Na^{+}, K^{+} and Cl^{-} levels were investigated. For this purpose, 72 Swiss-Albino mice were used. On days 15, 30 and 45, blood was taken from both the experimental and control groups. A statistically significant decrease in the calcium level was only observed on day 30. On days 15 and 45, a statistically significant increase in the phosphorus level was determined. A significant decrease in the level of plasma potassium and chloride levels and a significant increase in sodium levels were seen throughout the experiment (days 15, 30 …

Histopathology Of The Epidermal Papilloma In Cage Cultured Mirror Carp (Cyprinus Carpio) In Eğirdir Lake, Öznur Di̇ler, M. Rüştü Özen
Turkish Journal of Veterinary & Animal Sciences
In this study, the histopathology of enzootic epidermal papillomas in cage cultured mirror carp from the Liman region of Eğirdir Lake was investigated. Macroscopically, the lesions were creamy-white, had a villus-like structure and were localised in the operculum, lateral line and fins. Histopathological studies showed that lesions were the result of hyperplasia of fibrous connective tissue and epidermal tissues. The cells of both tissues were faintly stained by HxE and PAS. Under light microscopy, cytoplasmic vacuolation in epidermal cells in the lesions was prominent. Mucous cells were relatively common and larger than normal. Chemotherapy effectively cured all lesions.

The Possibility Of Using Goose Meat In The Production Of Salami, Ahmet Güner, Yusuf Doğruer, Gürkan Uçar, Hi̇lal Duygu Yörük
Turkish Journal of Veterinary & Animal Sciences
The aim of this investigation was to compare some quality characteristics of goose-meat salami with those of turkey- and chicken-meat salami in order to determine its suitability for consumption and to able to use goose meat for meat product technology. The pH values of experimental samples were highest in the goose-meat salami and lowest in the turkey-meat salami. Moisture rates of samples produced with a mixture of two kinds of poultry meat were lower than those of the others. Salmonella, coliform group bacteria and yeast-mould microorganisms were negligible in the experimental salami samples. Salami samples produced only from goose meat …

Turkish Journal of Veterinary & Animal Sciences
For the first time in Turkey, renal autotransplantation in 7 cats and renal allotransplantation in 7 cats having blood-crossmatch-compatible donors were performed. Immunosuppression was maintained by a prednisolone-cyclosporin combination in the renal allotransplantation group. All cats in the renal allotransplantation group died during the operation or between 3 and 72 h postoperatively. Two cats in the renal autotransplantation group survived approximately 2 years. Hyperacute or acute rejection findings were not encountered according to perioperative observations, laboratory findings or histopathological evaluations of renal allografts. The results of histopathological evaluations of renal allografts indicated acute tubular necrosis (ATN) findings caused by renal …

In this study we examined factors affecting the colonization of campylobacters in chick intestines, colonization times and elicited immune responses. In chicks, infected orally by minimal infective dose _{100} (MID_{100}), colonization in the intestines was observed to reach 100% during the 3-week period following C. jejuni and C. coli inoculation. When the SDS-PAGE protein profiles of the inoculated and isolated strains were examined similarities of 98.3% among C. jejuni strains and 98.5% among C. coli strains were determined. The results obtained from the ELISA tests performed with blood sera in the group infected with C. jejuni and in the control …

Turkish Journal of Veterinary & Animal Sciences
Trifolium pratense contains phytoestrogens and thus it has estrogenic activity. Estrogen has an important role in the development of the reproductive system and the maintanence of its function, and for this reason the effect of Trifolium pratense on sperm parameters and spermatogenesis was examined. Furthermore, its acute toxicity was established. In this study, the motility and morphology of epididymal spermatozoa taken from animals fed diets contains 20% and 40% Trifolium pratense, were affected. Statistically insignificant differences in the diameter of the seminiferous tubule and the number of primary spermatocytes between the control and experimental groups were observed. Intraperitoneal LD_{50} was …
