Specimens of Cirsium eriophorum (L.) Scop. were collected from A2 (A) Bursa, Uludağ. This study confirms the presence of this species, which is given as a doubtful record in the flora of Turkey. A description, photographs, an illustration of the median phyllaries and a distribution map of the species are also given.

A computer-based database for freshwater algae recorded in Turkey has been established. The first phase of the project involved the selecting of data types available for freshwater algal species occurring in Turkey. Such data were obtained from algal studies previously carried out in various freshwater bodies of the country. Data were then standardized in accordance with "The Central Database of Turkish Herbaria". The database program Access was used for entering data, as this program recognises Turkish characters. : One hundred and eighty-one lichen taxa are reported from 88 localities in Gemlik, İznik, Mudanya and Orhangazi districts, north of Bursa, Turkey. Three species are new records for Turkey: Arthonia dispersa (Schrad.) Nyl., Lecanora sambuci (Pers.) Nyl. and Opegrapha herbarum Mont.. Sixty-two species are new records for Bursa province.

In this study, 101 species of microfungi and their hosts, which were found in Ordu Province are described. The research was carried out between 2002 and 2004. Approximately 1465 vascular plant specimens, plants infected with microfungi or not, were collected from the area. At the end of the study of the host plants, 35 families, 114 genera, and 138 host plant species (151 taxa) were established. The 101 species of microfungi were observed on the collected host specimens. The material of this study comprises macrofungi specimens collected from different localities in Bekilli (Denizli) in 1998 and 1999. As a result of field and laboratory studies, 61 taxa belonging to 2 classes (Ascomycetes and Basidiomycetes) and 28 families are reported.

Morphological, Anatomical And Palynological Investigation On Sonchus Erzincanicus Matthews (Asteraceae), Ali̇ Kandemi̇r, Serdal Makbul, Zafer Türkmen, Murat Yilmaz

In this study, Sonchus erzincanicus Matthews (Asteraceae) collected from Erzincan (Turkey) has been investigated by its leaf and stem anatomical features, pollen grain characteristics and ecological features. It is an endemic perennial herbs growing in slightly basic with low organic content soil. Stem cortex seen transparently is composed of parenchyma cells. The leaves are bifacial and have stomata cells that are anomocytic. The pollen type of the species is trizonocolporate. All anatomical studies including transverse sections of the stems and leaves and surface section of leaves are illustrated for the firs time.

The samples of Myxomycetes recorded in this study were collected from Kestel forest (Kadınhanı, Konya) in 2003 and 2004. As a result of field and laboratory studies, 7 families, and 32 taxa belonging to 11 genera were determined. Eight of these were collected in their natural habitat while 24 were isolated in moist chamber culture.

Twenty-three Plantago L. taxa belonging to 2 subgenera (Euplantago Harms and Psyllium (Juss.) Harms) were classified by numerical taxonomic methods. A total of 36 morphological and ecological characters were utilised for numerical taxonomic analysis of Plantago taxa. The classification obtained by numeric taxonomic methods was compared to that obtained by conventional methods. In general, both of the classifications agreed well, except for the section Hymenopsyllium Pilger being clustered under the subgenus Psyllium contrary to the conventional classification.

This paper describes a floristic study of Bitlis river basin. The research was carried out from 2001 and 2003 to 2150 vascular plant specimens were collected. After the identification of the specimens, the flora was determined to include 925 taxa (at specific and infraspecific ranks) belonging to 770 species, 386 genera and 85 families. One hundred and seventy-nine taxa were defined as new records for the B9 square. The endemism rate of the area is 6.8% based on 63 taxa. Seasonal variations in the species composition of the benthic algae of Demirdöven Dam Reservoir were investigated in 2000 and 2001. The benthic algal flora consisted of 174 taxa belonging to the Bacillariophyta, Chlorophyta, Cyanophyta and Euglenophyta. In general, Bacillariophyta were dominant in terms of species number and abundance during the study period. The ranges of temporal distribution of the benthic algal composition and dominant species differed from each other at all stations.

Post-Fire Dynamics Of Cistus Spp. In A Pinus Brutia Forest, Çağatay Tavşanoğlu, Behzat Gürkan

The population dynamics of 2 species of Cistus L. (C. salviifolius L. and C. creticus L.) were studied along a post-fire successional gradient in Pinus brutia Ten. forests in Marmaris National Park, Turkey. The population density of Cistus spp. was 16 individual m^{-2} at the end of the first year after fire and then decreased exponentially (r^2 = 0.926, P < 0.001) the second year after fire to later successional stages. Total projected foliage cover of Cistus spp. was 26% by the end of the first year after fire, it increased to approximately 38% during the second year after fire and decreased linearly (r^2 = 0.872, P < 0.01) beyond this time. Rates of establishment of Cistus spp. were high in the first year after fire but were low in subsequent years and most of the Cistus plants flowered during the second year after fire. There was a significant positive relationship between the density of new seedlings of Cistus and cover of Pinus brutia trees in the sixth year after fire (r^2 = 0.242, P = 0.002). Seed yield of Cistus was reduced due to predation of seed capsules by Bruchid insects. Both species of Cistus were shown to be typical post-fire colonisers in terms of timing of recruitment and post-fire population dynamics. The major factors responsible for the decrease in density of seedlings of C. salviifolius and C. creticus are likely to be the mortality of young seedlings due to summer drought and competition among seedlings and with P. brutia trees. It is suggested here that the species considered have fire-dependent establishment behaviour and an increase in population is restricted to early post-disturbance in P. brutia forests in Turkey, as in other Mediterranean regions.

A check-list of the genus Colchicum L. in the Flora Turkey is presented, with 36 taxa. A list of taxonomical changes that have occurred since the publication of the Flora of Turkey suppl. II is given. Twenty-seven of them are autumn-flowering species (28 taxa), whereas 8 of them are early-spring species. Thirty-five species (36 taxa) are presented, of which 15 are endemic to Turkey.

This research details the flora of Erciyes Dağı, situated in the province of Kayseri in Central Anatolia, entirely within the Irano-Turanian phytogeographic region. A total of 2554 plant specimens were collected from the research area between 1996 and 2002. An evaluation of these specimens revealed 89 families, 433 genera and 1170 taxa (1116 species, 31 subspecies and 23 varieties). Of the 1170 taxa, 11 are pteridophytes, 12 gymnosperms and 1147 angiosperms (979 dicotyledons and 168 monocotyledons). Of these taxa, 36 are cultivars. Macrofungi specimens were collected from Gölbaşı (Adıyaman) district in 2000-2003. As a result of field and laboratory studies, 77 taxa belonging to 22 families in the classes Ascomycetes and Basidiomycetes were identified. Five of them, Cyathus stercoreus (Schw.) de Toni, Entoloma rusticoides (Gill.) Noordel., Pluteus dietrichii Bres., Coprinus dilectus Fr. and Panaeolus guttulatus Bres., are new records for Turkey.

The unidentified lichen specimens collected about 50 years ago and stored in the herbarium of the Faculty of Science, the University of İstanbul (ISTF) were examined taxonomically and identified. This lichen collection includes 67 species, some of which are rare and interesting for the collection sites. Most of the samples are from İstanbul and its surroundings, but some are from several provinces in Anatolia.

This study serves as a checklist of the myxomycetes of Trabzon and Giresun provinces, Turkey. Sixty-one myxomycete were identified, 20 of which were collected in the field and 41 grown in moist chamber culture. The moss specimens collected from Değirmenboğazı and its environment, which were chosen as the research area, were evaluated. A total of 74 taxa belonging to 45 genera and 19 families were identified. Of these, 16 taxa are new records for the B6 grid square in the system adopted by Henderson.

This paper describes a floristic study on Kirmir valley, between Güdül and Yeşilöz district, in Ankara province. The study was carried out during 2000-2003 and 1040 vascular plant specimens were collected. Four hundred and forty-eight wild taxa belonging to 266 genera and 74 families were determined. Furthermore, as for cultivated plants, 45 taxa were determined. The total number of wild and cultivated plant species is 493. The genus Crataegus L. has approximately 200 species worldwide. However, the number of the species is increased to 1200 species by some taxonomists. Traditionally, the genus is placed in the subfamily Maloideae and it is closely related to the genera Pyracantha M.Roem., Mespilus L. and Hesperomeles Lindl. The latest phylogenetic analysis of the genus shows that it is closest to the genus Osteomeles Lind. Crataegus is divided into 40 sections by various taxonomists.
