Three New Records For Myxomycetes Of Turkey, Dursun Yağiz, Ahmet Afyon

This study was conducted to identify the biodiversity of Myxomycetes growing in Derebucak (Konya) and Akseki (Antalya) districts. The specimens have been collected periodically during field trips in 2002 and 2004. While 2 samples were treated with the moist chamber cultures method in the laboratory, 1 taxon was determined naturally. The samples grown were observed using stereo and light microscopes. The 3 new records for the Myxomycetes in Turkey are as follows: Cribraria languescens Rex, Arcyodes incarnata (Alb. & Schwein.) O.F.Cook., and Macbrideola macrospora (Nann.-Bremek.) Ing.

Pollen morphology of the Turkish Romulea Maratti taxa (Iridaceae) was examined using light and scanning electron microscopy. The taxa are similar in some aspects, such as pollen size and spinulate-microperforate exine sculpturing. Most taxa are monosulcate; however, in 2 taxa, R. bulbocodium (L.) Seb. & Mauri var. crocea (Boiss & Heldr.) Baker and var. leichtliniana (Heldr. ex Hal.) Bég., growing sporadically in south-western Turkey, the existence of pollen type variability (monosulcate, disulcate, trisulcate, trisynsulcate, tetrasulcate, penta-aperturate (with longer and shorter sulci), and monoporate) from single pollen sacs was recorded for the first time. Specimens of macrofungi were collected from localities on Honaz Mountain (Denizli) in 2005 and 2006, particularly during autumn and spring. Field and laboratory studies revealed a total of 109 taxa belonging to 64 genera, 32 families and 2 classes. Six taxa belong to Ascomycetes and 103 to Basidiomycetes.

This paper describes a floristic study of Akçadağ. The research was carried out between 2000 and 2002. During the study period, 2650 vascular plant specimens were collected. After the identification of the specimens, the flora was determined to include 891 taxa (at specific and intraspecific ranks) belonging to 738 species, 328 genera, and 70 families. The distribution of Campanula radula Fisch. in Turkey is recorded for the first time. Thirty-five taxa were defined as new records for the B9 square. A new late flowering, reddish brown Iris L. species from the subgenus Scorpiris Spach, Iris nezahatiae Güner & H.Duman, is described and illustrated from north-east Turkey. Its distinguishing characters, affinities, and ecology are discussed and its threat category is assessed as 'Critically endangered (CR)'.

The morphological and anatomical characteristics of Anchusa leptophylla Roemer & Schultes subsp. leptophylla and A. leptophylla subsp. incana (Ledep) Chamb. (Boraginaceae), which are distributed in the Black Sea region, were investigated. The morphological features of various organs of the plant such as the stem, flower, and fruit are given in detail. Features related to characteristics of the leaf and calyx were found to be important in separating the subtaxa morphologically. The shape of leaves is usually linear-lanceolate in A. leptophylla subsp. incana, while it is linear in subsp. leptophylla. In anatomical studies, cross-sections of the root, stem, and leaf parts, …

Lenzitopsis oxycedri Malençon & Bertault was collected on a living branch of Juniperus foetidissima Willd. from Thermessos national park, Antalya, situated in the southern Mediterranean part of Turkey. This very rare species belongs to a monotypic genus of Thelephoraceae and was previously only known from Morocco, Spain, and Italy. This fungus causes white rot in juniper wood.

Several macrofungi specimens were collected during field studies in Kayseri province. After field and laboratory studies, 6 species belonging to 6 families were identified as new records for Turkey. These species are Clitocybe catinus (Fr.) Quél., Conocybe appendiculata J.E.Lange & Kühner, Coprinus macrocephalus (Berk.) Berk., Guepinia helvelloides (DC.) Fr., Psathyrella leucotephra (Berk. & Broome) P.D.Orton, and Russula olivaceoviolascens Gillet.

A new variety from Turkey is described and illustrated: Juniperus oxycedrus L. subsp. oxycedrus var. spilinanus Yalt., Eliçin & Terzioğlu. This variety grows in forest clearings of Pinus brutia Ten. and P. nigra J.F.Arnold subsp. nigra var. caramanica (Loudon) Rehder, and on stony slopes (800-1400 m) in Spildağı National Park, Manisa (B1) in West Anatolia. Its diagnostic morphological characters are discussed.

Field studies were carried out to determine the vascular flora of the Gölcük area (Bolu) during 1997-1998. At the end of the evaluation of the identification of the collected specimens and the results of previous studies, 80 families, 277 genera, 461 species and 475 taxa in total were determined. The rates of species belonging to certain phytogegraphical regions are as follows: the Euro-Siberians 30.8% (142 spp.), the Irano-Turanians 1.5% (7 spp.), the Mediterraneans 5.2% (24 spp.), and phytogeographically unknown 58.4% (269 spp.). The number of endemic taxa found in the research area is 16; thus the endemism rate is 3.5%. …

The results of the archaeobotanical examination of 2 sites, namely Mezraa Höyük and Gre Virike, on the Euphrates in the Karkamış (Carchemish) area, near Birecik (Şanlıurfa) in south-east Turkey are given. The cultural levels that yielded carbonised plant remains date from the Early Bronze Age (3000-2000 BC), Middle Bronze Age (2000-1500 BC) and Medieval period (11^{th} - 13^{th} centuries AD). The plant assortment in the Bronze Age did not differ essentially from that during the Medieval period. The major crop plant of the farmers was Hordeum L. (barley, hulled). Herein, macrofungi specimens that were collected from different locations in Karaman province, Turkey between 1999 and 2001 are reported. As a result of field and laboratory studies, 202 taxa belonging to 2 classes and 41 families were identified. Of them, 11 taxa belonged to Ascomycetes and 191 to Basidiomycetes. The most common families were Tricholomataceae, with 36 species; Bolbitiaceae, with 16 species; Agaricaceae and Cortinariaceae, with 15 species each; Coprinaceae, with 13 species; and Hymenochaetaceae, with 12 species.

Some macrofungi specimens were collected from Gümüşhane province between 2001 and 2003. As a result of field and laboratory studies, 105 taxa belonging to 2 classes and 24 families were identified. These taxa are presented in a list. Of the 105 taxa, 14 are new records for the mycoflora of Turkey.

Herein, 146 microfungi species and their hosts recorded in Kahramanmaraş province are given with their localities. The research was carried out between 2000 and 2004. Approximately 1821 vascular plant specimens infected and uninfected with microfungi were collected from the area. In total, 146 microfungi species were identified on the collected host specimens. These species belong to 36 genera and 17 families; 43 species belong to Ascomycota, 94 to Basidiomycota, 1 to Oomycota, and 8 to Mitosporic Fungi (Deuteromycota). Seventy-three taxa belonging to 27 genera are reported from Şirvan Mountain (Kayseri). All of these taxa are new records for the study area. Of these, 31 taxa are reported for the first time from the province of Kayseri, and 3 taxa, Caloplaca epiphyta Lynge, Lecanora hagenii (Ach.) Ach. var. fallax Hepp and Sarcogyne regularis Körb. var. platycarpoides (Anzi) N.S.Golubk., are new records for Turkey.

An interesting chasmophytic Teucrium specimen was collected from Siirt, SE Turkey. It was identified according to the Flora of Turkey as T. paederotoides but with some doubt about certain characters. It was identified as T. chasmophyticum without any doubt from Flora Iranica. Because of some indistinct points between these 2 taxa, the recently described taxon was re-evaluated. The type specimen of the taxon was examined at W herbarium and its revised description is given here. A photograph of the type specimen and the Turkish material taken from the field is supplied along with a map.

Macrofungi specimens were collected from Andırın (Kahramanmaraş) district in 1998-2003. As a result of field and laboratory studies, 131 taxa belonging to 35 families in Ascomycetes and Basidiomycetes were identified. Six of them, Hemimycena pithya (Fr.) Dörfelt, Macrocystidia cucumis (Pers.) Joss., Mycena maculata P.Karst., Tricholoma magnivelare (Peck) Redhead (Tricholomataceae), Entoloma lepidissimum (Svrcek) Noordel. (Entolomataceae) and Pluteus pouzarianus Singer var. albus Bonnard (Pluteaceae), are new records for Turkey.

Natural sources used as folk medicines in Merzifon were investigated in this study. It was determined that 35 plant and 4 animal species together with 3 animal and 1 inorganic sources are being used as various preparations of folk medicines in Merzifon area. All the collected medicinal plants were identified and voucher specimens were deposited in the Herbarium of Hacettepe University, Faculty of Pharmacy (HUEF). Local names, part(s) used, methods of preparation and traditional usages of folk medicines are given in this paper.
